+Oran Payne I grew up in Cleveland. We had our own "pimps & hoes" game but on a much smaller scale. Plus I love the 60's and early 70's pop culture. I researched Ted and Frank Ward. Frank would often buy food and gifts for the cast and crew. He also served as a "consultant" to the script. The actress Carol Speed was his girlfriend during filming. She was pretty torn up when he was suddenly murdered. I don't think there will ever be an era as golden as this one.

Oran Payne Take cold showers! Anyway, its ironic that you mentioned that about Eisenhower. I'm not really surprised. Its was heavily rumored that Eisenhower's maternal grandmother was black. Google pictures of Eisenhower when he was young, check out his dark skin and full lips. In one photo he looks like David Justice. He was also rumored to have said that thought the greatest general was Hannibal. (an African).

Oran Payne Max Julien did a few movies after The Mack, he now works small theaters and writes plays; Carol Speed starred on Sanford and Son; and in a few other Blaxploitaion films; I believe she attends those Blaxploitaion Film festivals to sign autographs and stuff; Dick Anthony Willaims did another Blaxploitaion flick with Jim Brown called Slaughter; he was also in 1998's Players Club as Diane's father and an episode of Martin. I miss all those Blaxploitation actors. A few of them have passed away ( Jim Kelly, Ron O'Neal, Carl Lee) I would live to see the remaining ones at one of the Blaxploitaion fests.

Think about it. Isn't it amazing that Black exploitation movies came out a year after Martin Luther King was assassinated? First one was Sweet Back Bad Ass Song. Came out in 1969. Three years later came SuperFly, and The Mack. Why were these movies allowed to come out at this time. This was a time when Black people needed some positive images and roll models to lift them up and become better people. How would black people be today if there were movies showing educated people going against the odds and becoming successful. Back then we needed movies like. The Pursuit of Happiness.

1137rr Actually Sweet Back wasn't released until 1971. And it was considered very revolutionary for its time, as it was the first film in which a poor Black man defied white authority and WON. In fact it become required viewing for members of the Black Panther Party.

I got a question for anybody in cyberspace. I am from Oakland and I was at the filming of the player's ball at the showcase lounge on Telegraph Ave in Oakland. What I never found out is what ever happen to Donald Warden the Ward Brother's lawyer. He is also in the movie at the players ball. But when Frank Ward got killed all the surviving Ward Brother's left Oakland never to return. But I know that Donald Warden was a practicing attorney in Oakland.. But Donald just up and disappeared like the Ward Brothers. So does anybody here in cyberspace know what happened to Donald Warden the lawyer for the Ward Brothers? Thanks for any information on this.

Max Julien&co definitely did the best they could with the backing of Black Panther and Oakland pimps. Some scenes are cringe-inducing and I'd love to see a version with them removed (the drunk cop scene is abominable), but the good stuff is great lo-fi theatrics.

I saw this movie back in the day. I realize now what crap this (and other black "exploitation") movies were really about....making money, regardless of the quality of the film. If money can be made at the expense of the black man's (or any culture for that matter) plight-so what! Lol I guess it's always been that way, hasn't it? Sell your women for money... she's just a commodity. Same thing happened just a few years later with crack, right? Lol
