  • We at Pride In Watches, serviced Seiko's quartz watch with 9642 caliber. This caliber featured twin quartz technology for better accuracy.
Watch was consuming too much battery and battery was getting drained out pretty quick. A good service can mitigate this problem.

Great watch, bought one second hand in gold tone. It is in good working order after more than 40 years. Not going to tinker with it until it stops. Thanks for this video.

Great video! I would've loved a short description of how the auxiliary quartz crystal oscillator works in conjunction with the primary to mitigate the effect of temperature on the rate of operation of the watch.
I love your work, and hope to see you much more successful in the near future☺️ Keep it up!

Ah, the good old Twin Quartz! Those are cool movements, that dual crystal set-up was an early form of thermal compensation. The biggest issue with those is that they all suffer from "Quartz drift". Well, all quartz crystals drift over time (affecting the accuracy), this is why high end Quartz movements can be adjusted, but on these ones its worse. This 9642 is rated for +-20s/year but I wouldn't be surprised if it's close to +-10s/month. They can be brought back to spec, I've done it! However you'll need something like a Horotec Flash Test and lots of patience lol. Took me a good 30 min to get a 9923 back to spec.
ETA also had some Twin Quartz movements and the way to adjust those is way simpler (by pulsations).
You don't see many videos of people working on HAQs, so, I'm subscribed!

I own 2 Seiko twin quartz watches, one is an early "Dolce" 9641A which is basically the same movement as 9642A minus date. The other one I have is a King Quartz 9443A. I found that on the 9443 I have to adjust both the main and auxiliary trimmer condenser despite that service manual said you should only touch the main one. Once adjusted the 9443 is running at +1s per month very consistent so really happy with that. The 9641 however only has one trimmer but it seem to run within spec with just that one trimmer adjusted. Also the battery in the 9641 only lasted 15 months but I had not service it, the 9443 I serviced a few months ago so will see how long the battery last.

Great job. Would have been nice if you could have got the second hand placed to hit the markers exactly. I agree with another commenter that silent vids are not anywhere near as good as a voice explanation of what you are doing. Keep up the good work. Subscribed.

I have a Seiko like this one. similar design but mine is just one quartz, no date, and curcular. Handset and face are the same with this.

Yes, your watch has 9641 caliber which is almost same but without date function.

Could you please tell me what do you use for cleaning the parts? The yellow liquid and the other you rinse the parts in. Do you use other methods as well?

Good video but, personally I would rather have voice narrative explaining what you're doing, and what some of the parts are. I don't care much for the silent videos with explanation text on the screen. Sorry.
