Nice work on the guide Fil and good result at the end too. A couple of little bits that I might be able to add, Tamiya do make the vinyl lining tape (white in colour) in several different thicknesses, 2,3 and 5mm I believe though there may be more. I've used the 2 and 3 which work well. Another little tip which I am in the habit of doing, after I've done my masking and lining and I'm at the painting stage I put down a couple of light coats of PS55 clear. That way if there are any bleed throughs its likely to be filled with clear before you get going with the colour.
Now this is about the only time that a male should be seen at the kitchen sink!!😂 Very enjoyable video Fil, great for seasoned modelists and beginners alike. Man,you certainly didnt make that easy for yourself by using so many different colours, but it certainly turned out delightful! And,it came together beautifully once the decals were applied. Custom paint jobs are highly rewarding, but very time consuming. Taking your time is essential, too many people try to rush the process. Some great tips in there, especially the 'inhalation' of paint fumes.....DONT paint in your bedroom with all the windows shut!!!😮 Been there, didnt do me any good at all!🤢🤕🤧 Tamiya masking tape is very good,i also have had great results with the Tamiya curved masking tape. Top job bro! 🙏 😊 👍 👍
Time consuming, indeed, my friend. And I find as I get older, my patience for complex paint jobs is thinner and thinner, lol! But I'm happy we got this one done, it looks great. Thanks for watching, my friend!
Painting can be the most intimidating part of the hobby but proper prep work and some patience is all that is needed for great results. I like how you showed that you don't have to have a fully fleshed out plan to do it either, just make it up with what you have! it turned out really cool and a true one of one paint scheme!
great work! Another step i like to add before peeling the outside film is to cut out the body lines and spray from the outside. That or they also have thin black body line tape for after. That could really make your multicolor panels pop! Loved the video
A most excellent paint tutorial, Fil! Packed full of great tips and sage advice, I've done a few bodies in my time and as you say, you definitely learn from your mistakes! And now you have passed on all that knowledge so anyone watching can avoid those mistakes, great job my man! 😎🙌👍
Thanks, Mark! Painting bodies can be a bit intimidating. And to this day, probably the question I get asked most is with regards to paint. Thats why we took a deep dive in this video. Cover all the bases (hopefully). The end result was super cool, I love it. Thanks for watching, my friend! 👊🏼🍻
@@MarkBryanRC Thanks, pal. I'm really happy with how it came out. The blue is a little too dark, but other than that, I'm really quite pleased with it. It looks great on the chassis. :)
Turned out great fil and keep can in warm water between spraying to stop the paint from thickening back up and clean spray tip in between spraying and to find overspray spots hold white paper up to the body...Great video as always .
Wow, Fil! 🎨✨ This video is incredibly detailed and well-explained-every single step is covered so clearly. You’ve turned a plain transparent body into an absolute masterpiece! 👏 The tips and tricks you shared are super helpful for anyone looking to tackle their own custom paint job. This livery came out stunning, and I’m sure it’s inspiring a lot of RC enthusiasts to get creative with their own shells.
Thank you so much! It was a bit of a wild ride, not really knowing how it would turn out, but the process worked and the end result was a really fun, unique body that definitely POPS! :)
Very nice step by step walk through video Phil! And your theme turned out great! I actually really dig it! Can’t wait to see it on the car and more video’s!
Good gob on this one, I too have painted auto body and use 3m products for masking. Above all else, take your time. Don't be afraid to change your mind. Also, it's OK to walk away for a few minutes if your getting frustrated.
Good point! Take your time, and don't be afraid to change your mind. Those are key elements. I think a lot of us feel we have to have the perfect idea in mind, and the perfect application, but just like in my video, in reality, we kinda roll with the punches and see where it takes us
Ohhh! At first I was like -Ewwww, but once the decals and plastics came on... It really pops now. So original too. Although the Quebec company Couche Tard just bought 7/11, I'll let this one slide as it is now a Canadian company :) Great work!
Great tutorial! One trick to seal masking is to spray a layer or two of the Tamiya matte clear to seal the mask...oh wait...we won't be able to buy that paint in Canada soon. Never mind! 😋 OnPoint do a clear matte too. Have you ever tried spraying smoke over the scuffed windows?
@@poorboysrc I know what you mean! I am of two minds on this....the scuffing will show or like when clear-coating over sanded resin or previous layers of varnish, the clear-coat fills in all the scratches and they essentially disappear. Experiment time!
If I scuff my body I always clean it with some 99.9% isopropyl alcohol just to get it super clean. I like painting, but the masking part can be a bit finicky. Phil's skills are paying the bills 🍻
no way i could do that..all that masking and prep..i don't have the patience to do that sort of thing so i just keep mine basic..however, great and informative vid for those that do have that time and patience and have that attention to detail! nice long vid Fil and it will help inspire others to try with your tips and tricks. was that the wifey singing the washing the body song? if so, she has a great voice! hahaha! see you soon bud. cheers.
