Greetings from the Chester Fire Department, I love the dashcam vids but these building construction videos you do are 🔥. Keep it up I appreciate what you do
This is excellent information on identifying the void spaces based on the roof style. Also, some awesome information on the blown-in insulataion. The dying art of overhaul could probably use a video itself. Great stuff!
Great video Brian, remember studying the Mansard roof style in our rookie school training. But , never had a hands on experience with it. The style of dwellings you encounter in Harrisburg with the Mansard roof, are they also ballon construction? Have fought fire in ballon construction houses, they’re a real gem. I’m retired now, but enjoy following different departments to see what they are doing. I’ve enjoyed your work in Harrisburg. Keep up the great job and stay safe!!! Bob
Excellent Presentation Brian. Excellent Helmet cam Footage from your point during the fire as well. Miss those days as a Firefighter/Tillerman. Keep up the Great Work.
I was thinking the same thing. We don’t have mansard roofs in our area, but have a ton of knee walls, and this was a really clear video full of good information!
Well, funny you should ask, I just did a video on knee walls but, in light of the fire we had yesterday I am going to redo it and add some additional information. I'll get it out soon.
Thank you for the heads up. I think I have figured out the source of the issue. If you check out the video I did on Knee Walls I don't think you hear it anymore. There was a Light on overhead in the room that was 'dimmed' I'm fairly certain this caused the interference. That is the only thing that is different between these two videos and but the 'hum' or whatever you would like to call is doesn't show up in the second video. Thoughts on that?
So, I'm not completely sure I understand the question, but I'd say that it doesn't matter the type of building. The construction feature, like the bay window or the cornice or the mansard have to have the voids in order to have the end product.
Great information
Thank you!

Thanks Brian, very informative, I live in a Victorian style home on 2nd street.
Glad you like it! I love those houses up there!
Chief, are those openings and spaces behind them found on SFR or three deckers with mansards?
