Ok, Ashley...so once you go down the Snarky Puppy rabbit hole there's no coming back up. They're a musical collective originally from Texas and they also have their own groups and projects individually. Mike League (the bassist) founded it 20 years ago. Last week I was again at their annual music festival in Miami. After one of their sets, I asked him between all of them and their collective works, how many Grammy's are on the stage. He told me north of 70. For "The Puppies" this song was their first.

yeah Snarky Puppy is amazing, and Lalah is otherworldly.
The famous one to react to is Lingus (from the We Like it Here session), but I also love Shofukan and Sleeper (man plays hosepipe) from the same session. Those are 2013. For one of the latest ones you will absolutely love for the change-ups, Trinity (extended version) should be on your list.
She has a few amazing songs with Joe Sample worth a listen. When Your Life Was Low is such and amazing song!
Lalah is the daughter soul legend Donnie Hathaway. She has an extensive catalog of her own but hearing her dad's song, "A Song For You," will give you insight of what she was raised up around

Snarky Puppy won a Grammy for this performance featuring the great Layla Hathaway. Layla's dad, the legendary Donny Hathaway, sang, in my opinion, the greatest love song ever written, called "A Song For You,"

Donny did not write "A Song For You", a Leon Russell tune, covered over 100 times by many artists, including the late, great Donny Hathaway.

Kenya is on Lee Ritenour's OVERTIME DVD (2005). She was singing "Is It You?" with Grady Harrell.

So, Snarky Puppy is an instrumental band, currently with almost 20 members. They have two collaborative "Family Dinner" albums, Vol. 1 and Vol. 2, in which they invite a bunch of musicians to play cover songs with them, and most of the songs in those albums feature singers, such as Lalah. "Something" comes from Family Dinner Vol. 1. Brenda Russell is the original performer of the song, and the original is also amazing, albeit completely different.
