I've always said that pouring is the easy part. The prep and framing are the true difficult parts that require attention to detail and knowledge to successfully pull off. The difference between a long lasting job and one that does not is proper prep work. Awesome video and great job guys!
@@Burago2k You would be surprised the amount of contractors who prioritize the finishing over subgrade prep. Many people don't realize there are so many steps before pouring that require a bunch of attention to detail. This is why I watch their videos. They do everything right from beginning to end.
I like how you are always thinking ahead about the ground water affecting the concrete. And the different ways of removing the problem through catch basins and drainage pipes. Great job by you and the crew.
I smile a little when I recall when you guys were going to start making videos. My first thought was “Wow, that might be a little boring”. Well, it’s been awhile that I’ve been that wrong on something. I’m riveted to these excellent videos!
Super video as usual. Great to watch pros at work. You got a great crew obviously. I would love to work on one of your jobs but I guess since I am 76 and live in Italy, that isn't going to happen.
Will there be a part 2 to this one? The level of detail is fantastic. Right.down the the tiny triangle wedge on the foot path leading the the stairs. The pattern is perfect match with the rest if the path albeit so little.
Hi Tom and the Hauses crew. I came over from the Morgans to check out your other work, and it definitely is a quality job your provide. The Morgan’s place just looks fantastic. I was wondering a couple things about the prep work and was hoping to get a bit of your expertise in the concrete area. I see you use mesh type rebar as opposed to creating a mesh with the rebar, is there a difference in your opinion? On the same note, I’ve always made sure that the rebar was elevated with slip sleeves in the form boards to allow for expansion. Lastly does your concrete have a tendency to have stress cracks and is there anything that can be done to prevent them? I just had my driver way poured and one of the slabs, a 12x12 just stress cracked right down the middle. Did not move but for a new job, I can’t say that I’m really impressed with the concrete mix. Thanks and will be following you along with my friends who love this stuff too!
What product do you guys use for your bendable forms? To make your radius. Also thanks for the paint strainer tip, we struggle with cleaning our sprayers. (Always clogging up). We use mineral spirits to clean out, but always a struggle.😡 Thanks for another informative video.
pvc pipe should use primer for a better bond I usually drop my pipe in the ground and then put stone on and pull the pipe up into the stone and set the grade slope.
Hey Tom, how do you decide where to put your control cuts? And how do you decide when you make them (when the concrete is still curing vs. waiting for it to harden and saw cutting afterward)?
Is there a way for you to ID the follow-up video for your many two and three-part project videos. Like maybe naming them All The Work That Goes in Before 2? I can't find the final pour video for this one at any rate. Great vids BTW!! Keep it up
Nice work, as per your usual, great crew. I was curious about the stone. It looks like it had no “fines” in it, is that how you are able, to not have to plate compact it...? Thank you.
That’s correct if it has fines you have to compact it 2 B lime stone needs no compaction and drains really good locks better together than just gravel Thanks for watching
@@Concretewiththehauses well you see, I always say I learn something new everyday... I am 58yrs young..., now I know it all... hahaha...! Thank you for the reply back.
SDR 35 sewer pipe is as strong as schedule 40 , no need for gluing joints for sdr 35 and in winter glue joints will break because of freezing and this why schedule 40 isn.t used outside
TOM, I got a porch and sidewalk that was never sealed, poured about 3 maybe 4 summers ago. Got a crack in the 8x20 pad that I gotta fix then seal, cause the broom finish holds the dirt and is stained. I'm gonna power wash it again then seal it. The contractor left me some 'Diamond Clear Vox' sealer from the patio pour he did last month to use on it, but I see that it is for fresh concrete tho. Any recommendations to what I can use? Is this stuff OK? I know you're in the business to make money, but can you give me some advice? Thanks. Much appreciated. Letting you know, yinz really pay attention to detail, just wish I could of had yinz do my job!
Hi John thanks for watching diamond clear is a good product put it on and two light coats if the product is older than six months I would suggest getting a new can and as far as the crack we use a product from Home Depot it is called crack filler it comes in a squeeze bottle shake it real good and you can put it on slowly and neatly and wipe clean.you did mention it was stained this is just gray so be careful you don’t want good luck if you need any more advice give a call tom
@@Concretewiththehauses TOM !! Thanks for replying! As far as caulking, I used 'Tremco Dymonic FC' when I caulkedthe expansion joint at the block wall after the patio pour. Used limestone color, tooled it in with wet finger, then sprinkled play sand almost a perfect color match! Ordered a diamond grinding wheel 'crack chaser' to repair front porch crack. SERIOUSLY, thanks for your channel, I learned SO much about concrete, yinz really helped me out! Especially when you personally commented before to me about rebar, wire, and fibercrete! I'm sharing your channel with others cause it's interesting, and informative! Keep growing!! And again... THANK YOU!!!!!

and concrete over pavers!
A big job for hard, professional workers! 👍👍👍
Can't believe you are that calm with concrete coming the same day. You can hear years of experience just in the tone of your voice

To me thats obvious, and yeah, a lot of jobs are more difficult prepping than actually starting

More and more complex, good timing for the half crew showing up, great drainage fix
You and your crew made that look awful easy. Great job.
A lot of thought and planning goes into these projects. Your experience and expertise shows.
Do you ever use a plate compactor to firm up the base material, before pouring the concrete? Thanks.
your work always looks fantastic
I'm aware others have said the same thing but, I have to say Tom that you have a superb mukti-skilled, multi-tasking team.
Great job as usual, enjoyed the explanation and thought that goes into the preparation!

The owner might consider connecting that garage downspout to yo your catch basin. Schedule 40 4” along drive is doable.

Amazing Teamwork💪
Part of why I like listening to you and Mike Morgan is that I miss that Western Pa. accent!!
Great video
what can you put on existing sidewalks to prevent me from power washing every year. Something to seal it to prevent them from darkening up.
I noticed that you don’t use any stands ( either pieces of cement bricks or actual plastic stands )to raise the rebar ?
Good thing you were there to eliminate primer.
A money making day I,d say. Looks nice.

Great work. I only wish you were in CT so I could hire you and your team. What material/board do you use for those curved walkway forms? Thanks!
Is it worth putting a sealer on a side walk ?
I am always shocked by how little most people think about elevation. So easy to get right before you start, HARD to fix after.
Good Work

Nice job ! Just curious why you didnt tap the stone in the sidewalk ?
I dug down the solid ground and filled with 2B lime stone so no need for compaction Thanks for watching
Why would you need a expansion down the center
have you ever done a driveway and made the concrete black like a paved driveway?
Why , just why
Trying to understand why there's expansion felt between the two slabs..
That allows the concrete to move a little overtime without harming the other pad
What forms do you use for curves?
It is called azacit’s just a plastic trim board that we use you can get at Home Depot or pretty much any lumber store
Anyone else also watch the Gate City Foundation Drainage channel?
Hovis Auto!!
👍
Why is the writing up good practice?
If getting inspected the inspector can see what kind of pipe it is I just like the writing up
One other little reason it helps you line up the fittings when putting together
Thank you
