Now that, Fil, is how to do an unboxing! Great detail, explanations and of course, plenty of sniffing! Looking at that chassis tub, it looks a lot like the Thunder Dragon tub, do you know if they are the same? And of course, they are definitely stickers, not dee-cals!!! 😅 Lovin this re-re kit already, it might just have to go on my long "I want" list! Great job mate, stay excellent! 😎👊👍
Thanks Mark! I think I'm going to have to dedicate an entire episode to sniffing tires, boxes, bodies, and the like... I'm going down a dark path, pal. Consider this a cry for help! Lol! 🤣🤣🤣 And you're right about the chassis. It's definitely in the Thunder Dragon/Terra Scorcher family. I'm not sure if they're 100% the same, but certainly very close. Great video again, Fil! Always a joy to watch, especially when there is some sniffing of toxic odours involved! Not a kit I'm really very interested in, but I gotta say that silver body did look pretty nice! Looking forward to watch some more of this, I think now I head over and watch Addam's take on this buggy...
Ah yes, the smell of toxic chemicals really perks a guy up when making a video, doesn't it? Haha. Addam's got his Super Sabre built already, and he's even shared some pics on Facebook with it next to his Boomerang... Ah, so nice!!! 🤩🤩🤩
Great looking kit! Mine should arrive any day now. Just built the boomerang and love it. I have an original 1987 super Sabre and looking forward to building one.
Highly entertaining unboxing Fil! 😂 Definitely relate to the box art/model shop thing.... Infact I HAVE to have the box of every car I own, I'm totally OCD about it, and have stacked them all on display in my music room, just like the model shops used to display them! Loving the multiple toots.... I could almost smell that combination of paint, plastic and rubber-- delightful! An absolute classic from the golden era there mate, don't know why but it never was as popular as the boomerang back in the eighties.... maybe people didn't like the futuristic body that was heavily influenced by all the space Sci fi that was popular back then. Funny thing is 37 years down the line and the body still looks futuristic, except in a retro way.... which is a complete contradiction in terms?! You are indeed correct regarding those gearbox's, they are bombproof, and I've seen many booma's running some hot brushless set ups! Looking forward to seeing this project progress, and seeing the running video..... you have your work cut out as you have set the bar extremely high with your last few running videos! I can't wait to see the sticker compilation when she's ready for presentation. 👊🏼😎 As for the Super Sabre, yeah that body sure is something, isn't it? Sharp angles, a big spoiler, cab-forward design, it's the 80's interpretation of 2020 cars, but the designers were high on aquanet hairspray and hopped up on Pepsi Clear. Lol! What a beauty!!! 🤩🤩🤩 Hope you're having a great weekend, pal. Cheers! 🍻
Thanks for that comment, that was a great way to start my Saturday! 😉 I think our Prime Minister is gonna start taxing us on esc's and oil filled shocks now, so maybe it's best we don't get them in these kits... lol! 🤣🤣🤣
Awesome video again, Fil. I absolutely love that car. That's the kit that my Late mom and I picked out for my younger brother when he was 15. Back when there were local hobby shops in the area. I will definitely be getting one once I free up some space in Fab-Lab. Aka "The Faboratory ". Great sniff by the way.
Isn't it amazing how these kits bring back all these great old memories? Ah, I love it! Good luck in the Fabratory this weekend, my man! Hopefully you can get some laps turned on the track! 😉🍻
Yeah it's a little nutty, but I run it on the sand, so there's a good degree of forgiveness there. Plus, all that power kicks up the sand like crazy! It looks so good! 👌😆
So want to get this for my collection too. It will go great with my Boomerang & Thunder Dragon. Running a brushless 10.5T motor in my Thunder Dragon and holding up to the torture no problem. For anyone who wants to customize a body, Team Blue Groove sells replacement Lexan Super Sabre body & wing. Nothing wrong with having a spare body along with MCI racing custom decals. If you want cut out stickers, need to get Kyosho. ;)
Ah, it'll be right at home sitting next to its Boomerang and Thunder Dragon cousins. This whole lineup of Tamiya 4WD buggies are all so iconic. 🔥 Great tip on the TBG/MCI idea, too! A guy could really make the SS body look killer with some custom paint! 👊🏼🍻
Tamiya box art is a thing of beauty and so is the body, some I like painted but good the Squash van did not. You are right, put the new ESC in as they are a slightly better version of the 1060wp it can take a lower turn motor. I'm lucky the company I use have had a ESC option for a long time and always Hobbywing as I did not like the Tamiya 02 ESC setup. I have a Boomerang so the same and a Thunder Dragon so I kind of like the Dragon a little better.
I'm with you there, not a big fan of the Tamiya esc's. The last two I had went up in smoke, and I'm not sure why? The HW1060 is perfect for these cars. 😉👊🏼
sniff...sniff..sniff...ahhhh..wish i didn't have a cold to enjoy smellavision once it is finally invented. great unboxing! was wondering if you have ever used a Traxxas Titan 12T in one of your builds? I have a spare one in good order so perhaps I might put it in my Subaru Brat when I"m ready to build it. Also, the Brat kit came with both the hard plastic and lexan bodies along with an ESC so it's a good bang for the buck if you can get one. cheers and see you in the next vid!
You need to buy a 2023 Super Sabre, the smell of paint and tires will clear up those sinuses in no time! Hahaha! I don't think I ever have used the Traxxas 12T in any builds... I'm thinking back, and I think that's a motor that's eluded me all these years. It'll get the Brat moving, I'm sure! -- I bought one a few years ago, with the hard blue body and spare lexan one. The blue body took me longer to paint all the details (lights, trim, etc...) than a lexan body would, lol! 😆👊🏼
Excellent video again keep’em coming👍 any more power than the standard silver can you might want to change the pinion gear for hardened steel the standard kit pinion is made of cheese😊!
Wish the wheels were chrome like the box... But, pre-paintted body is awesome! I have already ordered a 4000kv HW brushless set up, and an aluminum prop shaft and cups. The coat hanger thing bugs me, for some reason. Also, ordered an aluminum strengthener for the front suspension where it connects to the gearbox.

Growing up in N. Ireland in the late 60's and early 70's I watched 'Whirly Birds' and 'Skippy the Bush Kangeroo' on a black n white telly.😂 Luckily that had no effect on my first forays into RC, which were the original Sand Rover followed by the Super Champ. You had to be commited to the hobby back then because swapping out the 380 mabuchi for a 540 in the Sand Rover meant that your run time dropped from about 15 minutes to 5, and gear's in the open top gearbox lasted little longer. The 5cell NiCd took 18hrs to charge for those 5 mins of ecstacy. Commited? I should have been! 🤪🤣 Subaru and Yamaha have been my full size vehicles of choice for years, so perhaps Tamiya have been more of an influence on me than I've realized.
