    Great video James. Really glad to have you back in Cities Skylines. To help you avoid traffic cutting through your new district (Garnet district) unnecessarily, you can turn on the old town policy on the district. This policy allows the traffic to not go through the district, but rather stay on the highway (as it's supposed to). Just make sure that your bypass road behind the district, going to the schools, is not in the Garnet district, otherwise it will not be used as intended.
    I use the old town policy quite often in my cities, because it only allows residents, workers, and deliviry vehicles, delivering goods to buildings in that district, to enter the district, and dissallows cut throughs.
    Hope you find this helpful and keep up the great content :)

    Trees placed by the player (not on the roads) DO help with noise, but you need a lot of them for it to be noticeable! You probably don't have enough room next to that new train station at the end of the video. I've tested it a bit in my game, you also need to wait a minute for the red noise map to update after you place the trees.

    Since you added the post depot maybe an actual post office would help with the land values in the port area? One in the new high residential area too. I think there are low noise train stations in the work shop, other wise it's an annoyance. I hope in CS II they add some sort of noise resistant setting to buildings, add a policy or something.

    @Milena-ek6gm 2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

    1:02:00 maybe you can put a district policy like old town or smth that bans trucks on those roads so they won't take them

  • @NethDugan
    @NethDugan 2 ปีที่แล้ว +22

    You're the reason I bought this game, so it's always nice seeing you post a new vid of it.
    ETA: - The port area needs fire and police etc services.
    ETA2: maybe reduce road speed on that area where they are going off highway through residential and back onto highway. If the residential road is low enough that ought to maken it a less desirable route.

    28:31 the traffic coming towards the camera from this angle could probably dip into a small tunnel under the rails to connect back up at the toll booth, and thus would avoid that elevated intersection, since it seems a lot of traffic comes from that direction.
    Also: please consider doing a freight yard and maintenance facility in the long empty rectangle by the intercity cargo station, where you’ve got that gap between the mountain and the offices. It would be a great spot for trains to shunt cars into/out of the port (though of course no such mechanic exists but still). You could even add another freight station to relieve some of the pressure on the other one in the city.

  • @KingSNAFU
    @KingSNAFU 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    28:50 I would add emergency services (fire, police). I would add a jitney bus line to serve the Port area. All would fit the area. A small plaza for the workers in the area might also be a good idea.

    Another way to change the roads at stations is to use the network multitool and unlock the segments you want to change. You should then be able to upgrade them like other roads and then you can lock them back!

    Last traffic problem you had is because the most left lane coming from the beginning cant easily merge (only one node I think, but because its busy, they just cant or it would be faster the other way)
    You can remove the traffic controller from the first node and if the problem still occurs I would slow down the through route they are taking.

    35:15 I think that's a great idea and a very nice spot for the zoo. With all the pathways along the river you could add it could be a very "close to nature" zoo with stunning views, lots of free spaces between the habitats and still be very close to the downtown. :)

    On right-hand-traffic the vehicles leave cargo-hubs the other way. they always go the direction which is the closest to the exit. so you can feed the hubs with traffic from the right and they leave to the left and both streams don't cross their ways.

    I have a question: are you using the highways with the soundproof walls near the living areas? If not, that could help with the noise. Otherwise I am pretty sure that some trees help, at least that is what I experienced in my game. But I think it was only the very large trees. :)

    james, the noise thing, you've got forests locked in tree anarchy mod, maybe that's affecting the trees' dampening effect? also, you can use tree lined roads, but set the trees to none with the road customisation mod (I forget the name), so they're only grass lined?

    If you're still looking for suggestions for the hill, where the old mansions were situated:
    Maybe you could get inspired by the hills of Santiago de Chile. They have hills all around the city, which are big hilly parks with stones and footpaths, sometimes with old castle-ruins and a lot of different plants.
    Just look it up, if you could maybe like it.
    Great series, thank you for the content.
    Greetings from Germany.

    for the cargo train station at 22mins ... perhaps consider an outbound connection directly onto the highway instead of off of it. this would allow you to make the other intersection (where you mention traffic lights) a left hand turn only.

  • @nour.ismail

    There's a mod that cancels the effects of sound polution which to me makes sense because someone buying an apartment or house by a trainline would expect noise.

  • @erinparisienauthor
    @erinparisienauthor 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    The whole "oh the train station/metro station/any access to public transport" is too noisy game mechanic is so dumb! As if, in real life, buildings with access to these services aren't prime real estate. And, as someone who used to live next to a LRT station and line, I can promise, it's not that big a deal.

    18:50 Just a critic like that... You like up those trailers perfectly. In real life, there is absolutely nothing that is perfectly lined up. Lining them up might look good, but it makes that location feel much more artificial.

  • @jspihlman
    @jspihlman 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I really like the rail lines to nowhere. If you look at American railroads there are definitely spurs that used to go to warehouses, industrial areas, grain elevators, mines, etc. which, because the industry/commercial left or they switched to shipping by truck, they now just go nowhere.

    I live near a station and they aren't loud because trains aren't speeding through them. A school I went to was right next to a railway (no station, just a high speed rail) Now thát was loud! Whenever a train passed the teachers just pauzed mid-sentence until it was gone, because there was no way people could hear them. I hope you can find a mod in which you can tinker with those settings for stations. This makes no sense.
