"Joey" is probably their most well-known tune. It's a great song that looks at alcohol addiction through the eyes of the partner of the addict. Definitely worth a reaction.

Yeah, "Joey" is great and sad and has some of Johnette's best vocals, but they have so many other great songs. "God is a Bullet" is a hard look at gun violence in America, "Still in Hollywood" is a banger that I play a lot when I'm driving down Hollywood Boulevard or through H'wood; and "Walking in London" is one of my favs just because I love, well, walking in London. Johnette is a powerhouse vocalist and I feel like her and the band are criminally unknown.

I only listened to a couple of songs on "Mexican Moon" and right away thought it's a hidden gem.

All of Bloodletting is amazing, I was 12ish my favorite album for years and introduced it to many people that would have never herd them 😊 I can still sing this word for word at 48yo!

Concrete Blonde is a band that doesn’t get the attention they deserve. GREAT BAND. GREAT ALBUMS. GREAT LEAD SINGER.

The "THINK" the long nails for vampires is a reference to them spending long periods in their coffins where their nails would grow over the hibernation periods.

Johnette is an underrated singer...check out her stellar pipes in their song Heal It Up.

Yeah, this is one of the all-time great Halloween songs that nobody has ever heard. Back then, bands like this were considered ‘alternative’ and very few cities had a radio station that played this sort of thing. You called it a rock song, but back then, the rock stations were playing Guns and Roses, Def Leppard, Motley Crue, and AC/DC. This was just a little too different for people to know what to do with it. But, for people who were bored of what the normal stations played, bands like Concrete Blonde, Cowboy Junkies, Mazzy Star, The Jesus and Mary Chain, The Ramones, Jane’s Addiction, Sonic Youth and a hundred other great bands had just enough extra nuance and personality to be a refreshing change from the common regurgitations that the big labels and radio stations all decided we needed to listen to. It might not sound too far out-of-the-box nowadays, with indie stuff on every soundtrack, and in every coffee shop, but back then, there were gatekeepers, and they only liked stuff that would fill arenas. Bands like Concrete Blonde paved the way for all the weird stuff we get to enjoy today. Ha.

One of my fave bands, here doing their most Goth song. Never gotten their due. But their songwriting is strong and Johnette Napolitano has a great voice.

Check out "Ghost of a Texas Ladies Man" by them. The story goes they were on tour in Texas and staying at a hotel (motel?) that was purportedly haunted by a ghost. Johnette saw him in her room after their gig.
It has a Southwestern sound that is haunting.

They got at least 4 albums that I can listen to from start to end and each song is great. Johnette Napolitano can sing!!!!!

Thanks Maddy for taking a trip down Concrete Blonde's Path...
Great Song, Great Album - Bloodletting - If you ever thought about doing a full album reaction.
Kinda funny, In the late 80's Early 90's When they were releasing album's etc.
I never really liked them much, Definitely liked the song Caroline but nothing much else
by them really grabbed my attention... Early 2000's out of nowhere I started listening to more
of them & They really are a very underrated band, Johnette's voice is amazing & Musically very versatile..
They do a pretty decent cover of Hendrix's Little Wing too...
Here's a variety of song's that may grab your attention like they did mine...
Mexican Moon is a great tune, Along with Little Conversations, Scene Of A Perfect Crime, True,
Ghost Of A Texas Ladies Man, Woman To Woman... And So Many More..
Thanks Again & Enjoy The Ride If You Take The Chance & React To More From Concrete Blonde
    Cheers

Try 'Caroline', 'Someday?', or 'Heal it Up'. Songs that showcase Johnette's voice.

Nice callback to some stuff I haven't heard for many years. Guess I have to revisit my old record collection, Concrete Blond, Cowboy Junkies, Pixies, Violent Femmes etc.
