Thanks for the video, very entertaining. It helps me to remember some words I had forgot, since I had left home for over thirty years now. I can still understand, but cannot speak Itsekiri anymore. The dance, omg, how i used to dance like no man business . Now I cannot speak my mother tongue. i want to cry.
please post some more of these if you have them,....truly amazing and relaxing and origingal drums and musical instruments are unbeatable....,thanks for sharing...
Itsekiris have never claimed to be Igbo. It is Yourbas who generally regard anyone East of Ondo State is Igbo when they are not. Itsekiris share their northern borders with the Ilajes of Ondo state. They are closely related to the South Eastern Yoruba - namely the Ijebu, Owo, Ilaje and Ondo people and are also related to their Edo and Urhobo-Isoko neighbours through marriage. All of these groups including the Ijo have influenced the Itsekiri culture and way of life. That is why on the surface the Itsekiri may look or sound different from standard Yoruba. However the itsekiri language is based on an ancient form of south east Yoruba (primarily old Ijebu) that has survived relatively unchanged because of its isolation in the Niger Delta.

Is Itsekiri are yoruba people?....But why they are claiming Igbo?.
Corneluta Adeola, Itsekiri is not Yoruba. Although linguistically it is basically the same.
Itsekiris have never claimed to be of Ibo extraction!
