It all went downhill with monetization. Just create content you want to create and let your audience find you. That's what TRUE artists do. Picasso wasn't like, "Hmmm... I wonder what people want me to paint?" Beethoven wasn't like, "Let me write some songs that people want to hear." Nah bruh. What inspires YOU? It's like that famous quote from Field of Dreams, "If you build it, they will come." Just do what you do and they will find you.

Yeah that’s all good and fine but people have bills to pay . Content (whether it’s from “passion” or for monetization) takes a LOT of time to create, execute and content creator or “influencers” have every right to be paid for it.
Yeah it sucks that some deceive their audiences for a check but MANY more do not.

Here’s my reasons why I think it died:
-We’ve seen it ALL, there’s nothing that excites me in terms of makeup looks
-I still love makeup reviews however, but it seemed like a lot of my faves stopped doing that
-the pandemic encouraged masks, which shifted beauty to the natural look and skin care, and so I feel people cared less about glam beauty
-personally I love the wig videos, as a hair girlie
-however I love the lifestyle videos too

I feel like your question shouldn’t be “what do you want to do” but “what do you want to do FIRST.” No need in limiting yourself because you have multiple talents & you can build your brand showcasing them all. Take Rihanna for example - lingerie, makeup, skincare, fragrance. Pick the first thing you want to create for your brand, set a timeline & go for it. Because we’re here for Arnell 💕

The TH-cam audience has grown up so you have to bring more value over here. The tik tok audience is generally younger so now they are coming into beauty and the world is opening back up they want to see how to quickly install a wig and get a soft no make up look or how to cook a quick dinner. They are eager to learn these things. Tik tok has some great resources to learn all kind of things and that why I’m in there. The older audience needs a little more substance and tbh I’ve noticed that even some of the vlogs I watch on TH-cam I can tell that they are tired of vlogging and really losing passion for it. So you hit the nail on the head with we can tell when people don’t want to do something. That’s when the audience transitions with you to something you love or leave because the content is not enjoyable anymore.

    • @ray9491

I was gonna say this! When I was watching TH-cam I was younger and more into beauty and learning how to do makeup. I’m older now and have responsibilities and there’s something soothing/relatable/therapeutic about watching other grown people being productive and living their best lives.

    • @leezahsmiles8673

I stopped watching hair videos because a majority of them started referencing wig brands and products that weren't affordable for me and offer few to none affordable dupes to obtain similar results. It didn't seem like a video targeted towards me. The TikTok girlies be giving me the tea on affordable wig dupes and products which actually work and I think that's why there is such a large gravitational pull to it, because videos over there tend to be unfiltered and unhinged (while simultaneously helpful) at the same time, this the same reasons I like your vlogs because it gives me the similar vibe but in an extended version. ❤️

I love this conversation! As someone that works in social media and is a content creator, this is SPOT ON. I think Rihanna did this really well for those that are multi-passionate by focusing on one thing - make that good, and then roll out the next idea. She started with makeup, moved into fragrances, and now clothing with storefronts. Ya know? Also, your point of creating content YOU like and let that specific audience find you is truly freeing. Takes the pressure off to "perform" and enjoy existing.
I'm rambling, but I really enjoyed this convo so thank you for sharing your thoughts with us.

For the TikTok content VS TH-cam content thing, I have a theory. I could be wrong but compared to TH-cam, on TikTok you don't have to look for content and physically choose to watch it like it's there you scroll the video starts and the only thing you need to do is watch or swipe, but it's easier to get someone's attention on your content. But on TH-cam, you need to be attracted to the thumbnail plus you have more of this "what do I want to watch content" on top of that there's directly "competition" with all the other thumbnails. You don't have the person directly into action like sometimes there's people's videos that I didn't intend to watch even tho I saw the thumbnail, but I accidentally click on it and end up watching the video.

You tubers like yourself, allysface and kirah just to name a few were my only outlet and beacon of hope. When I couldn’t leave the house, when I was missing home, when I couldn’t talk/see my friends, I found peace in ur channel and content. My thoughts: people were created to have multiple different interests, I feel like you shouldn’t limit yourself, if you want to make some perfume and also make some makeup products, go for it!!! For example, Jessica Simpson; she has like an apparel brand, shoe brand, Jewlery brand, fragrance brand, etc. so I think you should shoot for the stars. If you have multiple things you want to do, then do it, don’t let society get in your head saying that you can’t. When deciding always keep your thoughts at the forfront and other voices closely. 💕 Alsoooo behind every brand is people and just as people, we all have multiple different interests. For example, I watch your content because I’m interested in wigs, lifestyle vlogs, makeup, and self care. Naturally as humans, we are all multifaceted so I think it’s a benefit that you do different things because it appeals to multiple of my interests.

I think there’s need to be a healthy balance. We are getting older and trying to heal out in these streets. So creators we’ve watched for years need to evolve too. Successful relationships and healthy habits > winged eye liner and eye lashes. Butttt appearance matters (especially as a woman) and taking care of your external so I think watching lifestyle/chit chats balanced with beauty = perfect combo!

keeping yourself contained in one “niche” will limit your opportunities as a human to grow creatively, but i feel being consistent with one niche is easy to become more noticeable which leads to stagnancy and repetition, as long as people be theirselves FRFR and do whatever makes them happy, youll win in the long run, i think making other people happy or following trends is where a lot of people fall off with theirselves, which manifests

I’ve talked myself into and out of it for months now but I think your video was a sign that it’s time. Thank you for all of the content that you put out. I enjoy all of it! A lot of the influencers I watched years ago have disappeared and it’s nice that you’ve stuck around. I also like that you incorporated the vlog into your content. Girl don’t let the trends keep you from being your authentic self. You have your audience because they love you as Arnell Regardless of the content. Watching your videos among others inspired my own channel. Ultimately I feel vlogs became more popular because 1, people are nosey. 2, vlogs give aspiration to a life that followers want to live. Vlogs are basically a way for others to live by curiously, that’s why they thrive more now. However, unlike some influencers, you’re one of the few that’s actually down to earth and worth watching. Please don’t stop being you 😊

I started watching you when you did the wig videos but that’s not the reason why I stayed watching. I just loved your personality. In your q and a videos you were honest, down to earth and relatable. I do love your fashion videos and wish you did more look-books or maybe other beauty challenges that aren’t wig related.

I completely agree that Influencers should do what we are compassionate in doing on our channels. I believe that our channels will last much longer because we won’t feel pressured to do what the audience wants; it’s just my opinion.💕

    Lemme join the discourse lol
    1. I was watching makeup videos back when I had more free time. Now that I am 25 & feel good about my makeup skills, beauty videos feel kind repetitive & like a waste of time. TikTok is short & sweet so it’s different imo.
BUT, y’all are different. Both you & Alissa are innovative. Your wig series was so captivating b/c of the creativity & your personality. Just like Monet, Terrell & Zach, it’s not just generic content. It’s fun & personality.
To me, Beauty channels (& even lifestyle content) get stale quickly due to lack creativity /innovation AND no personality. Which is understandable cause creating is tiring af.
    2. You’re so right. Creators are less community based which impacts longevity & validity. I only watch vlogs of people I’m already invested in (b/c of personality or shared interest ). Building a community is by far the most important aspect & it feels like so many people miss that.
    3. Would you ever consider a mentorship program? I think you’d be a great mentor to a small group of new creators.
Waaaaaay longer than I expected but love youuuuu girl. 🤎🤎🤎

A topic I’d like to hear you talk about is manifestation, you’ve hinted at it in some vlogs and I’m intrigued to know more. Also a “strategy” for these kinds of videos would be to use the word podcast, they are essentially chitchat videos but it’s currently a buzzword. Loving your videos lately 😍🥰

I started watching your videos when you did the "watch me transform" wig series a couple of years ago. I really enjoyed your personality, and that's why I'm still here. I enjoy your vlogs because they are aspirational. I enjoy watching you just live your life. I enjoy the chit chats, it's like having a friend.
I still enjoy beauty content, but only if it's within a vlog or it's a chit chat GRWM. The reason I stopped consuming beauty content is because I honestly just find it boring.

This was an insightful video! I for one like beauty videos when combined with story time or chit chat because I already know how to do my makeup and I don’t necessarily watch to learn.
From TikTok v TH-cam, I think TH-cam is primarily where you gain a lot of loyal followers who want to see you and obtain your content outside of a 30 second video. I also used to follow the beauty community way back in 2015 and it was different compared to now but I think it’s one of those things that has to do with trends.
Last thing, what does lifestyle consist of? I feel like it’s one of those things that can consist of everything and people like it because it is versatile due to the fact that everyone’s life is different.

  • @ntanemohlala4907
    @ntanemohlala4907 2 ปีที่แล้ว +33

beauty and hair can be very repetitive so i understand why people like lifestyle content more these days- it’s a bit more spontaneous and different from creator to creator …

Arnell you are spot on. Most tik tok influencers don’t understand that they have to brand themselves/ make themselves a brand. Not everything is about numbers the part of a brand that holds a lot of importance to me is brand equity, which is the image and value that consumers have of a brand. Tik tok influencers tend to just market anything to their followers without thinking does this fit my image who I am and how people view me. For influencers you have to step back and view your page and ask what does it say about who you are or represent.

As a growing smaller creator, I really enjoyed this video. It’s always very helpful when creators who I’ve watched for years share helpful knowledge and/or their experiences in this industry. Also, when you felt like you were rambling but also mentioned “I just love this so much” I got it. Because I think as creatives we share that passion, so please if you’re up for it, continue sharing your experiences being a black creator in this industry. It’s definitely something we should do more of, just to create more solutions for issues we all may run into.♥️

I feel like speaking to the different passions: I have definitely struggled with that because like you, I am passionate about so many things! I think it all depends on the season. I mean one season you could be installing wigs on celebrities for a couple years, and then the next season you're creating your lip gloss line and get it up and running to the point that you don't have to do everything and the next season you curate your own clothing line yah know? I believe you can do it all!

I love this video! I feel like all creators have noticed some decrease in views etc. I also feel like in terms of lifestyle content ppl have already gotten tired of the “aesthetic” TikToks and content and want more of a relatable vlog, especially in today’s times. And yes, I’ve learned to be flexible with some brands because you never know the outcome of the relationship you could build. I also agree with you on creating content that YOU love and the rest will fall into place. You can never lose being your authentic self 🤍

I definitely understood everything you said in this video. I started my TH-cam channel at the beginning of this year, and I found myself comparing my success so far to what other people may have. Sometimes it's discouraging to see people gain followers, subscribers, etc. even when you're making content in the same genre, and it doesn't get as much attention.
I am thankful for the subscribers I gained over the past 6 months because I know that I have a connection to every person. I will remain consistent and be myself because that's what will get me far :)!
