    Thank you so much for the video! I wanted to ask you if my insurance is tied to my car, as in, if I drive a rental will I still have to get the insurance they provide even if I have an auto insurance?

    • @ThinkInsurance
      @ThinkInsurance  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would check with your insurance provider because it technically up to them but yes most companies will extend the coverages you have to a rental car.

    What does rental vs Home ownership, Education, Marital status, Military, credit score have to do with Driver performance.? Sounds good on paper but my community by default is penalized by race ,zip code and other parameters unrelated to driver performance.

    • @ThinkInsurance
      @ThinkInsurance  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good points! A lot of states have/are changing some of those ratings where insurance companies can’t base the rate on that. I have several videos that go more into depth on those and how the insurance companies use them.
      Most starts have removed education, sex, zip code, credit score (diff than insurance score).
      Military isn’t a direct discount, it’s an affiliation discount in most cases.
      This is why shopping to find the best company that doesn’t count these against you if this is your demographic is important.
      Either way, great insight!

      @@ThinkInsurance unfortunately this is 👍 True, reform unfortunately arrives slowly and with a devastating price tag for so-called minority communities. We don't make it up. New Jerseys denser in population than any other state, therefore the justification.
      Even worse New Jersey is notoriously draconian in its establishment of the highest auto surcharges in the country next to California and Hawaii.
      .
      Recent legislation was passed banning the Automotive Surcharge New Jerseyans pay, passed in the wake of the George Floyd incident last year.
      The outrageous part is that it doesnt even take effect until 2035. 15 years from now talk about spitting in your corn flakes.
      Senator Cory Bookers sponsored a bill passed in the Legislature banning insurance carriers from utilizing non driver proxies as a determination factor in assessing insurance policies as I mentioned. PAID the prohibition of unfair auto insurance act. Stinks but what ya gonna do but roll with the punches.
      Any how thanks for hearing my rant and I'll definitely take any advise youve given and thanks for sharing.

    • @ThinkInsurance
      @ThinkInsurance  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Maleah malcolm yes. You can always add an additional driver to your policy. Same goes for their vehicle IF they live in the same household

      Mark Flockhart Thank You very much. Do You run your own insurance company? Did you have to study for each state individually?

    • @ThinkInsurance
      @ThinkInsurance  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Maleah malcolm You are very welcome. Most states have the same or similar exam so if you're licensed in one state you can pay to have it extended to others. It's costly but a benefit when you work for a company that advertises across the entire US.

    I have a question .. If i have a car insuranc and want to add more cars , how many cars am i eligible to add , and if so should all cars be driven by me to get them insurance or i can add any of my siblings under my name

    • @ThinkInsurance
      @ThinkInsurance  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Most companies have a limit of 5 vehicles on 1 policy. You would simply have 2 policies if you have more cars. You can add your siblings if they live with you. Progressive may not require them to live with you. However, if something happens you’re liable for their accident since you would be the primary policy holder.

    Please help!! I'm divorced and live in MS my daughter (16) lives in AL with her mother. I purchased her a car for her birthday. It is in my name and titled/registered in MS. She will have an AL drivers license and the car will be garaged in AL. I'm having trouble finding an insurance company that wants to add her since she doesn't live with me. Her mother has agreed to reimburse me for the cost of the insurance; her insurance won't cover our daughter since the car is titled/registered in my name. What do we do??

    • @ThinkInsurance
      @ThinkInsurance  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Technically since it's a legal situation (divorce) you are legally allowed to insure her on your policy with her car on yours. You would have a seperate garaging adress. If you daughter is a student simply tell them you want to add a vehicel and your daughter to your policy and let them know she is away at school with mom so the car will be garaged at a diff location. OrIf you are responsible to carry the insurance let them know that and they will add your daughter to it. I think you might be explaining it to the companies incorrectly. Since you're the registered owner you are the only one that can insure it (insurability). Last option is you can add or title it to her and then she can insure it with mom or on her own. They'll let you pay the bill however, then the car is 100% hers and you have no rights to it. Just know each insurance company has different guidelines so some may say no but you shoudl find the majority are okay with that. Otherwise Progressive is more leanient with those situation than most companies.

    Does Texas allow a person to get a discount if they have there own medical insurance.

    • @ThinkInsurance
      @ThinkInsurance  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don’t believe there is a specific discount in TX since they don’t require you to carry medical through your auto. If your medical will cover you then you wouldn’t need to purchase any med-pay or PIP but keep in mind if you often have people that ride with you it covers them as well in the event of an accident.

      how bout florida?

    • @ThinkInsurance
      @ThinkInsurance  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      FL is an outlier. Unlike most states it’s their bodily injury and Un-insured/Under-insured coverage that is more expensive.
      You’ll find a video I made on FL in my video section :0)

    Why do people still owe balance if they cancel early and they are told by insurance that they don't owe all the customer has to do is stop paying and it will cancel on its own why they still owe a balance?

    • @ThinkInsurance
      @ThinkInsurance  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Typically there is no balance owed unless there is a cancellation fee or NSF fee or there was a change that was not calculated all the way through. Sometimes when you buy a different vehicle the actual rate isn’t fully updated or processed until the renewal

    How can you tell you are getting all the discounts. i.e. I didn't see listed on my policy a discount for my stolen recovery or anti-theft alarm but my agent said they don't always list all discounts but it is included as they get all the discounts from the VIN number. Is this true should I trust her statement?

    Mark, I have a question for you. I am 65 and I have Medicare, how much PIP coverage should I have ? Can I carry the minimum of $15,000 required in NJ ?

    • @ThinkInsurance
      @ThinkInsurance  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Medicare and Medicare don’t typically coordinate/cover in auto claims unless you gave a supplement. I would test the price and see how much it would cost for the max; 250,000 at a 250 deductible vs 250k at a 2500 deductible vs 15k at 250 deductible. Sometimes the cost difference in NJ is minimal

    • @jaiprem7413
      @jaiprem7413 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mark Flockhart , hey, thanks Mark. But I do have supplemental insurance in addition to my Medicare.

    • @ThinkInsurance
      @ThinkInsurance  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great! Then the only other question you need to ask yourself is how often do people ride with you or drive your car? If often then you will want coverage in the event they are injured otherwise as long as your supplement covers car accidents I would lean toward the lower amount.

    My daughter is 19 and a college student living at home with me, the car she drives is in my name and she’s insured under my policy. My payment for her on a VW beetle 2014 2 door hatchback is $142.18 a month. How can I get this lowered and still keep her safe while I’m paying off the car?

    • @ThinkInsurance
      @ThinkInsurance  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      1) If she gets good grades you may qualify for the "good student discount". 2) Some companies care about mileage so, if she drives less than 5000 miles a year it may help. Ask them how many miles they have her driving. 3) Depending on your state you might be able to have her take an online defensive driving course which could get you a discount. 4.) You may want to research (google) companies in your state that are competitive for younger drivers and get a quote with them.
      I would say $142 isn't too bad assuming you have full coverage on the car. Here is a video I made for teen drivers: th-cam.com/video/ucXvGT9QMic/w-d-xo.html

    I wouldn’t consider low mileage a discount. Discounts vary by company as I’m sure you’re aware. If mom and daughter live together and have separate insurance they would have to be included or excluded on the their policies. So technically they could be on each other’s polices and have different ones. If the mother has affinity , home insurance etc it would be beneficial to be together for the daughter but like you said the daughter can jack up the rates if you gets a ticket or accident but at that point you could exclude her and she could get her own policy. If their not included and they drive the others persons car it’s not covered. Credit score doesn’t matter in CA. medical doesn’t matter in CA. CA is different , but a lot of these discounts aren’t relevant there. Informative video overall

    • @ThinkInsurance
      @ThinkInsurance  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed, California is a different system all together where at least when I sold insurance there they didn’t rate for no prior, let you exclude anyone, have some extremely low requirements etc.... mileage there was a big rate change for the company I worked for at the time

    I see so many people on here and I meet so many people who want to know how to save money "Now that my child is driving and is on my policy with their own car." Here is a tip: make your child pay for their part of the insurance. They have access to a car and they are old enough drive so they are old enough to work. It will teach them responsibility and they will be better drivers because they know if they get a ticket or cause an accident they will have to pay more.
