The agreement was signed, but the US side came up with a ROKIT proposal, which was developed in the form and performance similar to that of the new US third-generation M1, Abrams. Based on the ROK Army's requirement for operational capabilities (ROC), the company was responsible for development in General Dynamics Ground (GDLS) in 1982, and the rest was developed in Korea in 1986. At the end of the 1970s, development was discussed as North Korea heard T-72 massive intelligence intelligence [1] and a prototype was shipped from General Dynamics Inc. in December 1983. [2] It is based on the M1 tank, has been miniaturized to fit the Korean terrain, and has improved fire control and suspension systems. In the case of the early type, the Armor Plate (SAP), which is similar to the armor material of the M1 Abrams tanks, showed an armor level of 400 ~ 500mm, but the later production was made with KSAP (Korean Spacial Armor Plate), and the protection performance is enhanced to 600mm class level equivalent to K1A1. The K-1 tank project was carried out under the K-1A1, a part of the turret was redesigned for the 120mm suspension, and the K-1 tank was replaced with the K-1E1 -1A1 There is improvement in the level of the tram.
This is 2 years late, but the K1's design was (I think) inspired from the XM1 General Motors prototype. If you look at the two, the XM1 GM looks like a K1
Another fine build and video, Andy. I've found that when I use any enamel washes or oil paints, I would first apply a coat of Tamiya's clear gloss. I've found that pin washes can be controlled better with little chance of the "runs." Before I forget, I've applied my decals before weathering my models so that they may be weathered as well. Once again, another fine build! Happy modeling!!
Another quality video and thank you for the tips when Assembling the wheels and suspension.great paint job as normal and thanks for all the great tips.i'll look forward to the next build.
Superb work as always Andy and a very nice little model kit from Academy. Many thanks for sharing and passing on your experience and knowledge. Have fun with your next project, Joe
Fantastic job Andy, i build this vehicle a while ago and it was a fun build. I like your paint job though. Vallejo putty works great for the barrel seamline.
Great work as always, just a quick note though, on South Korean MBTs, the emblem shields are usually located on the upper glacier of the hull, between the headlights
I like how you do the tracks, quite simple but very effective, i don't know if this helps as another option but for WW2 tanks especially, i like to paint the tracks a flat earth colour as a base, then dry brush a gun metal colour like Ak interactive's True Metal to highlight the top of the tracks where they have contact with the ground and edges where the track pins go in, once that's dried, get a track wash that's a earthy/rusty colour and go over the whole track, being as careful or as messy as you like, when that's dried apply the mud and dust effects as you want, then afterwards apply a few spots here and there of the black or dark brown panel line just to add a bit of tone to them. I find it really brings the tracks to life for heavily weather tank models.
Another top notch build Andy! I wish I had a hobby store around like Yours. I'll bet Your store is awesome! Maybe some day You could give Us a brief tour of Your shop.
Andy, I am just finishing the limited availability version of this kit. It comes with the tank crew as well as a load more details like wiring conduits and lenses, and it comes with the multipart built up tracks. It is a great kit and I'm looking forward to painting mine. I do appreciate the color tips. Love your videos, thanks for sharing this. Now if someone would put out the k2 black panther... Academy are listening?
Oh! Andy. You did a good job. But, please check the direction of caterpillar. You put it in opposite direction. The rubber pads should look like 'V' when viewed from front.
Thought so too. What you mean are the commander's panoramic sight and the gunner's primary sight, which for your information, would also house a laser range finder.
Great video Andy, couple of questions: 1. Road wheels, how do you make sure the rubber is painted black? 2. Decals, do you apply a gloss clear coat first, then decal, then seal with a flat coat? Thanks
Hi Andy! i am aware that there are som many brands of both models, paint etc. So what i wonder is: what is the best brand of models och paint for a normal brush?
Hello and greetings from Greece. After the weathering do you apply a coat of matt lacquer? I sometimes do but sometimes dont because the weathering has already given the matt look!
Love this camo, looks really good . I am a little mystified as to why the mudguard boxes are angled upwards at the front , instead of following the downwards shape of the hull ? This is obviously correct , just looks strange , anyone agree ?? Wales UK.
I really need an airbrush, but too expensive! Should i get one of those ones with a can instead of compressor? Should i ge tthe ones that have a portable black box with red button compressor kits? Those are cheap(60$). Or ill just spray can and brush paint for now and save up. :(
Andy, really nice work on this one. I couldn't tell from your video if you did washes on just a few of the elements of this kit, or if you did a traditional pin wash around all the bolts and other raised bits?
I've seen your technique on thinning Tamiya paint, and I Was wanting to try it myself. One question though, would alcohol work in place of ta,Ilya thinners? Would other brands of acrylic thinners also work? I don't have easy access to Tamiya products and was wondering. Thanks and I find your videos really helpful.
Hey Andy I'm new to your videos and I have to say you do an amazing job with your kits and with your great weathering skills. Just asking have you built the academy 1/35 Pz.kpfw IV ausf H4 with the side armor. If not will you build it soon.
I think it would be interesting if you took some of the extra parts from different model kits and built something sci fi. I am doing that right now and it is looking great.
Do you just build this while you're working? And can you make a video with a tour of your shop? I think more than a few of us would think it's cool to see the place!
fyi that tiger division insignia must be on the front of the hull , you can trust me because i was in ROKA tank battalion for 2years, we used that tank
Decal guide is not included probably to prevent some 'information securities', so to say? Which I think is a little bit odd because quite a number of Korean men already have gotten to know locations and meanings of the markings during compulsory service. Anyway that's their policy.
Hi Andy, love your vids, but I have a quick question for you - Can you explain the process you use to change colors in your airbrush? Do you change the cup, blow thinner, and then go to the next color or clean your airbrush and then start the next color? It seems to take me forever. I am cleaning my whole brush and then moving on to the next color. Should I be doing something different? Thanks again!
I will do a airbrushing video soon , but for changing colors I just flush it out with water or rubbing alcohol and then deep clean after I done painting.
Andy, the emblem should be on the center of the upper glacier plate not on the turret! Anyway, thanks for the small building tips. As a starter, l'm learning alot from your vids.
Nice build Andy! Are you Interested in building a Chinese type 99a2 tank from trumpeter or Panda and show us how to paint a digital camouflage on it. Thanks.😊 Also, will be much greater if you can add baroque music on the video.
Hi Andy, wow another great video with some excellent information. The lacquer you mention, do you use Gloss, satin or matt? thanks again for a great video. Happy modelling, Les
Looks like a nice enjoyable kit, looks good for beginners too. Thanks for the paint tips
I remember seeing early K1s while I was stationed in Korea in the '80s... at first glance they looked like 3/4 scale M1 Abrams.
김용호 literally the only time an Abrams doesn't look bad is when it has that mine plow thing on the front
Russ Emerson they do look like abrams

K1A1 is a great tank. Respect to the good people of the Republic of Korea.
Nice build, walked past this kit many times in my LHS...after watching this i may pick it up on my next visit

Another quality video and thank you for the tips when Assembling the wheels and suspension.great paint job as normal and thanks for all the great tips.i'll look forward to the next build.
I love this kit and tank. It can “kneel” this way / and this way \ for a hull down defilade position.
Superb work as always Andy and a very nice little model kit from Academy. Many thanks for sharing and passing on your experience and knowledge.
Have fun with your next project,
Joe
Fantastic job Andy, i build this vehicle a while ago and it was a fun build. I like your paint job though. Vallejo putty works great for the barrel seamline.
the segment on paint layering was extremely useful, thank you very much.
awesome video, beautiful result as always!

Fortunately, YES. Academy already released rendering images, and maybe the product will come out on mid or late this year.

That looks awesome!
Great build ! I really enjoy watching your videos !!! Cannot wait for the next one. Greetings from Italy.
고맙습니다
Do you top coat all the kits you've painted? Or is it okay if you don't topcoat all?
You are a great professional & perfectionist.
Yeah great paint work. Beauty.
Can you put ts 80 over the decals?
Do you use lacquer after you weather the tracks or does the pigments hold without it?
The Diagram of the steps was great! It would be cool to see in all your builds.
Thank you Andy. Another great video.
i notice you always seal with tamiya or testors rattle cans. do you ever use pledge floor care as a sealer?
Oh! Andy. You did a good job. But, please check the direction of caterpillar. You put it in opposite direction. The rubber pads should look like 'V' when viewed from front.
Great model store - hope I get to pay it a visit some day :)
Nice work, but didn't you forget to paint the lights and laser array (whatever that thing on the top of the turret is)?
Thought so too. What you mean are the commander's panoramic sight and the gunner's primary sight, which for your information, would also house a laser range finder.
What sort of paint and colour do you use for the streaks??...

Nice build of an interesting kit. Are the tracks on the wrong way?
Another beautiful build

Hola Andy. Me gusta mucho tus trabajos. Para cuándo un video de técnicas con el aerografo? Gracias. No me pierdo ninguno de tus trabajos.

Hello and greetings from Greece. After the weathering do you apply a coat of matt lacquer? I sometimes do but sometimes dont because the weathering has already given the matt look!
What about building Tamiya's Tiran 5? Or the Leclerc?
Ok Joshua..Thanks. I will have to look for that video. I must of missed it.
Andy, just wondered is xf86 flat clear the same as ts80?
Great build Andy please tell me the make and model air brush you use many thanks J
P from the island of Cyprus
another great build Andy , loved the camouflage. I agree with a couple of the comments you've had , can you build the challenger 2 👍
How about combine suspension arm and wheel together before glue it on the hull? :)
Love this camo, looks really good . I am a little mystified as to why the mudguard boxes are angled upwards at the front , instead of following the downwards shape of the hull ? This is obviously correct , just looks strange , anyone agree ?? Wales UK.

Anti skid surface?
Very good explanation.
Andy, really nice work on this one. I couldn't tell from your video if you did washes on just a few of the elements of this kit, or if you did a traditional pin wash around all the bolts and other raised bits?
Hi Andy,
Nice job on painting, but the track pads face to the wrong direction. You should inverse them.

I'd like to see what would happen if you were to heavily weather a vehicle. Like one that's really seen quite a few months to years of combat.
Looks amazing ! Only one Thing though, your Tracks are on Backwards ! Looks ON the Box and you will See that the Pads are facing the wrong way !!
Can I ask what size tip do you use?
I've seen your technique on thinning Tamiya paint, and I Was wanting to try it myself. One question though, would alcohol work in place of ta,Ilya thinners? Would other brands of acrylic thinners also work? I don't have easy access to Tamiya products and was wondering. Thanks and I find your videos really helpful.

Denatured alcohol from the hardware store works well too. That’s what I use.
Thanks for this diagram, keep up the great work!
greetings from Germany
why don't you build south Korea K2?
Andy, u forgot to paint sensor optic ,persiscopes and front/rear lights?
Verry good
멋집니다. Korea tank
Hey Andy I'm new to your videos and I have to say you do an amazing job with your kits and with your great weathering skills. Just asking have you built the academy 1/35 Pz.kpfw IV ausf H4 with the side armor. If not will you build it soon.
Most of the South Korean tanks/ armored vehicles have their decals on the front of their hull. (Right in between the front facings headlights)
I think it would be interesting if you took some of the extra parts from different model kits and built something sci fi. I am doing that right now and it is looking great.

do you know where to get this by shipping?
fyi that tiger division insignia must be on the front of the hull , you can trust me because i was in ROKA tank battalion for 2years, we used that tank
and track pad has its direction when you see tracks in front of the tank they must be seem like Vs , that is right side
Would love to see you build a 1/16th scale Trumpeter Tiger or Jagdtiger with their full interiors
와우 드디어 우리나라 전차를!!!!

Well built!
Just saying but Korean tanks(camo) have those wiggly white lines ONLY on the hull
Decal guide is not included probably to prevent some 'information securities', so to say? Which I think is a little bit odd because quite a number of Korean men already have gotten to know locations and meanings of the markings during compulsory service. Anyway that's their policy.
It's an abrams, leopard 2 hybrid
another excellent video Andy, have you ever thought about doing a B 25 C Mitchell bomber.
This tank can “bow” and “stretch” with real world suspension! 😁🇰🇷
Yes I once built one with the front of the tank kneeling down!
Wow I answered my old self!🤣🤣
Thank you to review korean plastic models!^^
Amazing 👏
What’s the name of the song 6:18?
OMG u actually bought the thing I asked u a few weeks ago. THANK U OMG ^_^_^^_^_^_^_^^_^_^_^_^
Hey Andy,
could you maybe build a early M4 with extreme weathering?
Hi Andy :) Your videos and "how-to's" are really really great.
I've already subscribed and will never miss a new video.
Keep going :)
Hey Andy what's your favorite tank any era nice build
Andy do you ever build 1/350 scale ships ? Love the videos though.
Great video as always..... I was wondering if there was a Korean Blank Panther kit given world events
do you sell your creations?
Hi Andy, love your vids, but I have a quick question for you - Can you explain the process you use to change colors in your airbrush? I will do a airbrushing video soon , but for changing colors I just flush it out with water or rubbing alcohol and then deep clean after I done painting.
Oh Ok, Flush the old color and move on and a full cleanup at the end of the day. makes sense to me - Thanks!!
great videos and paints Andy, Pls do the takom object 279 tank pls :)
Andy, the emblem should be on the center of the upper glacier plate not on the turret! Anyway, thanks for the small building tips. As a starter, l'm learning alot from your vids.
thanks good to know
Nice build.
You put that blind guard decal in the middle of the cockpit.
I'm working in the tiger-marked unit, and that mark is attached to the center of the body.
Thank you very much !!!
I'd gonna buy one !!!
Wow so nice
Andy could you please do a mark 5
Nice build Andy! Are you Interested in building a Chinese type 99a2 tank from trumpeter or Panda and show us how to paint a digital camouflage on it. Thanks.😊 Also, will be much greater if you can add baroque music on the video.

Hi Andy, wow another great video with some excellent information. The lacquer you mention, do you use Gloss, satin or matt? thanks again for a great video.
Happy modelling,
Les
nice build sir
