Growing up, I was part of church choir. You feel every word you sing in a praise song which makes commune with God so solemn and meaningful. Other than music is imbedded in the culture, I think it's also the reason why the priests and nuns in the Phils do sing (not just during mass but even just chilling out). It's a norm that if you don't have radio or music in the background while you work, you hum or sing to make work a lot easier and fun.
You will see this mostly in schools, churches, sometimes in hospitals, weddings, and even when mourning for the dead you will luckily see Filipinos sing.
Plus, everyone is encouraged to sing even if they sound bad. I heard a Filipino who is a Really bad singer, as in her tone is really off. But she was still encouraged to sing by her family and friends, hahaha.
everytime i watch this channel i always realize how we're often taking advantage of things because it's so normal for me for priests to have good voices 😅
We are just so used to people singing, whether or not they are priests, school boys/girls,etc. that we dont realize it is not the same in other countries.
AFAIK, singing is also studied in the seminaries in the Philippines since some of the psalms in a mass were sung. Most PH priests study church songs and their vocal ranges were also determined. Some seminaries include forming a choir as part of the extra curricular activities.
There are additional sections in the mass during a wedding. It’s like when there is a baptism it’s not just the basic mass. And it’s also possible that the priest, would have done it during the sermon while talking to the bride and groom
I was not surprised too. 'Coz when the priests sing hymns here during mass, they dont sing it just for the sake of getting it out of the way coz it's part of the service, they genuinely sound really good. Thinking about it, I realize music also plays a really big part in religion here. Every time I meet a pastor's kid here, it's gonna be safe to assume that that kid can sing like an angel. 😌
When u go to a mass in the Philippines and the choir is compose of seminarians, u got a mass made in heaven with angels singing! 😂 so a singing priest in the Phils. is not a big surprise as they are already made🎉 salute to our priests💗💗💗🇬🇧
Yes 👍 Priests in The Philippines 🇵🇭 sing well! I saw them 2 tears ago when I was there. I saw 👀 Filipino priests sing well in Vancouver, Canada 🇨🇦, my hometown area the San Francisco Bay Area 🌉 and throughout the USA 🇺🇸.
Not only Catholic Priests but Protestant Pastors also sing during service. Music is part of the curriculum that Protestant Pastors in the Philippines study, and yes that includes playing instruments.

I believe most of us learn to sing in the church...I reminiscing I'm youth..we have a youth mass...attended most by youth and we sing all responses..the whole mass is.in singing except for homily
It's part of the priest's homily to deepen the meaning of the Sacrament of marriage ,to make it strong, have faith in God and value the love that God has given to them
i can confirm this is legit, since my cousin who is a priest, also sings when conducting masses, aside from the fact that sometimes, he would do duets with his younger brother is now an aspiring singer in California. I guess it runs in the family.
Am almost in my 60's..as far as I remember..all the priest and pastor's that I've seen, know can sing. All religious sects in the Philippines..pastors, deacons, priests, nuns, imams, can and know how to sing. Our priest surprised us by singing How Did You Know by Gary V. after the wedding mass. We had our special first dance in front of the altar. I wonder if he also did this to other couples. RIP, Fr. Elso Nalangan.
When i attended mass in LA, i miss the portions of the mass which are sang by the choir in the Philippines. Realized that my country is so musical that many portions of our mass is sung, which is not true in other countries. Even during the consecration of the Holy Bread, priests sang it in their own way. And yes, most people join in the singing. Its not.strange to sing during Masa
Just to add, there exists a Jesuit Music Ministry based in Ateneo de Manila University. Part of it is a musical group called Himig Heswita composed mostly of Jesuit priests, seminarians and some lay people who are composers and singers. 🤣 meanwhile, I’m sitting here watching this thinking isn’t this common? Coz I grew up going to a mass sang (in latin) from start to finish during special RC occasions… and EVERY priest will play the guitar and sing with the choir.
Imagine my brother who's a priest not sing? 😅 He doesn't sing like this, but he leads. That's normal because they do have chorales and everything in the seminary. My brother has no talent so he's usually on the adminsitrative works or the one who manages kitchen😂
