    If I was gonna buy a new CB, I’d definitely get a President CB based on all the reviews you’ve done on em. They look well built and haven’t seen a bad review from what I’ve seen. My newest CB is a Cobra 25 LTD built in 1999 and still works like a champ.

    I have been watching several of your videos on TH-cam and I appreciate the fact that you go over all the features of the radio's and the fact that you do not over inflate the power output and other functions of the radio's. Watching you reminds me of watching the only guy in my area that I trust and let touch my radio's. For that a huge thank you. I have 3 galaxy 979 AM/SSB radio's that my dad and I have used for many years now. My problem is the new cars don't have much room to mount a CB. The AM/FM radio's seem to be tied into the cars computer system so it's not easy to pull one and swap it out for a single din radio where I could mount a cb below it. Anyway I appreciate that you are not over inflating the amount of power they can put out and not try and push swing kits that for a second or two it hits a hi power then drops off or push them so when you key up it goes to 6 watts but immediately starts to drop power and heat up. It's been a little while but how is your Mckinney holding up? Also length is not much of a problem for me. How are there mag mount antennas? I exclude the NY shorty. I know they (extend the warranty if you buy a antenna from them. In the past I used Hustler mag mounts but after a year or so they would get water damage. I bought a little wil but it didn't get used enough to see how long it would last. I always made out best with a 4 foot firestick with tunable tip. But the single firestick magnet wouldn't hold at highway speeds without the light duty spring. I guess I am just asking for suggestions. The car manufacturer says 100 watt max for any transeverse. Thank again for the great videos and informationx and any advice you can pass along.

    Hello all, I've been trying to get a cb station set up for a while now, but due to dozens of eye surgeries it's been difficult to keep our heads above water and vision clear-ish...
    I enjoy cb and ham radio, I've been studying to get my ham license but want to get on the air with cb before I go blowing money on ham equipment.
    I enjoy your videos very much and you have been helpful with teaching me stuff I didnt know existed like skip and ssb. Thank you.

    I wonder is somebody out there can help me figure out the model of radio I saw back in the day. I believe it was a Midland brand, but as it's been like 50 years ago, I'm not absolutely sure. The mic was also the speaker, and had some radio controls on it, but I don't remember what, volume I'm sure, but I don't know if it had anything else. The base radio was pretty much like any mobile radio of the day. However it had some interesting features that came with it. It came with a battery pack and antenna for using it as a walkie, with a case and strap so you could hang it from your shoulder, but it also had a plug in power supply (I think it also charged the battery pack) with an antenna that would work indoors to make it into a sort of base unit. Kind of the Swiss Army knife of radios. Never saw another one, nor identified the model. I don't know when it was made, but I saw it and used it some in either the late 60's or early 70's, time plays tricks on the exactness of my memory. A gal I knew back then had it in her 68 Charger, which was a fairly new car then, but she also used it in her motel room.

    • @FarpointFarms
      @FarpointFarms  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It sounds a lot like the modern Midland one hander they sell. I had two older one handers that were similar, but didn't have the battery option. The cobra 75 and the midland.... I can't remember, but I made videos of both, as well as a video that covered that style of radio. Search for "One hander" CB's and it should pop up.

    • @tootall5559
      @tootall5559 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@FarpointFarms This was nothing like the ones they show now. You did have to change the channel like with a regular mobile radio, I recall that much. The battery/power supply was in the case, you slid it into the case and it connected with pins or something When out of the case, it looked much like a regular mobile. I have to think its a rare bird, being the only one I ever saw. I never saw it in stores. For all I know, it could have been some prototype that never made the open market in the US. It was made in Japan of course. Might have been bought there. As my friend traveled the world a lot. I don't think the battery option was that great of an idea at that time, it was very heavy with the battery and it didn't last all that long without a recharge. Probably more like a car battery than anything else, since only that and dry cells were available at that time. Dry cells simply wouldn't last at all. Anyway, it was the most interesting CB I ever saw outside of a Browning Double Eagle base station.

      Dude get the Lincoln 2+ v3 I got it and has AM FM upper and lower side band and CW. It's easy to put in half watt 1k ohm resistor to unlock frequency range it will then go from 24.7 MHz to 30.1 MHz and the channel selector acts as a VFO once you get it near the frequency or in the band you want it push it in it clicks and the dash line will go under the digit you want to adjust it has a six digit frequency counter and it completely adjustable down to a single hertz. It's an excellent radio if you have a budget of about 240 dollars. And also has a variable power adjustment down to between a quarter and half watt.

    • @spankthemonkey3437
      @spankthemonkey3437 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Also the Lincoln 2+ will do 30 watts right out the box take out the limiter it will do 45 to 50 watts depending on your swr. I've been swinging to 45 watts into an RM Italy for a year and half with mine plus the amp has taken a beating from other radios since 2014 but the RM Italy KL 200p I have has the real deal Motorola mrf 455 pill type transistor it's alot better than the mosfets version which is the 203 p. If you get an RM Italy 200 p now I'm not sure what transistor you will get but it should be a pill type might be like a 2290 or something.

    I always had mixed feelings about these cheap, so called entry level AM only CB’s. If you want to use a CB in my area ( western Canada) an SSB capable rig is essential. I can communicate with 3 other CB’ers up to 50 miles apart on channel 38 in sideband mode. Our local Canadian Tire department store (Still) sells a Uniden AM only CB and even sells those cheesy laughable emergency roadside CB’s since they would be totally useless over hear or most other places for that matter. I do feel these (still abundant) cheap AM radios have (in a way ) contributed to CB’s decline in popularity.
