Fantastic videos mate, great to see the orange and gray era and the Candy era and all the variety of the good days. Great that we finally have some V/line orange locos running around again (A62, 66 & Y127, with more to come as well) Will be great to see a couple of sets repainted back to the V/line orange & Gray livery eventually too. Would be nice to see some candy stuff too some day.

Odd seeing the Aurora with the MBK car carriers not at the back of the train.
Great memories of hotpotch train consists.
    Thankyou

Fond memories of a time long past. I noted the separate Aurora and Spirit services due to holiday period traffic. Post 1986 the two services were normally combined as either the MEX (Sydney - Melbourne) (going down Mexico way as our northern neighbours used to say) and the SEX (Melbourne - Sydney) (I'll leave that one to your imagination). There was a bevy of withdrawn L and T Class in the storage sidings and I see the Overland Light Locos used the now gone reversing loop on their way back to South Dynon Loco. A couple of practices viewed would be frowned on today (Grunter the Shunter riding the front of Y103 and the 2nd creature on 42203 protruding his leg towards the street). The now gone Melbourne Yard in the background looked a tad empty. This was the era when pressure was being put on by management for all train make up and break up to be done at Tottenham Yard. There's probably a number of other things I could relate by a 2nd viewing, but I'd better leave room for others to comment. Thanks for posting this historic vision, Darcy.

You have a very good eye Michael; thank you very much for a little bit of that history info.
Keep your eyes peeled this Friday for when I upload another video from the John Wilson Archive.

I almost said the dying days of the Southern Auroa, but as you pointed out, the MEX had been split into two, interestingly the Motorail wagons were still at the front, these would usually have been shunted to the rear of the train at Albury due to the SG car loading dock been next to the inner roadway at the departure end of platform 2.
