@@Buc5054 because the hype I heard over it, I was thinking it would be spectacular and it’s just mid for me. Bardstown Origin series goes for the same price and is way better, more developed. IMO of course
The joys of bourbon is you can take this list (and should) with a grain of salt! Everyone has their own palate - and I loved Green River's FP offering. Been snagging up their single barrel/barrel proof offerings as of late. Smokeye Hill was set up for failure since the beginning, not sure if it was a paid advertisement or what.. .but that claim set them up for failure.
Let's be real... Hipster Brewzle was a savage comment... Anywho... they all can't be winners! Here's some releases that just missed the mark for me in 2024! What were some of yours?
Dude, how does Green River Fp which you rated an 84 and under 50 bucks end up on this list? Heart Release was pretty solid, even though I don’t enjoy wheaters.
Cellar Aged 2024 and OGD 16 year were on my flop list as well. My other big disappointment was Little Book The Infinite...It was/is a great pour, however the price is what did it for me. I enjoyed Booker's The Reserve much more for the price, than I did the infinite. But of course, just my personal opinion!
I agree on the 1924 and the smoke eye. 1924 is not worth it but still has a huge fan base with that crazy proce point. And anytime I hear " (insert bottle) killer" the result is usually disappointing.
I’m bummed that other peoples hype (not even the company) ruin your opinion on the Smokeye. I enjoyed it for the price. Aside from that, I agree with the list minus makers. Loved heart release and lost recipe
@@nateap88 I’ve heard lost recipe is better than the heart, haven’t tried it. As for Smokeye, if it wasn’t for Minnick’s hype job, most people would never have even heard about this bottle, so it’s a two edged sword. Problem was they put it on a pedestal that it should never have been on. It’s good, not great, it has potential, just needs more age.
Got reasonably lucky with a OGD16 at $140--my personal opinion is that it's pretty decent at that price and no more. Suntory majorly messed up on the pricing of this bottle; of course we're still seeing this being sold at MSRP but I'm also seeing this sold at far lower prices to offload the cases these stores have received. Similarly, OF 1924 is too expensive at $115 or whatever the MSRP is--but I differ with you in that I think this bottle is FANTASTIC--outside of it admittedly being too low of proof. I love the nose, the taste is fantastic but the body is a let-down, and I really love the finish of this bottle as well. Pricing this over $100 is a mistake, and good luck getting it even at MSRP.
Agree with the OGD16. Did snag one at $160 otd so taking the L hurt a bit less. But Im not sure where that MSRP came from...two years less age but same proof as Knob 18 warrants a $25 increase? And its less good..idk..meh. Another one to throw in there is Woodinville 8 year. Craft bomb. The first in a three part verticle that features a different mash than thier regular bourbon as well as an increased oak stave drying time and long toast, light char to go along with it does produce some very pleasant aromas and then hits a hard U turn with craft grain dominating the mid-palate and finish. $130+ and I imagine a price tag that will increase with 2025s 9 year and 2026s 10 year releases I am already jumping off this train. Sorry Woodinville, but I do like your other stuff!
the 20 list was bourbons that I scored throughout the year. "Flopped" because I thought it would have been better than it actually was. Blind scoring tells all the truth.
You lost me by saying EC barrel proof almost made the list. EC is still better than Buffalo Trace series and it is findable. Guess you are just another that cannot go angaist the hype
Did you hear what I said though, ALMOST because they were riding such a high from the C923 that I feel each release was a little bit "boring" if you will? Don't get me wrong, ECBP is still IMO one of the best releases of the year and some of the best value as well, I was just hoping they were gonna really go nuts with it.
@ there again I thought B524 was better then C923. Still better than the over hyped Buffalo Trace products. Both beat Stagg and EH Taylor. In my opinion. But people like you are to afraid to say that cause all those that think BT is the end all. That is why it is so over hyped.
