Coldest take in existence imo, it's definitely very condensed and has very little exploration content in between (no temple to find or bulbs/life to search for, it's all surface)
@@YuMz69 most people beat them pre golem or even pre plantera in Duke's case, hell, i've seen people beat him pre mech. Duke and EoL are both dodge heavy bosses with basically no time limit so it doesn't really matter what armor and weapon you use, the only things you need are a dash and wings
Best way to help newer players is that when a guide dies and there is no available housing during the day to transform the guide in to a "Traveling Guide" type of NPC, acting same way Traveling Merchant does, however, opposite to Traveling Merchant requiring housing to spawn, in this case, Traveling Guide requires there to be no housing available / no npcs spawned. And when talking to him he would explain what is required to build housing for NPCs to spawn in.
That's not a bad suggestion, but the guide has other big problems that make him a bad tutorial. Terraria needs a proper tutorial. The guide is a waste of time. Clicking on "help" multiple times just to learn something new is objectively bad design for a tutorial. The player will get frustrated and tab out to a wiki or YT video when either the info provided by the guide is not new enough or on topic enough or can't find an older tip that they just forgot and want to re-read. Most players never touch the guide except for crafting purposes after they realize how useless and annoying the "help" option is. When I've shown terraria to new people, they quickly stop listening to the guide even when I tell them that the guide is useful. Even when I was new, I avoided the guide, because random facts when I want to learn something specific is like me asking "how do I wash my hands" and I get the response "Knives are tools used in the kitchen for example to cut things like vegetables"... WHO finds that useful? Nobody. To fix the guide you'd need the ability to choose a topic, to re-read old lines that he's already said, and the guide needs to be able to teach you how to play and general concepts that are unique to terraria (controls, how to move, how to select etc) which is useless if you have to talk to the guide first, since you already did some of that, so the guide would need to start a dialogue as you spawn in. But that would be annoying to everybody who isn't new, so you'd need an option to not have that happen for not-new players. And at that point you might as well just make a real tutorial.
@@PolarTrance Terraria definetly doesnt need tutorials on walking and talking. It is basics that are very easy to guess. Inventory, Crafting, Housing, Equipment and that stupid happiness thing are much more important
@@qsfff5099 Tutorials should and generally do include the very basic things, like movement and interactions, just to get you going, even if it's your first time on the computer or you're not very curious on your own (at least during the first minutes of the game). I also consider those to be easy to figure out, but I also consider most of the features you mentioned to be similarly easy, at least to me, but I also know that people are different and what is easy for me, ain't easy for everybody and vice versa. I think I get why you disagree, some tutorials make those parts take too long and or patronizing (worse when it's a mandatory tutorial), but as long as the tutorial is optional, I see no problem with including those basics in the tutorial.
@@PolarTrance These things arent unique to terraria, thats why i think they should not be in tutorial. When player opens tutorial and sees things it already knows it gets bored and may miss unique things or just quit tutorial
My hot take: dreadnautilus should have a popup message in the chat (something along the lines of “Terrible thing trembles the ocean’s surface”) and be visible in the water without fishing because if you play semi blindly you would NEVER fish during a blood moon if you are a sane human ALSO hot take 2: Guide should be immortal before the first house is built
@@Pokedude-wy4uj or always allow the guide to respawn at world origin since other NPC can take his spot if you fail wall of flesh. This has led many new players to be frustrated with, "Why isn't the guide respawning so I can fight WoF?" because someone like the stylist that was rescued but didn't have a house can now move in after the guide dies.
Hot take: Bound NPCs are often way too hard to find and I don't like having to go to the ends of the earth just to find a goblin who will waste all my money.
Hot take: True melee is fun and a hard challenge, but hardmode melee in particular is just a joke, it's unfair that you have the best armour, no mana, no ammo AND big range. I get it for post moon lord swords like the zenith but melee is built to be with limited range, it's too OP like that
I hard agree, why not instead of dumb swords give other weapons, with actual range, more presence. Like let spears, halberds, ball and chains, yoyos, even goddamn two-handed sword, not itty bitty one handed pokers, plus melee combat is too simplistic considering the bullet-hell esque gameplay, it would require some form of abilities that either reduce damage further to deliver one mean slash or dodges that recharge over time. In general, Terraria deserves a combat update.
bro i agree sm but unless they increase the true melee weapon sizes or change the boss ai to account for actually needing to get up close, such as the boss unleashing attacks, then taking a "rest period" where you can attack, (of course u can stil attack while they attack but it's riskier) i dont see how true melee is very viable rn
I think it's completely unreasonable to suggest that Melee players can't have range. The point of Melee isn't that you HAVE to fight up close; the point of Melee is that fighting up close is *optimal, if not required.* Projectile Melee weapons like the Terra Blade give you the *option* to back up and fight at a distance, at the cost of the high damage output you'd get up close The real problem is how bosses are designed and how Terraria handles difficulty. Bosses give you little to no opportunities to get really close (especially in Hardmode), and the ludicrous damage buffs enemies get in higher difficulties pressure you to keep getting more and more tanky or go all in on damage. These factors combined make fighting up close unappealing, especially when you're new to the game (There are weird exceptions to my hot take like the Scourge of the Corruptor and the Daybreak, those don't feel like Melee weapons at all)
17:40 We summoners are passionate bc for almost a decade summoner was dogs**t, and to stick with the class and now have it be functional and even competitive with the other classes feels WILD.
Fishing NEEEDs extra bobbers. Fishing never gets better no matter how you progress in Terraria, but get a 2nd or 3rd bobber in modded and suddenly it's fun.
Fishing absolutely gets better what? Once you have full angler armour and all the fishing accessories, paired with the golden rod and potions, fishing is a breeze
@@Izzythemaker127literally how all you slap on an armor set and gulp down some potions befote you go fishing absolutely nothing changed what do you mean it gets less boring?
@@ZAK_14_HESS Because you can get fish ing to be really fast if you get the highest gear you can, its not like you have to wait for hours(usually, you can still get unlucky)
@Izzythemaker127 guess I'm always unlucky then because even when i get the gear and potions it still feels like it takes HOURS, and i have to hope even more that i don't get screwed by the alchemy table too
hot take: the most fun one can have with terraria is knowing ZERO and being surprised by random bosses/events spawning and figuring out stuff on your own with trial and error and the guide
This way you'll also skip most of the content in the game. Let's say someone have beaten the game by only beating the required bosses. Not only will they miss most of the game, research shows that most players don't replay games once they finish them, so they very likely to never actually find this content. For example, if i didn't learned beforehand, i would (and have once) dropped baldurs gate 3 somewhere in the first act, simply due to disappointment in necromancer, because you can earn all the cool stuff only closer to the end of the first act or by doing very specific things
I can agree to an extent. There’s a unique type of fun in any game when you go into it completely blind. I remember panicking so much with my friends whenever a new message we hadn’t seen before would appear. However, most fun is of course subjective and as some people here mentioned there are some fun things you will just completely miss out on due to a lack of knowledge on it
Hot take: Terraria IS a hard game No matter what game it is, you will get good eventually through sheer playtime alone, including terraria. The saying "skill issue" to everyone struggling at a certain point in the game are the same people with 1800 hours in the game, saying "get good" is the same as telling a homeless person to buy a house
Getting good at a terraria isn't even difficult(would require a lot of time) unlike getting house as a homeless person. Not an amazing analogy, but your point still stands
Prehard has the most interesting accessories. You got flying carpets, double, triple, quad jumps, the goated STEP STOOL. Then you get into hardmode and it's pretty much just wings and stat-sticks. Most of the interesting & odd ones rarely get used because other things are just better at padding your personal damage. Spore Sac coming in handy on the fishing loadout.
As a sunmoner main I think the reason people are so obsessed about summoner is, there are just as many good things about summoner as there are bad things about it. Because of that you never stop thinking about summoner. You always try to justify liking it.
Summoner is bad on a conceptual level, as a summoner main, because it promotes a distant playstyle that makes the balance of combat interaction hard to learn, and it's attractive to new players for similar reasons; I would much rather passively mine and fish while my minions handle things, and it's made boss fights harder to understand as a result.
@@LepidoliteMica I disagree I think summoner players learn bosses just fine specifically because whipping require a relatively close range to be used so you can't run off into the sunset and if your not whipping your probably dodging instead remember summoner has the lowest armour so because summons do most of the work all you really do in most fights is dodging which requires to to learn the bosses boss fight pattern pretty quickly the day time empress of light is a fantastic example of this one hit and your dead there's a reason why she has one of the best summoner weapons and pretty much nothing else she's the summoner classes personal boss you need practically master the class to beat her (And also most bosses can easily keep up with the player and most summons don't have the range for a real runaway into the sunset strategy )
@@oldfrozenwolf6803 It has definitely improved since the addition of whips, but they still feel less engaging and combined with the low armor their limited range is pretty painful. My main issue with summoner, though, came from before their addition, when summoners got no weapons of their own and as such were just kinda tangential to any fights around them; that playstyle was the majority of my summoner experience and has been challenging to unlearn now that they actually get their own damage type. On the topic of fight patterns, though, my point might have gotten lost in translation because you kinda restated it. Summoners do focus on dodging in most fights, that's true; that's also my problem with the class. Other classes have to focus on dodging _and_ continuing to deal damage effectively, and if you pick up summoner for the minions you don't figure out a lot of that other half of the equation, which makes starting on other classes an effective relearning of the game.
As a Summoner main, idk exactly what I like about Summoner that makes me ignore the problems. It might be some mixture of boss fights being my favorite aspect of the game and so the summoners focus on dodging coupled with low armor makes boss fights more fun. For two, I always liked the challenge that came from 1.3 prehardmode summoner since you only got like 3 weapons and one set of armor (not including sentries). I actually liked Summoner less when whips came out, I just don’t like whips they remind me too much of melee and I think they take away from the identity of the Summoner. So I that I like summoner because it’s bad. It offers a more unique challenge than the other classes imo which made the game more fun for me.
Old ones army is actually quite enjoyable if you play it the way it's meant to be played with sentries and the appropriate tavern keeper armors for your teir
I think that gameplay wise, the Angler is the best designed NPC. He isn't just another vendor and gets people to interact with his gameplay system in a more rewarding way. I think the quest system he has would work very well on other NPCs. Imagine if the Dryad had a daily quest to purify part of a world, or if the Zoologist had a daily quest to kill x number of x enemy for a reward. Reasons to go and do things that I feel players normally wouldn't do.
Oh, yeah actually, getting quests from other npcs would actually be really cool, and is nice to help give them more character and importance, rather than getting a few specific things and never talking to them again. Zoologist, Dryad, or even Golfer or Party Girl, those can be great, even if they don't have as many useful items as the Angler.
heres mine: magiluminescence is the best accessory in the game. I don't mean choose it over the soaring insignia or celestial shell, but it's extremely useful for the longest amount of time and doesnt get outclassed easily. I usually find myself using it from eye of cthulu right up until plantera when i get the wisp in a bottle (unless i get lucky with another light pet) - its just so good to have an infinite source of light so early in the game and the movement buffs are crazy
I think that by non linear, that guy was refering to the fact that you can beat any pre hardmode boss in any order. You can beat the WoF as your first boss for example. You cant do that with the moon lord because its gate kept by golem who its gatekept by plantera who is gatekept by mech bosses.
Surely the solution should just be having the guide be able to spawn regardless if there is suitable housing or not. It won't change any gameplay but would allow more people to give the game more of a chance.
It would also make spawning the WOF slightly easier if you want something specific. Those random npc's that decides they want the Guide's previous home the second you enter hardmode are obnoxious, I just wanna fight the guy ten times in a row to get all the emblems.
My hot take: the moon lord (specifically master where it actually does damage) is a terribly designed boss. it forces you to be far away from him because of either fast, mostly unreactable projectiles or homing projectile spam, but then also forces you to stay close because of the laser. Plus the boss hides its hurtboxes making it more tedious than it already is.
Do you want to know what is the hottest take? Playing Terraria on a mobile phone and on easy difficulty is more difficult than playing on Master Mode on PC or any other device.
I've only done a mobile run, though I think mobile and expert is as hard as pc and master. Especially on a device, which in my case isn't performing very well.
I've done duke first, it's a very fun fight when you're undergeared, since you can entirely skill your way around the fight. Especially with golf cart / shield of Cthulhu
Hot take: The Magiluminescence is the best movement accessory aside from wings for the whole game. It's better than dashes, terraspark boots, and double jumps
I agree. Though amphibian boots were even better than that. Before they were nerfed. Changed from my favorite accessory to a worthless waste of time... Why'd they have to nerf it? 😭
ok summoner being "the most skill based class" does explain some of my skill issues. i usually play summoner just bc I just want to delegate the bulk of combat to my little guys while I do my resource gathering (and yes, even fishing). I can't be called a new player after having this game for a decade, but to this day i avoid the ranger class bc my aim is shit and that is not changing. i just want to chill in softcore classic and deploy the boys
23:20 I can kinda agree with this tbh, instead of only a % increase in enemy stats master mode should have added new boss mechanics and attack patterns. The random lava lakes, active bombs from pots and other ftw/gfb also make the world alot more messy quickly
This may not be a hot take because it could just be true, but I don't hear anyone talking about it. Snake charmer flute is one of the best utility items in the game. It makes it so much easier to make floating arenas, make a floating opposite evil island if you don't care about its mimic drops or don't need a ton of its effect drops (cursed flame/ichor) and only care for its fish, it makes it easy to make a secluded surface mushroom house and lake. Yeah rope does the same, but snake charmer flute doesn't need to be taken down when you don't need it. It can also allow you to search for sky islands on small worlds without a grav potion. Maybe I just don't like having to take down placed rope because of how annoying it can be.
Summoner is my favourite class, but I REALLY wish there was an incentive to mix and match different summons. Most of the time it's optimal to just max out your slots on 1 summon weapon
Pre HM summons need to be mixed due to i frame issues. And mixing terraprismas and 3 stardust dragons is better than having all dragons or terraprismas.
Hot take: playing "multi-class" is just as fun as single class. I tend to play a combo of melee and another class, such as summoner or mage. And if we're talking mods, Thorium's thrower class goes well with another class for backup. And if playing multiplayer, healer + another class is great because you don't die as much while you're keeping everyone alive.
I enjoy multi-class. I’ve done several Mage-Summoner playthroughs and my first character was also that combo. It gives you more build options and lessens the weaknesses of each class
16:42 Tbh, Idk how hot this take would be, but I feel like there's no reason *NOT* to at least dip into summoner a lil. you can have all the guns'n'swords you want, but if you don't have your lil friend watching your back then you are just missing out on free damage. It would be fun if summons benefitted off of other gear like ranged summons benefit off of ranged damage boosts and what have you, but that'd probably get broken quick.
3:50 The guide should respawn guaranteed, even without housing. This would also help if you lose him for WoF. And I think he should build his own house.
@@Frostbite-qd8gn Pc doesn't have it. I think its only on mobile and old console/3ds, but it might also be on new console versions. It should be on every version though, because housing isn't intuitive.
@Izzythemaker127 omg, honestly i didn't know, i started on xbox way back so i just assumed every version had it, thanks for the information, cheers mate
My hot take: hybrid class sets should be more common. The sandstrom armour in hardmode is amazingly fun and i wish there were more hybrids with cool set bonuses.
Basically just using this to say my suggestions: You should be able to combine two shackles, there should be biome evil cactus armor, gnomes should display as a buff just like the bast statue, you should be able to add giant turtle shell and frozen shell to make the ultimate shellphone, there should be a buff from sleeping in a bed just like from eating, and more I can’t think of rn.
Hot take: terraria has a similar problem with Minecraft in the sense that it doesn’t have the greatest replayability. Sure there are multiple difficulties but they don’t make it feel different, the secret seeds only extend the play time for 1 more run so you have to resort to mods to get more out of the game. This second one goes hand in hand with the last one, the world needs more tweaks, I’m talking new biomes and structures. All the biomes have really similar terrain, they could add cliffs and caverns, or mountain biomes or even just make mineshafts cooler.
Terraria is a finished game that gets updates sometimes. Minecraft is a “finished” game that relies on unfinished updates to keep their community alive.
18:27 I personally like end pre-hardmode and post golem hardmode the best. The joy of exploring the last parts of the world and getting a small breather to build things before the world gets hectic again is so nice. I wish more games could have this kind of calm space in the middle of the game to just chill. Post golem is fun because it houses a lot of fun events + the martian madness. There's just a lot to do and a lot of choices for weapons that you could go for to beat moon lord.
Lowkey end of pre hardmode might be my favorite part of the game. I enjoy the lower power level and enemies aren’t as annoying as in hardmode. You get some time to make last minute preparations before hardmode, optimize your build, etc. idk it’s just fun
lemme tell you about the newbie mind. when i started out, it took me research to figure out PLATFORMS. what do you MEAN there's background, foreground, and passthrough mid/foreground tiles and objects?? underground cabins give nice clues but they're not the first thing you see. building got easier after those things were learned. aaaaalsooooo, class damage. did not click until after my first full playthrough. so, imagine, a character in full beetle armor, using the dang morning star. and trying to fight EOL with the heat ray. thankfully moony was fought with the terrablade. i think.
The gear from OOA is honest really great (betsy's curse is a particular highlight for me personally), but the main thing stopping most players from getting all of the stuff is how it feels so tedious, both to set up and progress.
I’d have to agree on the class purity thing. I personally am never without a summon no matter the class I’m playing. Well after I get my hands on one anyway
Lastly: My hot take is that Re-Logic should revert the changes to the reaver shark and the fish bowl + Neptune's shell changes. The reaver shark was a fun tool for speedrunning progression when it could break hellstone and since it's locked behind fishing I don't think it's broken enough to be an issue for your average player's immersion. It's also a sandbox game, so if you want to avoid it, don't fish. Make it a rarer fishing drop if it's rally that big of a problem. Fish bowl + merfolk combo used to drown you on the ground and allow you to breath underwater, which made for a fun challenge. Now it no longer has the penalty of not being able to breath above ground breaking the decade old challenge. This could also be remedied by a secret seed combo where you can only breath under water and suffocate breathing air or where this change is reversed back to how it was.
@Spiney09 I was considering that too, but since they're adding mixable seeds and items like the wizard hat, keybrand and such change functionality based on secret seeds I thought it would be more fitting. They also wouldn't have to make an entirely new sprite for it.
Hot take: All the classes are fun. There is no definite best class. Each one has their own strength and weaknesses. Each one is insanely powerful under the right circumstances and has a fun and unique role in a multiplayer setting. Each one has some interesting variety in progression, even the summoner.
I think it's true, but the fun in progression varies for each class, especially in pre-hardmode. Gun ranger has nice different feeling options to try throughout pre-hardmode, yet the only interesting bows are bees knees and hellwing. early pre-hard mage is honestly upsetting. Melee picks up in fun a whole lot towards the end with volcano, sunfury, and nights edge. Summoner is pretty decent, except for whip progression, but that's being changed in 1.4.5. Hardmode is when things really pick up in diversity, though summoner is going all over the place compared to the other 3 at the start, but that doesn't make it bad. Then they all go separate paths toward the end, which makes sense with the finale being the specific diversion of each class getting a weapon from each boss.
Hot Take: empress is easier than moonlord on level. empress is predictable and fair to dodge, with reasonable damage output and health, whereas moonlord has a bunch of homing, fast, and hard to see projectiles with little warning and stupidly high damage, with a lot of health even with the pillar weapons
I actually agree with the first guy. Mediumcore shakes up the gameplay quite a bit. It makes you more weary of taking risks while not literally deleting your character after dying, and when you DO die you are forced to use strange loadouts from stuff in your chests to get them back which can be fun. But no people would rather lose their entire character after dying rather than spending 10 minutes getting items.
@@continental_consumer i mean, hardcore is alot more impressive and isnt just tedious, id much rather beat hardcore and feel proud than just having to get my items any time i die (which most of the time would either just be super annoying, or just at your arena so it would barely change anything)
Hot take: why use EOL/DUKE loot to kill cultist? like wth i just kill him with pre/post golem loot and get the pillars loot, then if i REALLY need the help, i grab the expert mode EOL accessory (goated) and if ABSOLUTELY necessary, i go for duke
I think its just for fun. I myself just do it because why not. But yeah, i do wish they made the cultist and pillars much harder so you actually have a reason to fight eol/duke
@@Alec1029 It wouldn't matter if they made the pillars more difficult, as it isn't a boss meaning you can constantly go back after death and eventually get the loot. They should've made Cultist more difficult though, to lock the progression that is obtained from the pillars.
It's not needed, but it's fun to progress higher like that. Besides, I'd say the progression from plantera to golem is MUCH shorter than golem to cultist. Cultist isn't hard either, but the seasonal moons, EOL and Duke, and even the OOA for Betsy is far more fun progression than the pillars.
The Guide should just spawn in with a house of his own, honestly. Make it basic and simple, so that players can figure it out based on what they see. Also, have the Guide tell them about the Housing button.
That ranger take is crazy, I agree the armor may be the worst but its not like mage where just using your main weapon literally debuffs your dps because mana sickness... Id put ranger over summoner until post golem too since it's actually consistent throughout the playthrough
Ranger is really basic, has boring weapon upgrades, gets repetitive without actively going of your way to get a bizarre weapon like the xenopopper, and is just not that fun. I’ve done every class many times and so far ranger has been the least fun and I’ve had the least motivation keep going while mage is always getting a next bizarre weapon and has a cool mechanic. Not to mention the different ways you can play mage, as it just about tough enough to be a tank if you fully max your build that way and is very highly damaging and easy to make a very effective glass cannon. And the mana sickness only really is there because mage has a ridiculous DPS in the first place.
13:57 Sure boomstick is situationally better than minishark, but the boomstick is an rng chest item while minishark is guaranteed. Also ammo consumption buffs and meteor shot makes it a beast
18:26 - I think what they're trying to get at here is that of the pre-Hardmode bosses, the only two that are *_mandatory_* are Skeletron and Wall of Flesh. It's just that the health values of those bosses direct you in a certain order, like Eye / King Slime→ EOW / BOC → Skeletron → Bee (opt'l) → Deerclops (opt'l) → WOF... ...whereas in _Hardmode,_ you *_have_* to beat the mech bosses to fight Plantera; you *_have_* to beat Plantera to open the Temple and face Golem; then Golem for the Cultist; and the Cultist for the Pillars and Moon Lord _(the first time, at least)._ 90% of the time, Queen Slime, Duke and Empress are total afterthoughts.
Minishark is awesome! Damage consistency at most viable ranges so long as you can aim it is very valuable. Pair it with Meteor Shots crazy early and it certainly holds up great into HM. I usually pair it with the Boomstick to have more damage output flexibility. Think like mixing summons and whip stacking. Sure you'll be fine using just one whip but you're leaving plenty of dps on the table. In other words, the game gives you a buffet to put on your plate and you're eyeballing the noodles
Hot take: The angler should have shop that you can buy stuff like fishing rods with increased fishing power, better baits, fishing potions and other stuff alike that helps with fishing
10:11 the knockback immunity made obsolete in most situations by just having a grappling hook. It doesn't take an accessory slot, and it both ignores the knockback and lets you get some distance away from whatever was juggling you and for normal knockback. That stops mattering as soon as you get either a double jump, a hook, or a horseshoe. The only time i'd say it's decent is as was mention, WOF. But my question would be. Why are you that close anyway? Unless you're melee which then...yeah it's good. 12:05: I think why people like it is cause it's easy to use and it's a decent choice for eater if you wanna use guns. But it is kinda turbo ass most of the time.
Doesn't getting damaged reset your acceseleration as well? Especially when you are not flying. Dashing like the shield of Cthulhu and ninja gear can mitigate that though, and i might be wrong about the momentum reset entirely.
@@ГлебСилин-у7т Just tested it. It does stop your acceleration but like you said just dash or use a hook which doesn't get stopped when you get hit. (except master ninja gear, that dash does suffer from that issue but by that point, you should be fast enough where it doesn't matter as much.
@@CompleteToast imo it can be intimidating for new players to use a hook during bossfights, just more micro control on top of the dodging. But for general use it does the job, agreed.
@@ГлебСилин-у7т I can see that, i personally used it a tonne on my first run but, i didn't find boots until like, post skeletron so, not sure if that says much. I get a new player using the shields and in that case it does help to learn but i've always seen phasing it out as something you do with experience.
That might have been true before 1.4.4, but since 1.4.4 melee has been buffed significantly to the point that I think it's a fair bit easier than ranger.
0:49 but Xeno staff It’s the best summon to get the terraprisma with. It’s 4th place in terms of all summons (stardust dragon, then terraprisma, then stardust cell as it is just a better version of Xeno staff) Summoner supremacy
Hot take: Fledgling wings are one of the best wings in the game because they can replace the lucky horseshoe and give immunity to fall damage, a little bit more jump height, and more dodging capabilities. They're also really good for WoF because if you run out of arena, it gives more options than fall in lava and die.
I tried playing journey master mode and I have to tell you the fledgling wings make pre hard mode 10x easier. Skeletron goes from slightly hard to a minor nuisance, the other bosses too
@@ioneoval7668 they are much better, no sane person would fight WoF with only fledgling wings as mobility. But it makes sense they are better since it’s so much harder to get.
The Martian Madness event is the best event in my opinion, but only in classic mode. For the reason that one of the drops is the UFO mount which is (in my opinion) the best mount for classic mode due to the fact that better mounts are only obtainable in either expert or master mode and the UFO has unlimited flight.
My brother got it after killing like 5 saucers with Durendel. I gave him like 3 Gauntlets and all the accesories were +4 Melee speed. It was heckin funny.
The Paintball Gun you get from the Painter is arguably one of the best weapons you can get Pre-Hardmode. It's not the strongest, but with how early you can get access to it vs. what it's capable of, I think it's a weapon that is incredibly slept on.
3:50 Doesn't terraria have a tutorial. It tells you all the basic things, like making a workbench and a furnace, mining ores and making suitable housing. Edit: It's wild to me that PC doesn't get a tutorial.
It has achievements too, but are we assuming new players have no internet to search stuff or good video tutorials or begginer tips for a smoother experience.
@@Throarbinit doesn't need it too much besides from house building, walls may be complicated for new players and the minimal size, but the the rest is just show a thing to the dude that spawns with you (the guide) and you can figure it out from there. So we can make the argument for npc housing, pc specific.
@@Dario__ part 2 to what? reacting to hot takes? because this is part 2. If you're talking about bringing that one noob through the game, two parts to that are already out.
Except that it’s too damn slow. I had a mod that let you right click the crystal to make the enemies spawn faster (up to like 20x faster) and it became much more tolerable because I was shredding everything anyways.
0:46 I think that the main reason for this was the melee update not including the influx waver. That sword plus the cosmic car key made the event really exciting to come across
14:45 summoner is a class with a high skill ceiling, a low skill floor, and a sharp skill curve. new players are drawn to it because of the whole "oh i dont have to do anything" idea, but your mileage is almost entirely carried by your ability to capitalize on the mechanics of summoner like whip stacking, as well as the general unfriendliness of summoner progression being a hill to climb
Recently i found a great appreciation for mini-shark while playing on zenith seed. It lasted with me even to WoF. Sure it was whatever against bosses but the knockback it provided on regular mobs was gorgeous. It kept all of them at bay, preventing them from rushing and gutting me. Especially on eaters of souls. I guess it’s because of the fast and consistent stream of bullets. Also I couldn't find boom stick cuz i was terrified of exploring the jungle
Don't know if this is a hot take because its probably a common opinion but i dont think biome spread should exist, especially for newer players it just kinda feels like you're constantly on a timer, ive had multiple worlds where after killing the WoF, the corruption spawns in the jungle and it makes it really annoying to find things like lift fruits or fighting plantera (i know the clentaminator exists but it feels like a pretty expensive solution plus doesn't even really do the full job if the spread is big enough)
13:25 I always rushed the musket for a first firearm since it's usually really easy to get from the corruption orbs, personally. Also, ranger is stupid fun, but I agree that the catch is to experiment with ammunition.
anchor would unironically be good as a prehardmode weapon Another hot take: the flare gun, while ugly, is useful: It's essentially a shootable sticky torch that remains for quite some time. It's arguably better than glowsticks (except for while digging a hellevator)
I got an interesting challenge, do a terraria team run, but you guys play all at once without communicating. Have fun fighting for resources and finding time for bosses. It will be pure chaos
My hot take (which is ironic due to a certain rant): summoners progression is the most interesting as pre hard mode items and hard mode items are useful throughout most of the game. For example obsidian armor is useful in the empress fight, and multiple whips are useful due to their tag effects throughout the full game.
Hot takes: 1: The guide should have an option to see where you can get certain materials 2: Enemies shouldn't spawn until noon on the first day 3: The quad copter is the best exploration tool in the game 4: Old ones army is the best event in the game, from gameplay, design, and rewards standpoints
1. Yeah that would be nice 2. I guess it could give some time to get a bit stronger before dying to a slime, i think however this should only be a thing for classic mode 3. No comment 4. Honestly, given all the others are moons and goblin army reskins, it does win by default i guess
Regarding the guide, when I played the console version ages ago, there was a tutorial that was pretty helpful and it guided me through creating houses, mining, etc.
I’m a summoner main who has crawled from my hole to tell you summoner is the funnest class in the game. Mage is second and melee is third. Ranged is only for early game and is garbage past wall.
About your summoner rant, honestly most of the people who play summoner are the same people who play bullet hells, such as myself, they're so passionate about the class for the same reason they're so passionate about no hits.
0:56 I agree, but there is one worse. The snow legion places random snow blocks all over your world, and drops NOTHING. ABSOLUTELY NOTHING except snow blocks.
Note, me and my sister discovered housing using the guides help button. That's how we managed to keep him alive long enough to progress. Edit: minishark is only good when upgraded to mega shark. Megashark + ichor bullets against twins and skeletron prime is goated. Edit 2: Summoner class is mid in my opinion. Yes, it does have high damage but defense kinda sucks. I recommend you play if you want to get better at dodging. Idea tho, use only whips and summoner armor and not any summons to make you get in close to deal damage. This can be a bit more useful for melee class users when they want to take less damage.
Hot take: significantly lower the dps of melee weapon projectiles with long/infinite range or lower their defense to be closer to the rest of the classes. We already have an accessibility option, it’s called the Classic difficulty.
12:20, on the topic of Summoner... if you use the Jojo Stands mod, The World can stop ANY boss dead in their tracks want to No-Diff Yharon in Calamity? "ZA WARUDO!" and you can at minimum beat his phase 1 without him ever getting to fight back, however Stands use your Summon Slot and are boosted by their own accessories and Summoner ones, and they cost 0 mana to use meaning any class can use a Stand without drawback, for example "Six" Pistols can help a ranged class, and Stands make Summoner in general a really easy class just a fairly short ranged one.
Hot take: the end of terraria feels so rushy. There's little content between golem and lunatic pillars and moonlord
That's just a fact
Coldest take in existence imo, it's definitely very condensed and has very little exploration content in between (no temple to find or bulbs/life to search for, it's all surface)
There is EoL and duke fishron
@@ttinchung111they should make the cultist thing spawn at a different place tbh, the dungeon just doesn’t make sense…
Best way they could do that, that is a good idea
My hot take: dreadnautilus should have a popup message in the chat (something along the lines of “Terrible thing trembles the ocean’s surface”) and be visible in the water without fishing because if you play semi blindly you would NEVER fish during a blood moon if you are a sane human
ALSO hot take 2: Guide should be immortal before the first house is built
Just good ideas honestly
Or maybe have a fishing summon like Duke
That way you always get it
First one yes, second one maybe
Instead of having the guide be immortal, have it so the guide can rewpawn without a house until the first house it built/discovered.
I get it for post moon lord swords like the zenith but melee is built to be with limited range, it's too OP like that
They really should throw on a mana cost to the swords, or maybe some other sort of “weapon charge” thing to differentiate between melee and mage.
What is true melee? Swords with no projectile?
tru melee is just the weapon hitbox and no projectiles, only projectiles that can spawn is if the wep hits the mob
The point of Melee isn't that you HAVE to fight up close; the point of Melee is that fighting up close is *optimal, if not required.* Projectile Melee weapons like the Terra Blade give you the *option* to back up and fight at a distance, at the cost of the high damage output you'd get up close
The real problem is how bosses are designed and how Terraria handles difficulty. Bosses give you little to no opportunities to get really close (especially in Hardmode), and the ludicrous damage buffs enemies get in higher difficulties pressure you to keep getting more and more tanky or go all in on damage. These factors combined make fighting up close unappealing, especially when you're new to the game
(There are weird exceptions to my hot take like the Scourge of the Corruptor and the Daybreak, those don't feel like Melee weapons at all)
The most based opinion I've heard today
17:40 We summoners are passionate bc for almost a decade summoner was dogs**t, and to stick with the class and now have it be functional and even competitive with the other classes feels WILD.
Fishing NEEEDs extra bobbers. Fishing never gets better no matter how you progress in Terraria, but get a 2nd or 3rd bobber in modded and suddenly it's fun.
Fishing absolutely gets better what? Once you have full angler armour and all the fishing accessories, paired with the golden rod and potions, fishing is a breeze
@@bigjack986 Agreed, this is why I love fishing. Imo it starts boring, but the point is the progression to it not being boring.
Well i got the destroyer and a blood moon on the first spawn
This way you'll also skip most of the content in the game. Let's say someone have beaten the game by only beating the required bosses. Not only will they miss most of the game, research shows that most players don't replay games once they finish them, so they very likely to never actually find this content. For example, if i didn't learned beforehand, i would (and have once) dropped baldurs gate 3 somewhere in the first act, simply due to disappointment in necromancer, because you can earn all the cool stuff only closer to the end of the first act or by doing very specific things
I mean, he just did two videos of that and showed how terrible the game is for making that work
I would agree if that was reasonable
I can agree to an extent. There’s a unique type of fun in any game when you go into it completely blind. I remember panicking so much with my friends whenever a new message we hadn’t seen before would appear. However, most fun is of course subjective and as some people here mentioned there are some fun things you will just completely miss out on due to a lack of knowledge on it
Hot take: Terraria IS a hard game
No matter what game it is, you will get good eventually through sheer playtime alone, including terraria.
Can confirm, I’ve been playing since I was around 10 and I still get my ass torn inside out by everything and anything
i have 6,000 hours in terraria and i still find a way to die to a fucking blue slime in journey mode when i forgot to turn off god mode and not afk
Agreed, I'd even add more spice on top: Terraria is harder for a newbie than Minecraft
Step stool supremacy!! Best accessory by far!
I LOVE the Spore Sac. If I had more slots I'd use it all the time, but I do like it on the fishing loadout
I fricking LOVE the flying carpet. Lowkey might be my favorite accessory. Full agree with you there
step stool is peak
As a sunmoner main I think the reason people are so obsessed about summoner is, there are just as many good things about summoner as there are bad things about it. Because of that you never stop thinking about summoner. You always try to justify liking it.
Summoner is bad on a conceptual level, as a summoner main, because it promotes a distant playstyle that makes the balance of combat interaction hard to learn, and it's attractive to new players for similar reasons; I would much rather passively mine and fish while my minions handle things, and it's made boss fights harder to understand as a result.
@@LepidoliteMica I disagree I think summoner players learn bosses just fine specifically because whipping require a relatively close range to be used so you can't run off into the sunset and if your not whipping your probably dodging instead remember summoner has the lowest armour so because summons do most of the work all you really do in most fights is dodging which requires to to learn the bosses boss fight pattern pretty quickly
the day time empress of light is a fantastic example of this one hit and your dead there's a reason why she has one of the best summoner weapons and pretty much nothing else she's the summoner classes personal boss you need practically master the class to beat her
(And also most bosses can easily keep up with the player and most summons don't have the range for a real runaway into the sunset strategy )
It offers a more unique challenge than the other classes imo which made the game more fun for me.
so in summary; its not good, but its fun.
Reasons to go and do things that I feel players normally wouldn't do.
hes even better if you get the friendly angler workshop thing
Oh, yeah actually, getting quests from other npcs would actually be really cool, and is nice to help give them more character and importance, rather than getting a few specific things and never talking to them again. Zoologist, Dryad, or even Golfer or Party Girl, those can be great, even if they don't have as many useful items as the Angler.
yeah but he's an ass and rewards are mid
heres mine:
magiluminescence is the best accessory in the game.
Fun fact: Every version except PC has a tutorial world that teaches you suitable housing and stuff
Agreed, I've played on PlayStation, Xbox, PC and mobile and you ain't wrong, PC is the easiest way to play, and mobile is horrendous.
I've only done a mobile run, though I think mobile and expert is as hard as pc and master. Especially on a device, which in my case isn't performing very well.
this one is so hot it burnt my balls
Totally agree, I haven’t beat a single boss on mobile in the 50 or so hours I put into it.
@@terrarianpowellhouse3433 even the eye?
I've done duke first, it's a very fun fight when you're undergeared, since you can entirely skill your way around the fight. Especially with golf cart / shield of Cthulhu
I just beat him on expert for the first time ever today and I don't think I want to do that
Imma do this now lowkey
Me and a friend did skill our way into killing Duke, it was hella fun to get attempts in
Hot take: The Magiluminescence is the best movement accessory aside from wings for the whole game. It's better than dashes, terraspark boots, and double jumps
I agree. Though amphibian boots were even better than that. Before they were nerfed. Changed from my favorite accessory to a worthless waste of time... Why'd they have to nerf it? 😭
That’s just common sense
Soaring insignia
I'll agree with you on this. Being able to get to top speed almost instantly is super useful when dodging.
Dune riders are better in my opinion
ok summoner being "the most skill based class" does explain some of my skill issues. i usually play summoner just bc I just want to delegate the bulk of combat to my little guys while I do my resource gathering (and yes, even fishing).
I always just go with different summons anyways just bc I like seeing the varying army lol
It's actually optimal to mix stardust dragon and terraprisma i know
Pre HM summons need to be mixed due to i frame issues. And mixing terraprismas and 3 stardust dragons is better than having all dragons or terraprismas.
The Party Girl is already a walking MLP crossover.
That last one's a bit complex for this game tbh.
@@Brite-um2tq Naw. I could code it up in a flash.

@Izzythemaker127 oh? I actually did not know that, are you referring to older versions or different platforms?
@@Frostbite-qd8gn Pc doesn't have it. I think its only on mobile and old console/3ds, but it might also be on new console versions. It should be on every version though, because housing isn't intuitive.

13:00 enemies having basically any defense at all makes the mini shark do under 50 dps at all times
My hot take: hybrid class sets should be more common. The sandstrom armour in hardmode is amazingly fun and i wish there were more hybrids with cool set bonuses.
Forbidden armour is so good but god damn its the worst thing to obtain, 1 fragment alone is tedious as hell, and you need THREE.
No one does Martian Madness for the weapons. It's the mount that makes it worthwhile
Or influx waver for the zenith at the end of the game.
mount is kinda terrible in comparison to witches broom, which can be obtained 1 boss earlier.
The point of luck is it's a hidden mechanic.
Ive never had a single terraria run that wasnt unique and ive played through it like 20 times now

I personally like end pre-hardmode and post golem hardmode the best.
The joy of exploring the last parts of the world and getting a small breather to
build things before the world gets hectic again is so nice.
I wish more games could have this kind of calm space in the middle of the game to
just chill.
Post golem is fun because it houses a lot of fun events + the martian madness.
There's just a lot to do and a lot of choices for weapons that you could go for to beat
moon lord.
Pre hard mode is just so fun.
Lowkey end of pre hardmode might be my favorite part of the game. I enjoy the lower power level and enemies aren’t as annoying as in hardmode. You get some time to make last minute preparations before hardmode, optimize your build, etc. idk it’s just fun
It took me one month to beat pre hardmode in classic cause I was too busy exploring the world instead of going to hell.
Basically the mechs make us feel stuck and fucked lmao
lemme tell you about the newbie mind. when i started out, it took me research to figure out PLATFORMS. what do you MEAN there's background, foreground, and passthrough mid/foreground tiles and objects?? underground cabins give nice clues but they're not the first thing you see. building got easier after those things were learned. aaaaalsooooo, class damage. did not click until after my first full playthrough. so, imagine, a character in full beetle armor, using the dang morning star. and trying to fight EOL with the heat ray. thankfully moony was fought with the terrablade. i think.
The gear from OOA is honest really great (betsy's curse is a particular highlight for me personally), but the main thing stopping most players from getting all of the stuff is how it feels so tedious, both to set up and progress.
My take: Calamity is overrated.
Agreed, the primary reason why i played it was the music.
based
It just makes issues of Terraria worse. You know, how everyone except summoner devolves into ranger pretty quickly
Valid
I’d have to agree on the class purity thing. I personally am never without a summon no matter the class I’m playing. Well after I get my hands on one anyway
Summoners have generational trauma.
Lastly:
My hot take is that Re-Logic should revert the changes to the reaver shark and the fish bowl + Neptune's shell changes.
Or just another version of the fishbowl item that would drown you still, like a heavy water fishbowl or something like that.
@Spiney09 I was considering that too, but since they're adding mixable seeds and items like the wizard hat, keybrand and such change functionality based on secret seeds I thought it would be more fitting.
They also wouldn't have to make an entirely new sprite for it.
@ they could just make the water slightly darker on the one you drown in
Yeah it felt like a reward for simply knowing about it. They could at least make it have the same power as a nightmare pick or smth
Hot take: Wiring is the most underutilised system in terraria, just cause yall dumb
There's almost no point to it though
Hot take: flamethrower is actually an really good weapon since you can cheese plantera, the elf melter is also an really good weapon
Hot take: All the classes are fun. There is no definite best class. Each one has their own strength and weaknesses. Each one is insanely powerful under the right circumstances and has a fun and unique role in a multiplayer setting. Each one has some interesting variety in progression, even the summoner.
Mage is JUST the fancier ranger, unless you use Spirit Flames. Which I do
I think it's true, but the fun in progression varies for each class, especially in pre-hardmode.
Bro the first guy is absolutely insane please get him help!
@@continental_consumer yea ur not wrong i just thought not going to the next boss till u have 55 relics is mad skill
each to their own bro, i bet he feels p good after completing everything his way
I just fight the Martians for the conduit plating.
But this isn't a hot take, but the Desert not having a really boss is a bloody TRAVESTY!
Because I got the whole terraprisma, and imma use the whole terraprisma 😤
@@Alec1029 pillars are already good enough they dont need a buff
Hot take: Golf in terraria is actually fun and the golf cart mount is one of the best in prehardmode
I think golf cart is also one of the best in hardmode as well, especially when paired with bundle of horseshoe balloons
4:19 tutorial world
FINALLY
I've heard the housing argument a million times and nobody ever talks about the tutorial world option on the main menu
Hot take: The angler should have shop that you can buy stuff like fishing rods with increased fishing power, better baits, fishing potions and other stuff alike that helps with fishing
Summoner fans give off fiery short person energy
Here is the Hot take from me, Ranger is the easiest class for new players to grasp, Melee too but Ranger def easiest for new ppl.
That might have been true before 1.4.4, but since 1.4.4 melee has been buffed significantly to the point that I think it's a fair bit easier than ranger.
0:49 but Xeno staff
It’s the best summon to get the terraprisma with. It’s 4th place in terms of all summons (stardust dragon, then terraprisma, then stardust cell as it is just a better version of Xeno staff)
Summoner supremacy
I wish we could get bubble shield which those Martians use. (Even as a cosmetic)
yes
On the other hand, its just the beeg fae and ML who are left after you beat Martians
Old ones army
Duke fishron
Lunatic cultist and stardust pillar
There’s some stuff, and you are going to need the strongest option for OOA tier 3
Fishing quests get you to engage with the different biomes on a deeper level and reward you for building out a pylon network
Infernal Take: add an optional herb-only potion recipe for ones that take fish just for people who hate fishing.
legacy mobile had a tutorial mode, that actually taught you how to build suitable housing.
To be fair I like beating duke fishron early for fun but I do NOT use its loot until I am at the part of progression where it is on tier.
whats even the point if you're not even using the loot? you beat duke early so you can have a deserved advantage for beating a really hard boss
@ so I can challenge myself while not making the rest of the game obsolete due to how op I am
Skeletron goes from slightly hard to a minor nuisance, the other bosses too
The terraspark boots are better for when you run out of arena against the WoF.
@@ioneoval7668 you can use both
@@daniiii888 Yeah, but if you were to use one against the WoF the boots are better.
@@ioneoval7668 they are much better, no sane person would fight WoF with only fledgling wings as mobility. But it makes sense they are better since it’s so much harder to get.
18:13 facts I swear that’s true it took me 50+ attempts to kill skellyprime but I can beat twins first try THAT IS FACTS
idk if this take is hot, but my favourite part of the game is prehardmode and early hardmode
edit: oh oops lol this came up in the video
Not on PC it doesn't
It has achievements too, but are we assuming new players have no internet to search stuff or good video tutorials or begginer tips for a smoother experience.
@@Throarbinit doesn't need it too much besides from house building, walls may be complicated for new players and the minimal size, but the the rest is just show a thing to the dude that spawns with you (the guide) and you can figure it out from there. So we can make the argument for npc housing, pc specific.
@@Throarbin Are you making a part 2 ? Im pretty sure i ll get ignored if i dont tag you...
@@Dario__ part 2 to what? reacting to hot takes? because this is part 2. If you're talking about bringing that one noob through the game, two parts to that are already out.
Hot take: Old one's army is something you should do often Besty wings have a higher droprate than most good wings, and the flying dragon is so good.
Except that it’s too damn slow. I had a mod that let you right click the crystal to make the enemies spawn faster (up to like 20x faster) and it became much more tolerable because I was shredding everything anyways.
Terreria on console was peak and shouldn't have been forced to be the same as pc
When duke fishron was the hardest boss lol
Recently i found a great appreciation for mini-shark while playing on zenith seed. It lasted with me even to WoF. Sure it was whatever against bosses but the knockback it provided on regular mobs was gorgeous. It kept all of them at bay, preventing them from rushing and gutting me. Especially on eaters of souls. I guess it’s because of the fast and consistent stream of bullets.
Also I couldn't find boom stick cuz i was terrified of exploring the jungle
Mine: Skeletron Prime is the easiest mech boss
Don't know if this is a hot take because its probably a common opinion but i dont think biome spread should exist, especially for newer players it just kinda feels like you're constantly on a timer, ive had multiple worlds where after killing the WoF, the corruption spawns in the jungle and it makes it really annoying to find things like lift fruits or fighting plantera
(i know the clentaminator exists but it feels like a pretty expensive solution plus doesn't even really do the full job if the spread is big enough)
I think it should exist, but should be capped. We still need underground evil and hallow biomes, after all
13:25 I always rushed the musket for a first firearm since it's usually really easy to get from the corruption orbs, personally. Also, ranger is stupid fun, but I agree that the catch is to experiment with ammunition.
anchor would unironically be good as a prehardmode weapon
Another hot take: the flare gun, while ugly, is useful: It's essentially a shootable sticky torch that remains for quite some time.
4:53 both out of context and with context hearing "what is a wall" is pretty funny. 😂
Hot takes:
1: The guide should have an option to see where you can get certain materials
2: Enemies shouldn't spawn until noon on the first day
3: The quad copter is the best exploration tool in the game
4: Old ones army is the best event in the game, from gameplay, design, and rewards standpoints
For number 2, the day STARTS at noon when a world is first created, and how would you get torches with no slimes?
1. Yeah that would be nice
2. I guess it could give some time to get a bit stronger before dying to a slime, i think however this should only be a thing for classic mode
3. No comment
4. Honestly, given all the others are moons and goblin army reskins, it does win by default i guess
Oh Throarbin. YOU are too hot for Terraria.
If you get the shark tooth necklace it is especially good at boosting the mini shark
Meowmere is better... you're literally shooting rainbow cats
We already got a MLP Crossover. The Party Girl is based off of Pinkie Pie
15:25 the trees are nodding in agreement with you 😂❤
Hot take: the frost legion is a fun Christmas event.
You realize there is a tutorial in Terraria that teaches you how to build suitable housing.
