Anwar wicket was the most crucial and game changer.
Saeed Anwar and Inzamam Ul Haq were Pak's trump cards in anchoring the innings. But again, as a team, Pak played well as a team in that world cup and thats why qualified for the finals. You don't want a team to win a world cup which depends on 1 player. Not many teams would win if they just have 1 or 2 good players.
@@macster1613 i know cricket is 22 players game, just remember previous two innings of anwar (two consecutive centuries) and this innings' starting (may be 3 stunning boundaries). Anwar in-form is one of the most eye-soothing possibilities of cricket.

Being a very little kid in 1999, I remember the glimpses of the match being watched on the national television across the whole Pakistan. It's still heartbreaking and i do remember that after the match the streets near my house turned like a mournful funeral.
It was the best squad of Pakistan Cricket team, I don't know how they got defeated by Australia.

I remember how we won our second match from Australia and were sure we'd win the final as well. But our batting badly failed in this world cup. Only Moin khan would come and do 50 to 60 runs out of the whole lot. Our bowlers (shoaib akhtar specially) were lethal back then. I think we lost to India and SA only in qualifying matches. rest of the matches we won. And wete sure Aus would lose. Aus had a bad start in that particular world cup

Its a game, its a sport, as a sportsman, u try to give 100%. Pak played the whole world cup beautifully, just could not bat properly in the final, in a way, the batting choked, the batsman choked. It happens in cricket. Bowling did not lose the final for Pak, it was the batting. Wasim Akram is a bowler, so if u are saying that match was fixed, which batsmen fixed the match and got out cheaply. Tell me which batsmen because they just made 132, so if you are accusing this match to be fixed, tell me which batsmen.

All becoz of dalla Wasim Akram who opted to bat first despite knowing the conditions there.
It was not a fixed match. Pak just did not play well, they won the toss and elected to bat, that was what was required. Post a total and defend it.

This was a 270-plus pitch. Complete batting collapse by Pakistan. After playing so well in the tournament, they looked tired and ineffective in the final. I think the worst finals were 1999 thanks to Pak's batting collapse against Aus and India's bowling nightmare in 2003 finals against Aus. To chase a score of over 350 against Aus was one-sided and Sachin got out in the first over against McGrath made it one of the worst finals in the history of world cups.

@@muhammadsharif1205 this is as far as i remember, the last memorable world cup.. full crowds, great atmosphere, players like klusener, akhtar becoming legends.. even the uniforms in this world cup are discussed and tried to be replicated till date.. and the attitude that was given a green signal here "Pakistani are an unpredictable team" is something that they keep carrying till date thinking and knowing nobody expects them to take responsibility.
