That was an interesting point about Rick's regression being evidenced by him dumping that secret onto Morty instead of going back to his therapist. I thought it was messed up that he did this but did not realize that this move is what demonstrated that he hasn't really grown. The last scene also kind of reveals that it's the entire family system dynamic that keeps all of them from growing because they seem to lock each other into maladaptive roles. Great reaction as always!
I actually disagree. Remember regular Rick: he does not care. He does his own thing and keeps secrets - he even mentioned one episode how normal it is to hide stuff from the family. But in this instance, he didn’t tell Morty for the purpose of bragging or sabatoging. You could tell it weighed on him and, like he said, he had to tell someone. Think about it: Rick was so bothered by something he had to get it off his chest. That’s new. It also shows growth in Morty. Old Morty would have likely kept the secret. Bc it’s Rick and Morty. But Morty immediately called out Rick and showed loyalty to his family by not keeping such a secret from them. This is all different. Whether you see it as growth for the better or just a lateral shift in characterization, it’s not a regression. As for the argument at the end, idk. It felt like a very normal family squabble. A reasonable reaction. Instead of a lingering secret, it was aired out and the family addressed it head on. The family just seems more cohesive this season.
@@robmarsh918 Yeah, I definitely agree with this. Rick may have messed up here in the end, but it can't be denied that he's shown some legit improvement in his character throughout the season. In particular, I think back to his apology to Jerry at the end of the fortune cookie episode.... the old Rick would have _never_ have done that. I think getting cut off from portal travel truly has forced him to change his outlook to some extent, as miniscule as it may be. And the way I see it, baby steps are better than no steps at all. 😉
Huh... now that you bring it up. Yeah. Rick canonically has never solved death. If things goes tits up, we just seem him go to another dimension. If his body gets fucked up, he just transfers his consciousness to a new body (ah la operation phoenix). He can create life from scratch, we've seen it many times, but we've never seen him bring someone back to life from complete death.
@@jjpark98 in one of the latest episode where rick and jerry swap minds, it does seem as though the machine brought them back to life. perhaps he made a breakthrough at some point and just "*burp* meh", automated it and forgot about it.
I admire and respect how you can both analyze all the aspects of the show on the go and give an genuine emotional reactions. You are the perfect reactionist, Alycia. I can't wrap my mind around the fact that there are much more popular channels who react, that are less eloquent, less analytical, less sincere, and less charismatic than you are. Thank you for being great at what you do.
Honestly I’d be feeling exactly how Rick feels….he’s had to deal with all these “Mr” characters always trying to attack him or force him into a fight, and the ONE TIME he doesn’t react, the person who does gets all this glory and fame. Where was Ricks gooey orb?
I'm a dude in my early 30s and this episode just breaks me. Maybe they'll revisit it at some point where Rick does a Birdperson -> Pheonixperson, but on Piss Master, and they become friends for real...
09:05 » well, I think that might be sporadic episodes of that with some other absurd issues to brace yourself not to go crazy (of course, if it isn't a one-off)

Yes Jerry lol you should had just let it go hahaha great episode. Heavy... It shows when you get viral on the net over something you did, can have reversed effects for the other person. Piss master... Rick did something, but he also wanted to prove he was worth being someone. Then the best thing rick did, was the give his daughter a happy ending
This episode was not my cup of pi... tea, I mean tea, but your reaction to it made it 10 times more funnier. Graat episode for Jerry, and I think Rick was more irritated than jealous. Prizing Jerry, in front of Rick, for who Jerry is - irritating for sure. Also I think Rick would never go to real therapy as that would be admitting that he's wrong.
You guys should watch the 2017 DuckTales reboot. It's amazing and it is as good as Avatar The Last Airbender and Rick and Morty in terms of quality, story, and comedy.
@@MultiAlerocks for me, the fact he told morty showed his trust in morty. Mr. Goldenfold is in therapy for eating poop. So, of course he would love being a fly.
…I swear these little details blow my mind every time
Also, I think Rick knew he would like it.

Seeing Jerry have a moment to shine was by far my favorite part of the episode 😂 he's so underrated
🥰
Until he ruined it and he's my favorite character too
3:53 I guess Rick was telling the truth way back in season 1, he really can’t cure death.

The whole thing about Orphan Island got me😂
Mr. Goldenfold being happy as a fly is definitely a call back to him liking to eat pooh.
Rick comes by his crippling loneliness and alcoholism honestly, he was a good family man before his family was murdered
He hasn't changed, but he's acknowledging there are problems. Which is the first step for change.
