I was 16 when this awesome song was #1 in our charts..I was amazed by the music and Annie's beautifull angel voice..Miss Lennox is for sure Top -10 female singer in the world..
It is worth remembering that when this song was released in UK many of the listeners would have been familiar with the 60s and early 70s Public Service Announcements warning children about the dangers of getting into cars with strangers.
They are driving on the left, which should give an indication that it isn’t USA. They filmed it in London, the apartment Annie goes into is in Clifton Gardens, North West London.
Yes! At the least you have to watch the videos for Beethoven- I Love to Listen to and then I Need a Man, where the broken suburban mom in her new guise as a slutty drag queen goes on a tear. So good!!! A great little tableau.
Derek, if you listen very close she is singing "I want you something go special" and not circumcision as you thought. I bought the 7 single of this song in the 80,s. This song was a chart topping hit the world over and we dance to this song in the disco,s. The 80,s was flooded with the most and best chart topping hits than any other decade.
Here are the actual lyrics from "Love Is A Stranger" the often mis heard line is actually" And I want you so It's an obsession ...." Love is a stranger In an open car To tempt you in And drive you far away And I want you And I want you And I want you so It's an obsession Love is a danger Of a different kind To take you away And leave you far behind And love love love Is a dangerous drug You have to receive it And you still can't Get enough of the stuff It's savage and it's cruel And it shines like destruction Comes in like the flood And it seems like religion It's noble and it's brutal It distorts and deranges And it wrenches you up And you're left like a zombie And I want you And I want you And I want you so It's an obsession…
Just for the nerds: Synth bass - Roland SH101 and a few other sounds on - EDP WASP The grunting was done by a chef that worked in a restaurant they met near by. Drums - Movement drum machine MK1
'You can lead a horticulture but you can't make her think' (Dorothy Parker). The song and video show the obsessive nature of love (love, love, love, it's a dangerous drug) and the constant pursuit of love distorts and deranges. It's an all time classic and I love it.
This song always reminded me of Donna Summer's "Lucky" from the 1979 album Bad Girls. The whole last side of that lp has a medley of 'Our Love", "Lucky" and "Sunset People". It will fill your synth's habit. Back in the day, it was not unusual for it to be played in its entirety in the clubs.
Always thrilled to have a Eurythmics or a Annie Lennox reaction ! Hope you will react to "Would I lie to you" ! This song is everything ! Pure pop/rock gem !
This is my favorite song off the Sweet Dreams album, and I love the video. She's so intense and her voice is amazing. I love the grunting too... it's very ominous. Love this song. I would second Would I Lie to You. Very different style, but also amazing.
Hitting all my favorite Electronic 80's & 90's bands!! Eurythmics is in my top 5 of all time!! Annie's voice is so distinct & angelic!! Watching artists/bands out of their original release dates over the years makes it harder to understand their progressions over the years. JMO, but it's all good! Thanks Dereck!
Hi ! Brilliant, Gee, Thanks ! Me (I'm Mike, nice to meet) was in shock for two years since I saw it on MTV, until my Paps brought me a Vinyl album. I binged the album and this track , wore the copy and almost the Turntabe belt and stylus, This happened back in 1982. I was 10 YO. Coming back sweet Memories !
This was the first song on the album. It HOOKED me BIG TIME in the day. "Circumsision", videos "ok". Please sir! I WISH artists had the talent to put something like this together now.
That looks like central London, Belgravia or Bayswater - the road markings and buildings. It's not L.A. as far as I understand it. The lyrics "It's an obsession." Her diction is really good, she sings so clearly and annunciates perfectly- I can't believe you misheard it.
Love is a stranger comes before Sweet Dreams. The voice in the background is Dave Stewart's and he's obviously recreating a sexual encounter. Indeed, Eurythmics are the gods of 80s New Wave.
Freshman year of college: I'm head over heels in love with a guy named Jordan. He was a funny guy; we laughed that he thought the lyrics were "I want to suck your circumcision." My first time in a gay bar, this song came on. Jordan and I were mouthing the wrong lyrics to each other, when Jordan leaned in and kissed me for the first time. Love that you're finding the music of my youth.
As a synth player myself and understanding the technical aspects and limitations of early 80s equipment, the sound, arrangement and production is unbelievable. Still Sounds better today than the majority of stuff released today. Has a warm human element to its quality if you know what I mean…
It really was amazing what Synth players were able to do back in the 80s and a lot of that had to do with experimentation. There is an Instrumental version of this song on here and you can hear how complex the layers of the Synth arrangement is.
you're getting that retro New Wave vibe because it was released in 1983. though back then their sound was the digital future. I think you'd really like their single, Who's That Girl.
If you want to see Annie Lennox wigging it out, check out her Beethoven (I love to listen to) video. It’s amazingly bizarre. Follow that up with the sequel video... I need a man.
As well as the songs what I love most about them is the incredibly strong image. Annie is so enigmatic and visually stunning in all their videos. So much charisma.
One of my favourite songs of all time. Period. This was controversial when it first aired. It was a very transphobic/homophobic time so networks freaked out when she pulled the wig off: they thought it was a man in drag or a “transvestite”. This video and song will be with me forever ❤️
Fun fact about Annie; she was classically trained and her teachers were pushing her to be a opera singer, but she ended up wanting to go into rock/pop. You should look up her post Eurythmics work, like Little Bird, Walking on Broken Glass, or Dark Road.
The "Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This"" album was Eurythmics' second album. It was a musical departure for the duo, away from their Pop-Rock sound of their first album, and their previous work as part of The Tourists. It had a Techno-Pop sound, influenced by the German Techno-Pop group, Kraftwerk. This album also had a Soul feeling in its songs. For example, Eurythmics recorded a cover of the Sam And Dave song, "Wrap It Up" for the album. This Soul/Techno-Pop musical blend gave Eurythmics a unique sound, unlike any other band (except perhaps the British Techno-Pop duo, Yaz, which broke up a year before "Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This)" was released) in the music industry at that time.
"Love Is A Stranger" Love is a stranger In an open car To tempt you in And drive you far away And I want you And I want you And I want you so It's an obsession Love is a danger Of a different kind To take you away And leave you far behind And love love love Is a dangerous drug You have to receive it And you still can't Get enough of the stuff It's savage and it's cruel And it shines like destruction Comes in like the flood And it seems like religion It's noble and it's brutal It distorts and deranges And it wrenches you up And you're left like a zombie And I want you And I want you And I want you so It's an obsession It's guilt edged Glamorous and sleek by design You know it's jealous by nature False and unkind It's hard and restrained And it's totally cool It touches and it teases As you stumble in the debris And I want you And I want you And I want you so It's an obsession
This single was released before Sweet Dreams. It's from 1982, whereas Sweet Dreams (the single) was released in 83. But both are from the Sweet Dreams (album) which was released in 82.
I watched a program on this song and im pretty sure they said it was recorded on a 4 track machine which is pretty impressive for the sound arrangement
Thank you very much for that. It's a pity that the song was so shortened. The next song by Annie Lennox could be *No more i love you's* . Would you like, I think.
If you are freaking about the synths in this song, listen to the entire album. It's one of the 80s masteropieces. Some stunning songs on it, one of those albums where evrey song could have been released on the radio.
Annie and Dave were in a band called the Tourists before forming the Eurythmics. If you listen to some of those songs you can see the progression to the synth sound of the early Eurythmics songs.
6:23 Yeah, I think you're the only person who has thought this. "And I want you so, it's an obsession"!! Might be a reflection on your innermost thoughts!! Hahahahaha! Jeez! Love the reaction (otherwise). xxooxx
The transvestite angle is actually understandable, as Drag Queens would often punctuate their shows with the reveal of pulling their wig off. Also, the grunting sounds were performed by a friend of theirs who was a baker from Sweden.
I absolutely appreciate your Reactions to 80s music 🎶...it reminds me of my oldest daughter. She knows them ALL. I guess I blasted them all during her childhood. You may like Roxette , Queens’ “Coming Soon” or the Cars “ You Might Think”... I absolutely loved Bryan Adams “When a man loves a woman”. In the early 80’s ..punk rock music was very popular in my high school days. Thanks for posting this and sharing.
Keep up the great work buddy. Just subscribed from the UK. Great to see more younger people appreciating the fantastic decade that was the 80s. This is such a great song. Their music is so timeless really.
Finally someone reacted to this song.Thank you for doing it. It's their best
I loved this song when it came out in the early 80s, love it even more today. Thanks for sharing, Dereck!
Love love love. . . . Actually my favorite Eurythmics song. Even above the 'hits' though I love those too.
Same. It has a 'feel' thier other songs just don't get. Maybe I just like dark and slightly creepy.
Let’s address the elephant in the room… She looks bloody amazing in this video
You have to do a videoreaction of Don’t ask me why. Such a stunning woman in that video in 1989. A beautiful song 👍🏻👌🏻
Gotta watch and listen to "Missionary Man" and "There Must Be an Angel (Playing with My Heart).
It is worth remembering that when this song was released in UK many of the listeners would have been familiar with the 60s and early 70s Public Service Announcements warning children about the dangers of getting into cars with strangers.
Love is a Stranger came before Sweet Dreams.
Who's That Girl is an essential one. Sex Crime and Julia are songs done for the film 1984, also great.
No ,after
@@Urfinchannel Originally released in November 1982
Yep who's that girl 😍👍
They are driving on the left, which should give an indication that it isn’t USA. They filmed it in London, the apartment Annie goes into is in Clifton Gardens, North West London.
I’m never going to be able to listen to this song again now without thinking of those misheard lyrics
😂😂😂
I'm just denying that one access to my brain!!
🤣👍
I saw your comment before I heard that part of the video lmaooooo....I feel the same now.
Beethoven - I Love to Listen to.. brings back the blonde wig alter ego. Great video.
remember the Heaven video in a convertible in So Cal?
One of the best videos of all time.
If he listens to anything from Savage he's gotta watch the entire long form video of the album
Yes! At the least you have to watch the videos for Beethoven- I Love to Listen to and then I Need a Man, where the broken suburban mom in her new guise as a slutty drag queen goes on a tear. So good!!! A great little tableau.
"Beethoven" is an amazing video and song, even "You have placed a chill in my heart".
She doesn’t sing that at all - she sings: “I want you so, it's an obsession”
One of my FAVORITE Eurythmics songs!! So happy you reacted to it and glad you loved it
This music sounds more futuristic now than it did in the 80s. That's how great the 80s were
Here are the actual lyrics from "Love Is A Stranger" the often mis heard line is actually" And I want you so
It's an obsession
...."
Love is a stranger
In an open car
To tempt you in
And drive you far away
And I want you
And I want you
And I want you so
It's an obsession
Love is a danger
Of a different kind
To take you away
And leave you far behind
And love love love
Is a dangerous drug
You have to receive it
And you still can't
Get enough of the stuff
It's savage and it's cruel
And it shines like destruction
Comes in like the flood
And it seems like religion
It's noble and it's brutal
It distorts and deranges
And it wrenches you up
And you're left like a zombie
And I want you
And I want you
And I want you so
It's an obsession…
Just for the nerds:
Synth bass - Roland SH101 and a few other sounds on - EDP WASP
The grunting was done by a chef that worked in a restaurant they met near by.
Drums - Movement drum machine MK1
Suzuki Omnichord for the win on this track, too! Dave Stewart is amazing.
It's Alright (Baby's Comin' Back)
So Eurythmics - So Annie - So 80's - SO NEW WAVE !
Eurythmics - Would I lie to you - I need a man - Thorn in my side - It must be an Angel
Why does the music video keep jumping forward? Is that some copyright thing going on??
I nought the same thing with the jumping forward... it must be some sort of copyright issue
“I’m loving the synths” needs to b on your merch
I'm looking into this 😉
'You can lead a horticulture but you can't make her think' (Dorothy Parker). The song and video show the obsessive nature of love (love, love, love, it's a dangerous drug) and the constant pursuit of love distorts and deranges. It's an all time classic and I love it.
I still love her. Eurythmics are still iconic
Phenomenal Annie and David. 🙏❤️👌🌷🥂💋
I ADORE this song. Thank you!
OMG, I'll never unhear "I want you to have a circumcision" when I hear this song now. XD
Fab choice..... "Don't ask me why" would be another good eurythmics option
Totally, I have such a crush on the drummer in that video. 😍
She is stunningly gorgeous, sexiest eyes, I mean Joan Jett sexy eyes.....pure, raw, emotional, what a voice, this one is my absolute favorite.
Always thrilled to have a Eurythmics or a Annie Lennox reaction ! Hope you will react to "Would I lie to you" ! This song is everything ! Pure pop/rock gem !

THANK YOU FOR REACTING TO THIS VIDEO!
"There must be an angel" is a classic from Eurythmics, or Annie Lennox's solo "Walking On Broken Glass" is fab.
Agree
Walking on broken glass is wonderful
That's when I discovered Annie Lennox again after Eurythmics 😊
This song holds up so well! It's so great in all ways!
Look up the definition for "eurythmics."
This was the first song on the album. It HOOKED me BIG TIME in the day. "Circumsision", videos "ok". Please sir! I WISH artists had the talent to put something like this together now.
We love her and we love you! Kisses from South Africa!
Ann Lennox is a great artist even better live
That looks like central London, Belgravia or Bayswater - the road markings and buildings. It's not L.A. as far as I understand it.
The lyrics "It's an obsession." Her diction is really good, she sings so clearly and annunciates perfectly- I can't believe you misheard it.
this guy is soo young & has alot of catching up to do !
Thank God I grew up with music like this!
Her voice is silk. She uses lower registers to carry here punch.
Love this song
😂😂😂😂
And I want you so
It's an OBSESSION
Know will never here this song again without the word circumcision! It is know unheard! Thanks Derek!
You might also want to check out there videos MISSIONARY MAN and WOULD I LIE TO YOU . Those are classics especially WOULD I LIE TO YOU .
Yes! Would I Lie to You is such a great song
Love is a stranger comes before Sweet Dreams. The voice in the background is Dave Stewart's and he's obviously recreating a sexual encounter. Indeed, Eurythmics are the gods of 80s New Wave.
How can you not have heard this til now???
Dave Stewart, musically gifted
I will never be able to play this song again without thinking Annie is telling you to get a circumcision!! Too funny!!
Great reaction and your best yet mishearing of lyrics! x
That interpretation of the lyrics was hilarious... thanks for making me laugh Dereck.
You cracked me up with 'The Circumcision' comment!
This song has NOTHING to do with circumcision!😂
you're getting that retro New Wave vibe because it was released in 1983. though back then their sound was the digital future. I think you'd really like their single, Who's That Girl.

Stop projecting Dereck
Take a shot every time Dereck says "Guys." 🤣
As well as the songs what I love most about them is the incredibly strong image. Annie is so enigmatic and visually stunning in all their videos. So much charisma.
This is my favorite Eurythmics song
That 'circumcision' thing was really cute and funny. ;-)
I'd suggest "Sexcrime" and "Don't Ask Me Why" next. Two of my absolute Eurythmics favorites.
Yeah it's 80's blissful synth pop...
better than the synth music of today.
And the grunting makes the track.
One of my favourite songs of all time. Period. This was controversial when it first aired. It was a very transphobic/homophobic time so networks freaked out when she pulled the wig off: they thought it was a man in drag or a “transvestite”. This video and song will be with me forever ❤️
You got that new wave vibe cuz it’s a new wave band. 💁🏼♂️💜
Awesome talent. "Its alright babys coming back" is one of the best

I think that you have an "obsession" with "circumcision" ;o)
One of my favorite songs of all time.. 80s videos were always hit or miss, but the music is undeniable.
welcome to the 80;s my son .....
"Love Is A Stranger"
Love is a stranger
In an open car
To tempt you in
And drive you far away
And I want you
And I want you
And I want you so
It's an obsession
Love is a danger
Of a different kind
To take you away
And leave you far behind
And love love love
Is a dangerous drug
You have to receive it
And you still can't
Get enough of the stuff
It's savage and it's cruel
And it shines like destruction
Comes in like the flood
And it seems like religion
It's noble and it's brutal
It distorts and deranges
And it wrenches you up
And you're left like a zombie
And I want you
And I want you
And I want you so
It's an obsession
It's guilt edged
Glamorous and sleek by design
You know it's jealous by nature
False and unkind
It's hard and restrained
And it's totally cool
It touches and it teases
As you stumble in the debris
And I want you
And I want you
And I want you so
It's an obsession
This single was released before Sweet Dreams. It's from 1982, whereas Sweet Dreams (the single) was released in 83. But both are from the Sweet Dreams (album) which was released in 82.
Eurythmics suggestions:
•Don't Ask Me Why
•Sexcrime (1984)
Annie Lennox:
•Little Bird
•Many Rivers to Cross (live)
•Like a Bridge Over Troubled Waters (live)
•Under Pressure (with David Bowie)
Enjoy! 😉😁
Back when you actually needed talent to make it in the music biz! 🤩😍
I watched a program on this song and im pretty sure they said it was recorded on a 4 track machine which is pretty impressive for the sound arrangement
When youll can listen "I only want to be with you" from Tourists. Is Annie singing, earlier.
Thank you very much for that. It's a pity that the song was so shortened.
The next song by Annie Lennox could be *No more i love you's* . Would you like, I think.
How somebody could live today and dont know Love is a stranger??? Are you kidding me?
If you are freaking about the synths in this song, listen to the entire album. It's one of the 80s masteropieces. Some stunning songs on it, one of those albums where evrey song could have been released on the radio.
Annie and Dave were in a band called the Tourists before forming the Eurythmics. If you listen to some of those songs you can see the progression to the synth sound of the early Eurythmics songs.
Oh Em Gee this is fantastic love love love the best thing these guys ever did for some quirky reason love you
6:23 Yeah, I think you're the only person who has thought this. "And I want you so, it's an obsession"!! Might be a reflection on your innermost thoughts!! Hahahahaha! Jeez! Love the reaction (otherwise). xxooxx
New Wave was a LOT of synths! No...it's not about circumcision...OMG....I'm dying!!! For another weird song by them you can try " I Need a Man "
I love it❤️
Love all Eurythmics songs but this has a special place in my heart 🥰🙏🏻👌🏻
Here comes the rain again!
I was ten in 1990 and had the LP greatest hits and played it over n over
A channel of reactions to songs about circumcision. How did I not find this earlier? Great react! Subbed 🎧 💓 🎶
Glad you picked up on the vocal style so astute love you
Keep up the great work buddy. Just subscribed from the UK. Great to see more younger people appreciating the fantastic decade that was the 80s. Lots of it came from the British too 😃 35 myself and seeing more and more younger people realising the music today is absolutely crap. If you don't mind me saying.
THORN IN MY SIDE.
Try the official video for her solo "Little Bird" - all of Annie's famous video characters (played by transvestites) join her onstage. I love it!
One of my favorites from this band. 👍
