Surfing influenced skate moves ended after carves and shrubbery/tree barrels down sidewalks and driveways, lol! But... I kid! I do both, and I love both - and thank god, they both will always be tightly intertwined for me - the more I do of either, the better I get at both! Meanwhile, frequent doses of snowboarding are the equivalent of doing steroids to muscleheads? A little cheat code that'll pump up one's surfing/skating abilities and progression! ..or maybe I'm just starting to lose it as I get older??? Actually, I think it's cuz I haven't been doing much of either (especially surfing!!!), for far too long now, and I don't like it at all! #inlandhell
Great video. Nice to see people just riding and not trying to score points, fighting for waves, dealing with people in the way and an outside set nailing the greedy. I remember having to sneak along the railroad tracks carrying 40 lb long boards coming up from San Onofre back in the mid 60's and risking capture by the Marines. And then you could keep on going up to Cotton's (except when Nixon was there), but you also had to walk back ... I was tossed off base more than a couple of times back then. Now old(er) and having relocated to the Midwest long ago, the crowd here reminds me of Malibu back then at the same time. I blame the invention of leashes for everything that went wrong in surfing today. Kind'a anyway ;) OBTW ... Caroline Marks has really, really improved watching her over the years and I really love her style on these waves. If I still surfed, she is riding waves the same way I would want to do. I am biased though being a goofy foot ...
loved watching kalani, when i was younger..... seeing him now, having so much fun and being still so stylish and radical.... such an Inspiration....would love to catch some waves with him....
Fleabath! HAHAHA I haven't surfed there in a while, but this whole e-bike epidemic looks like it's really killed the vibe and mystique of Trestles. It's almost disrespectful to such a magical stretch of surf where now any yay-hoo can just get down there without any commitment to that walk and the journey. I miss the days where the lineup was limited by parking around Carl's unless you lived close enough to pedal bike or skate. Then on the way back up, you could only skate/bike up halfway until the hill got too steep. Just imagine what those guys who used to paddle in when it was still part of the base are thinking now!
Last time I went, I heard a surfer on an e-bike say he only came down for "a 30 minute surf!" I feel like such a chump walking the trail with a backpack and headphones.

Why ?....I surfed it from the early 90's to 2001 with only 12 guys max on the extremely crowded days.....I surfed the outside back in 1995 with just me and Gerry Lopez (with Goggles) , on a 4 to 5 foot solid South swell ....Trading off waves....The lefts wrap hard and get so good on a big day.... Very memorable epic day....🌊🏄🔥💪👊
At some point it's just not worth it. I'm from Florida so when we do get waves it's serious. I used to surf a good break in St. Augustine, but the kooks made me move south to Matanzas inlet. Surfed with Frieda Zamba there for years. So glad I got to surf before it got too crazy. I can't surf anymore because of my health problems. Surfed Pavones before it got on the internet and everybody sitting on the beach patting a foot waiting on the swell, haha!! It's not that I don't like people, but I feel better when they're not around. (Rusty)
I used to surf Lowers and Uppers back in the 70s, 80s and early 90s. When one had to hoof it (or skateboard down and hoof it back up) on the trail or walk from San Onofre. None of this riding an e-Bike which I'm sure makes the breaks more accessible thus increasing the crowds.
5:43 that kook "paddling for the shoulder" has no idea how lucky he is. He even bailed his board on a 2ft wave and it shot out the back. Gotta love Lowers.
tbf the surfer kinda kooked it on his snap and put him in a weird position. most surfers would carve down the face and be out of the dudes way, so if he paddled towards the foam he would've been more in the way for most pros. just a bad situation for all involved and it happens when it gets that crowded
The guy with the trunks over his suit is one of the best skateboarders ever. Eric Coston. He is also one of the characters in the Tony Hawk video game. Sounds unreal, it's true. Search for home. He was at his best 20 years ago.

Man I gave up the waves for backcountry powder when moving from SoCal to Colorado years ago--- miss waves like this, but not the crowds. Still have three boards collecting dust.
Just like Disney land waiting in long lines for a short ride!!!! Heading south Mexico, Costa Rica, ecuador, Peru to try and find some flealess waves!!!!

I grew up surfing in garbage waves in SC. And I also grew up playing guitar and drums...I wouldn't ever wait in line to be able to play guitar....
