I had the same issue with a chassis that I was working on, thinking since the ic was new it was good…. After 5 hrs I tee we Alize’s the ground was in the wrong spot as you mentioned. Glad you did a vid, as most of these ic’s are counterfeit garbage!!! Very common
Hi Mike, thanks for your great video. As for desoldering gun I have the same and use it for years. Needs to change the pads frequent (on the gun and on the connection with the main unit) and check if the pump is strong enough. Remove the glass tube on the gun and put you finger on the side where it sucks air. It might needs to fix the pumper in the main unit.
Smeggin awesome repair sir ! A combination of a copper coin inside the centre of the glass barrel & welding torch tip cleaner's (as another viewer recommended) has been saving my ass on my zd-552 desoldering gun.
@@MikesArcadeMonitorRepair wow, I never had that issue but I definitely don't do as much desoldering as you do. BTW you're doing the Lord's work with these videos. I'll never have to fix any of these monitors but it sure helps to dispell the "magic" behind the functionality in general.
Sad about the counterfeit ICs. If the IC were flipped upside down, then the ground would be on pin 5. Wondering if the entire pinout is reversed somehow. Probably not worth the risk of testing just to blow something else out, but curious.
Hey Mike, I love your videos, they are really helpful, I'm learning a lot! I recently bought an used aracde, in almost perfect condition, except that it worked only for couple of hours after I installed at my garage, then, a burn smell came out of the cabinet... anyway, I was attempted to fix on my own after seeing your videos, but I didn't wanted to take the risk, and I wanted to see if you can help me with this. It's a wei-ya C3125b1. Thank you!
@@MikesArcadeMonitorRepair Thank you fo aswering! I can't find a place to contact you with more details and address to send you the parts. I believe its the same, or very similar to the one you once fixed in this video: th-cam.com/video/CgBcTBbbQGo/w-d-xo.html
I was watching one of your videos while fixing a U5000 with verticle collapse, and it seems my "new" tda 1771's ground are one pin off or maybe backards?
If the ground is not on pin 5, it’s a fake. It should be the same as what I show in this video. The TDA1771 and the pinout is the same across the U2000/U5000/K7400/K7500.
Not sure why you are having bad luck with your desoldering gun. I use mine A LOT and haven't had it clog up on me. I do have to clean it every so often or it's not as effective, but doesn't clog. I have an FR301 and I run mine at "2" on the dial. I also went to 1.3mm tip rather than the default tip of 1.0mm.
@@MikesArcadeMonitorRepair I've also ran into that issue before, I think what's helped me get past it is I now baby it as I use it. Every 10 or so solder joints I check the sponge to make sure it's still moist and run my cleaning rod through the gun to clear out anything that could start a clog. I have much better luck now, really seems to just need extra TLC to keep em in tip top shape. I also always apply fresh leaded solder to joints before desoldering, which helps a ton. I did a keyboard mod recently where I replaced every switch and LED which ended up being about 700 solder joints that I refused to try and do with braid, which really helped in figuring out how frequently I needed to clean it out and wet the sponge.
I have the same desoldering gun. I used it a bit, but it finally clogged. It didn't clog every time like yours. I think that's just the nature of the beast with these guns.
That’s where I got mine as well and I sent them all back and wrote at length that they are no good, surprisingly they’re still selling these? Very disheartening!!!!
Hey Mike I love your content...just subscribed to your channel. I was wondering if you could help me out. I have a Silver strike bowling with WGM2574 standard res monitor. The bottom half of my screen seems to be shrunk versus the rest. I can take some pictures to send to you if you don't mind. Let me know if you can help out and point me in the right direction. Thanks and keep putting out great content.

Thank you. Interesting.
Can you explain further?
I use a manual solder sucker I bought at a yard sale for $3 and it seems to function better than your desoldering gun.
Yeah, I’m not a fan of those because they can sling solder around and create bridges when not used properly.

Counterfeiting jerks... Your remark did give me a good laugh tho, I want McD's for dinner tonight now but without ripping people off lol

@@MikesArcadeMonitorRepair yeah... i realised it from your video saying only one pin should be shorted to ground... and sure enough... pin 6 is ground
I am curious if it would work installed backwards... but not curious enough to damage my board
Safe to say…no.

Me either. I’ve bought 3 and they all see to clog up on each use.

True
Will be interesting to hear what the owner says about that chip.🤨
He got it from Marco Specialties. I have already contacted them.

Greetings. Thanks. Sounds like a vertical linearity issue. There’s no adjustment for that on the 7400 unfortunately. Cap kit is step #1.
@@MikesArcadeMonitorRepair where can i get a cap kit? Does it show you which caps to change?
Yup.
