  • In this chapter, the Tomioka lens is introduced, which produces a special flare (that was hard to seek).

I bought a Tomioka Auto Tominon 55 1.2 new when it first came out and seldom used it. I still have it and was pleasantly surprised as to all the attention it is getting. I use it now on My D750 by holding it against the lens flange. It is a wonderful lens that gives me awesome photos. Thank you for your informative video. I also have a Mamiya Deluxe with the 48mm lens, that you say is also a Tomioka. The photos I take with it are very beautiful as well. It is the smoothest rangefinder I have in my collection.

Sorry for the late reply. Yes, Tomioka lens has it's distinctive flare, and when the day I'm fully loaded with cinematic eyes, these two lenses are to follow in my camera bag. Thanks for your comment.

Thank you for confirming my suspicions! I purchased a Tomioka 55mm f1.2 a few years ago before the prices went crazy. I do enjoy the bokeh, but the lack of aperture blades (6 I think) sets it back from being more usable. Also, the notch cut out of the rear element is detrimental to the bokeh, and you will have to modify your m42 adapter to accept the large rear element if you are shooting mirrorless.

@seoulrydr, thank you for the long support. Let me guess your lens😁. It's Auto Yashinon DS-M 55m f/1.2, with big letters TOMIOKA JAPAN. I'm right🤗? That was one of my latest purchases for a price of USD$900 (was asking for 1K) and why I bought it? I don't own a gold mine, cockroaches now reside inside my wallet. Stay tuned to this chapter. Thank you again.

In this video, I was searching for the "Circle Rainbow" (Japanese call it) and for the "Shower flare", as shown in my previous videos "This is the Auto-Yashinon-DX f/1.7 at 05:52, "This is the Mamiya-Sekor 48mm f/1.5 at 01:02, and the Yashica Yashinon 45mm f/1.4 at 03:34, but that was not easy and why? My conclusions: the multi-coating of this lens in action.

I have this Tomioka lens, I like it so much. I have version with big holes on rubber focusing ring, like in video, and I can testify by myself that is extremely, extremely sharp and this is great lens. The best one when I tested against other 50mm lenses. I am ot tested it against SMC Takumar 50mm f1.4. and SMC Takumar 55mm f1.8 but I have to. Good video. 👍

Thank you for your comment. The fireworks at the end of my video were about 2 to 3km away. Each detail captured even at night time, demonstrates how sharp this lens is.

Hello, thank you for your video! Do you know, by chance, if this lens is radioactive? Thank you

Thank you for your comment, and the pleasure it is mine. Unfortunatelly no. It's not radioactive. By the day I can confirm it's radioactivity, I will post on errata.

Yes, it's a Tomioka made lens. Tomioka lenses have their distinctive flare as shown in this and other videos about Tomioka. Thanks for your comment.
