    Actual Description
    As per usual, I started this video with one plan, and ended up doing something pretty different. Please note. Those of you who are sensitive may not want to watch this video, as TWO vintage Jet Ski couplers were violated in the making of this video.
    That reminds me... I needs couplers.

    Jet ski fool’s let’s begin haha 😂 nice to see some riding footage in there 👍 that air hammer trick usually works. The dang GoPro broke the coupler, yep I understand unfortunately. Crossing my eyes now, and oh yeah it worked perfectly 👍👌🍻

      HAHA. It's always tricky trying to figure out what to say at the start of a video 😂
      The air hammer trick totally worked when I tried it off camera on the broken coupler. Worked perfectly 👍The only reason it didn't work on the driveshaft is because of the type of loctite they used, and it cooled off, haha. In the end it's REALLY my fault for not being careful. I had decided I was getting new ones as they were marked up, so I kinda didn't care if they broke.
      I'm really surprised at how well it worked. I've seen Jacob talk about rethreading shafts, but on all of the forums, everyone has them cut and welded at a machine shop 🤷‍♂️

    That into is like a video game. Where's the health bar? Oh man broke the coupler! Yeah I know about that! Nice my helpful video is helpful for you. I have also had to google stuff and found videos of myself that I have to watch to figure stuff out. Man you edited enough to make the driveshaft look easy. I don't think any of my cut driveshafts even have a shoulder. Livin on the edge!

    • @JoelArseneaultYouTube
      @JoelArseneaultYouTube  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was editing... and the video intro was just me saying "hi" ... I was like ... it needs something else. That's not what my plan was at all... it just happened. Was kinda fun to make.
      I feel bad for ruining two couplers ... I'm a monster . The air hammer worked so good on the one on the engine ... instantly spun it off...After I had already broken it, unfortunately. There's no substitute for experience, they say. Any old jet skis mechanic would be like "there's permanent loctite on that driveshaft coupler, you're going to need more heat" Meanwhile there's me..... BBrRRRRRRRaAAAAAAPPPPP SNAP lol.
      I don't think making the shaft was difficult other than threading it... If I were to do it again, I would put the thread on first and then weld and make the shoulder... The shaft material was pretty easy to work with, as I'm sure you know, but the welded area was a nightmare.

  • @rickems8863

    Nice work on the intro/outro. You can get aluminum pretty hot. I'd think that you could've gotten it hot enough to spin off by hand . It should grow enough to create a gap between it and the shaft so it feels sloppy. I used to freeze my crank and heat my bearing to assemble them together, then freeze the crank with bearings and heat the cases. They'd have a super sloppy fit until they both came to room temperature , where they would become a tight press fit . Moped parts of course. lol .
    Wondering why you didn't use 1100 couplers on both sides. For strength and durability. May be slightly more sizes, requiring different size spacing?

    • @JoelArseneaultYouTube
      @JoelArseneaultYouTube  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Rick. Trying to have a little fun with the intro 👍 glad you enjoyed.
      I have done the hot cold trick many times too, it works great. My propane torch isn't the best so it doesn't heat up much or quickly and that causes a lot of the heat to go into the shaft... and that doesn't help.
      The 1100 couplers have a large thread bore so I would have had to build up the 650 shaft really large or use a 1100 shaft welded to the 650 shaft. From what I understand, this is what the majority of swapps do, but I will likely end up using two 650 couplers 👍

      @@rickems8863 I was going to say... MAPP is probably a way better idea 👍😁 I've never actually used it. People are constantly donating propane to me so I have a bunch of propane BBQ cylinders as well as the 3, 20 pound tanks, haha.
      When I worked at an actual shop, we had oxy acetylene and oxy propane ... I got pretty spoiled. I didn't mention this in the video, but I was actually going to use my tig to weld a big blob onto the back of the coupler to dump a bunch of heat into it... that would have done the trick... but I was too lazy 😂
      ... come to think of it... I actually have a mini oxy propane set up that someone gave me, just no oxygen... I should probably get some.
