    Thank you for this video! The short and rigid extender was unappealing to me, so I found a 6.6 FT E26 socket extender on Amazon that uses a cord instead of a metal conduit and hung my LED from the ceiling. Now I can see in the garage when the door opens! Thank you once again for sharing your innovative improvement.

    Garage door tech here. You will have interference issues because of the radio frequency. This can also damage your circuit board and any tech worth their salt, will know this is the damage cause. That makes you have NO warranty and are back out the money of a new opener.

    As a garage installer, by profession, I must put out there that putting LED lights by your garage opener can sometimes interfere with the communication with your wireless remotes both in your vehicle and the exterior keypads. It is a great idea and may not effect ALL openers, but I personally have encountered the issue where the customer installed LED lights and immediately good remotes barely work outside of the garage. But KUDOS on the ingenuity.

    • @crossbow3539
      @crossbow3539 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Matthew Craig I was gonna say the same thing but now I don’t have to. I put a higher lumen led bulb in my opener and the door wouldn’t close when I used the remote. I thought oh no I guess my opener went bad. Then thought well the problem didn’t start until I changed the bulbs so put the old bulb back in and was glad I didn’t need a new opener. Now they make leds specifically for openers so I put a couple of those in and now no problem.

    • @Kitearmy
      @Kitearmy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@crossbow3539 thanks all - my range on my opener is about 500feet - maybe because the bulb is outside of the unit

      I just installed new genie openers to replace ~4 year old chamberlains with myQ that refused to work with feit led bulbs.

      @@Kitearmy It's a flaw in the Liftmaster boards, it causes an excessive power draw through a resistor near the receiver part of the board which reduces the range it can pickup a remote from.

    Moment I started watching this I thought, one of those adapters that screws into lightbulb socket, with an outlet plug. Then get one (or more) of those cheap, ceramic wall/ceiling mount hardwire lightbulb sockets.
    Then just take an old extension cord or one of those things you can useto replace the plug on an appliance if it breaks.
    Now you can mount the light where you want and it'll stay put.

    Well what I did was use a screw in socket for the garage door opener that takes a regular 110 plug. I used a long extention cord reaching to the back of the garage then mounted 2 electrical work boxes with light fixtures. The bulbs were 60 watt (DAYLIGHT) LED's. So now when backing in the vehicle it's easier to see at night. The extention cord was good enough as I was going to use 14 guage romex but like I said, the heavy duty extention cord worked just fine.

    Do some experimenting with LED bulbs because they can screw up the signal of your garage door opener and sometimes it won't work when the lights are on. I had a problem with mine after installing LED bulbs in the opener. I had no range from the automotive button. I had to be right in front of the garage for the opener to work. Before with the old bulbs in the opener, the signal work work coming up the driveway.

I had bought one of these led lights when you could only get them online, for my former garage ,and it lit up that garage great. That garage had finished walls , ceiling, and was painted. My current 50 year old garage , is more dungeon like and need some work.Warning on these fixtures, don’t look towards the light before you turn it on. I'm curious if this held up. My garage door opener says it will support up to a 100W bulb. The extender you used supports up to a 100W bulb. I currently have a similar problem, except the fixture is too close to the chain. I have a 4 panel bulb in there right now that is 1000W equivalent and pulls 145W. I was looking for a solution when I cam upon your video. I'm currently on the search for a similar gooseneck that can support a higher wattage.

    2 questions.... the link to the led light is for a 3 light not a 4 as you used.
    The gooseneck is rated for 100w, but you said your led light is 120 watts.

    • @jeffo1108
      @jeffo1108 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It doesn't draw 120w, the light output is equivalent to a 120w incadessant bulb. LEDs draw a fraction of that.

    • @christopherking365

      I have a genie like the one shown in the video and there is a wall mounted pad available that allows you to turn on the light, lock the whole thing down, as well as open the garage door too. If you have a different brand, a wall switch similar to this may be available.

    Be careful when choosing these LED lights in your garage.
    I installed two of them in my garage and loved how bright they where.
    But keep in mind that some of these LED lights will emit a signal and drastically reduce your transmitter range due to interference.
    And that’s exactly what happened to mine.

    I accidentally posted under someone else’s comment once but I copy and pasted my response and reposted it. It actually only effects the newer LiftMaster operators roughly 2012 and newer because of the added rolling code frequency that rolls to a more narrow frequency. Where the problem occurs is an led bulb sends off a small frequency back into the wire when hooked directly to the operator. That’s why it doesn’t effect a genie because the frequency is more common 1 in a million not 1 in a billion. I also am not understanding the scam part I’m a local business owner and don’t charge people ever for this problem. I can usually explain it over the phone for free but even when I show up and that’s the problem I take the bulb out and leave my card because every garage door breaks at some point. I install LiftMaster and right on the manual and the operator it says do not use an led bulb it will affect the remote controls range. So much for my scam because I’m not making any money on this at all I was just trying to inform you of the fact. Fact is if I had your operator I would probably do the same thing.

    • @Kitearmy
      @Kitearmy  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I wonder if this actually reduces that problem because it is not installed in the unit
