Okay, props to the person who came up with the idea of sassy, gospel singing muses. But really, major props to the person who wrote the songs for this movie. Some of the lyrics are *so* witty.

Quite literally where the theatrical saying “He plays the role of The Greek Chorus” comes from. The “Greek Chorus” being any character in the story whose job is to break the fourth wall and deliver exposition directly to the audience. The muses are a literal Greek Chorus.
When you think about it, the dull sounding guy might’ve told Heracles’ story more accurately (His story is quite tragic and gruesome) Then the Muses jump in to make it more upbeat and fun.

+Shaina Gonzales You sure you want people sing-narrating about you doing nothing but watching animu and laying around masturbating, full of teen angst?
Yeah, in the real story, Hercules was constantly hunted down by Hera just for existing, and he consistently killed people on accident with his brute strength and short fuse. The real Meg and her kids with Herc were killed by him while he was in a fit of madness caused by Hera. Pretty tragic to me.
Calliope (voiced by Lillias White) is the muse of epic poetry. She leads the muses and is the tallest of the five with high hair. Clio (voiced by Vanéese Y. Thomas) is the muse of history. She has a small ponytail and carries a scroll. Thalia (voiced by Roz Ryan) is the muse of comedy. She is the shortest of the five, very fat, plays a trumpet, and is often causes mischief. Terpsichore (voiced by LaChanze) is the muse of dance. She is the second-shortest of the five, with frizzy hair. She is the only muse that has ever come in contact with Hercules teaching him how to dance in "Hercules and the Muse of Dance". Melpomene (voiced by Cheryl Freeman) is the muse of tragedy. She has long, curly hair to her waist and carries a mask with a frowning face
If you're a natural hair fan, you know that: *Melpomene had a blowout *Terpsichore had Bantu knots and a twist-out *Clio had a half-up half-down topknot *Calliope had a roller set, and....well, Thalia's still relaxed lmfao😂😂😂😂😂
Right, many of Disney movies that take from something else aren’t accurate to the original source material... like... almost all of them. Don’t get it mixed up with a fresh new idea though.
What the hell people SHUT UP about it being an inaccurate description of Greek mythology! This is a cartoon for god's sake an most of Disney's movies aren't exact depicts of the stories or books! Stop treating Disney movies like they're your text books, go watch the history channel if it bothers you so much. Relax, eat pop corn an enjoy a classic movie SHEESH. (¬_¬(¬_¬)
Alice Angel The only thing I thought were strange in this beloved Disney movie, was every name in Hercules were greek, all but Hercules; Zevs, Hades, Hera, Hermes, and so on........ It should've been Herakles if you followed the same track. Still one of my favourite Disney movies
And they also left out Persephone, made Zues, Hera, and actually most gods and goddesses look way better than they actually were in Greek mythology. Not to mention how they made Hades the villain in reality it was Hera. Hades was actually one of the Kay chill gods who never really is the villain of the story except for the whole Persephone drama. Then again it was mostly Zues’s fault. Also it’s HERACLES
He abandoned his son to strangers because he was human, in this movie. Nobody was like you a God, king of three gods. You couldn't took care of him instead of using a foster care system... weird.
Fun fact: according to mythology when the titans ruled the planet there was peace and serenity in the human world. When the Olympic Gods began their ruling because they were modeled after the mere human they had flaws and made mistakes.
I think "history" is overstating the case here...Anyway there's a simple explanation: if you were telling the story of Zeus, and like the muses you had to deal with him as a(n angry, thunderbolt-hurling) part of your life, wouldn't you want to stay on his good side?
JamaicanCastle Pocahontas is a historical figure, as were the other main characters of that film. That film butchered the events that actually happened. "History" is not overstating it, though the dude may have mixed up mythology with history.
You are totally right. Without the Muses or the songs it would just be lifeless and boring and I reckon the songs help you get into the movie as well. The Muses and songs are awesome.
Fun fact: The muses plucked the sirens feathers and used them as crowns as they watched the sirens fall to the sea to slowly die and turn into mermaid like creatures
[NARRATOR, spoken] You go girls... [CALLIOPE, spoken] We are the muses Goddesses of the arts And proclaimers of heroes [TERPSICHORE, spoken] Heroes like Hercules [THALIA, spoken] Honey you mean Hunk-ules! @Jean P I'm white but tbh I don't want to see white womens as the muses, it would make zero sense. (Just like it wouldn't make sense if they pick non white actors for the roles of Hercules, Meg, Zeus and Phil.)
I love how Disney went darker and darker with their films. Littler Mermaid and The Rescuers down under were extremely lighthearted. Followed by Beauty and the Beast and Aladdin which were both slightly darker. Then the Lion King and Pocahontas both with non-villain onscreen deaths. The Hunchback of Notre Dame then being undoubtedly the darkest of all. Then was immediately followed by one of Disney's most comical and lighthearted films
Super Solver What about Clayton's death in Tarzan. I'm not saying his death is worser than Frollo's. But I found it dark that his shadow is seen on a tree after the vine snaps his neck.
Cartoon Master In my defense, I first watched that movie when I was 9. When it showed Facilier being dragged to hell, I didn't find that scary. I was a weird ass 9 year old. Now that I'm a little older, that's pretty terrifying to be *ACTUALLY* be dragged to hell, ALIVE for that matter.
Ana Wms lol okay I'll give you that...besides know what being a weird kid was like...when I first started learning about "Health" (you know what I mean) everyone laughed about talking the stork bulls*ht their parents said but I told everyone that my parents straight-up said what sex was, and while everyone's jaw was dropped, I was grinning from ear-to-ear bc I thought I was so smart XD
Cartoon Master I already knew what sex was by the time I got in 5th grade. My classmates thought I was weird, but I always thought "Well, no better time to learn about it than now." 😂😂 I know a lot of people are going to dread July 27th (a certain movie gets released that day)
my mother died when i was 4, so remember her i don't much. but my father says that she loved disney. i watch these movies all the time and think of her. i'm 15 now, and in high school. sure kids pick on me for liking disney so much but i don't care.
they'll grow older and realize how dumb they are dont worry. im 22 and i have more favorite cartoons than movies and why be ashamed of it. also the fact that someone is picking on u means that they have personal issues most of the time, which is kind of sad. about 90% of my friends dont like cartoons but we are still friends
That awkward moment when you study Greek Mythology in college and it's *NOTHING* like in Hercules or Percy Jackson. **cough** *Aphrodite's birth* **cough**
ThatOneGinge I see. Well, what happened was Zeus was having a headache, so Hephaestus whacked him on the head with a hammer, splitting it open. From the wound came Athena- fully grown and armored.
LordFhalkyn haha :P to be fair, poor Aphrodite's birth was very... graphic. Gotta give Rick Riordan credit for adapting the "brain child" for contemporary, younger audiences.
Actually, Zeus had fallen with Metis, a Titan. To stop Hera from finding out about his affair with Metis,Zeus turned Metis into a bug and sucked her up his nose into his brain.Metis was with child while in Zeus's head, and that's when Zeus had the headache and Athena was born.Metis was actually Athena's mother.
Back when the world was new The planet Earth was down on its luck And everywhere gigantic brutes called Titans ran amok It was a nasty place There was a mess wherever you stepped Where chaos reigned and earthquakes and volcanoes never slept And then along came Zeus He hurled his thunderbolt He zapped Locked those suckers in a vault They're trapped And on his own stopped chaos in its tracks And that's the gospel truth The guy was too type A to just relax And that's the world's first dish Zeus tamed the globe while still in his youth Though, honey, it may seem impossible That's the gospel truth On Mt. Olympus life was neat and Smooth as sweet vermouth Though, honey, it may seem impossible That's the gospel truth [Thanks to Natalie Muscara for corrections]
I'm more modest with the fancast. Ester Dean as Thalia, because she's a comedian, Teyana Taylor as Terpsichore, because she's a good dancer, Janelle Monae as Clio, because she appeared in a period movie (Hidden Figures), Kelly Rowland as Melpomene because she can make some incredibly sad music, and for Calliope, since the requirement is to have pipes, there's way too many possible additions to count.
It's kind of ironic how they're telling the story wrong in a song called "The Gospel Truth" Makes me wonder if they decided to joke about the fact that they were changing the story.
BlogPrincess Oh, gosh RELAX!!! It was a joke!!!! Seriously, what the heck is up with you?!? I WASN'T EVEN CRITICIZING THE MOVIE!!! I was pointing out something I thought was funny!!!!
This part they were singing about is somewhat true. Zeus defeated the titans and drove them off. The rest of the story of Herc gets fucked up because they can't have him murdering his wives. Also why they made Hades the villain is beyond me. I guess he's scary cause death?
Ben McDevitt I think the main problem people have with it is how far out of context that part is. I mean Zeus had a father, after all, so it's not like the first thing he ever did was come into existence and lock away the titans.
Everyone wants Morgan Freeman to narrate their lives, but I want 5 singing sassy muses to narrate my life and sing the cool scary etc parts

Thanks!!! : )
Wheres the other four
My God thanks c:
cheers mate
and every one of them should have been white, not black. It's greek mythology.
If you're a natural hair fan, you know that:
*Melpomene had a blowout
*Terpsichore had Bantu knots and a twist-out
*Clio had a half-up half-down topknot
*Calliope had a roller set, and....well, Thalia's still relaxed lmfao😂😂😂😂😂
Josh George lol. That's funny and true. 👑👑👑
so true
J
How so you know their names?😂
Thalia is transitioning so she just threw that wig on lol🤣
Can I just say that the Hercules movie was SO hilariously inaccurate I wanted to cry but it was awesome either way
It was never meant to be accurate.
Right, many of Disney movies that take from something else aren’t accurate to the original source material... like... almost all of them. Don’t get it mixed up with a fresh new idea though.
s i e r r a n e v a d a in class we were reading the actual myths then watched this movie, just wow
Ikr lol
There actually was a Dwayne Johnson one that came out a couple years ago and it was very inappropriate lol
"Honey, you mean HUNKules! Mmh, I'd like to make some sweet music with him-"
the lenny faces are strong with this one
(insert lenny face im too lazy to copy paste)
ᕙ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)ᕗ
( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) *lenny face intensifies*
Funny, cause the muses are Hercules’ half sisters.
Sooooo
O U R STORY?
I can relate to the little fat one on a spiritual level
Her name is Thalia, Muse of Comedy. So for that, Disney did well
*H U N C U L E S*
Joshler Dunseph same but I can also on the sizes
Amen
What the hell people SHUT UP about it being an inaccurate description of Greek mythology!
This is a cartoon for god's sake an most of Disney's movies aren't exact depicts of the stories or books!
Stop treating Disney movies like they're your text books, go watch the history channel if it bothers you so much.
Relax, eat pop corn an enjoy a classic movie SHEESH. (¬_¬(¬_¬)
My thoughts exactly.
Alice Angel Now THAT'S the gospel truth if ever I've heard it.
Alice Angel I just think of it as an Elseworld tale of Superman...plus we got what we paid for with Disney an animated epic with an amazing soundtrack
Alice Angel And the original story is too bloody for a little kid movie.
Alice Angel The only thing I thought were strange in this beloved Disney movie, was every name in Hercules were greek, all but Hercules; Zevs, Hades, Hera, Hermes, and so on........ It should've been Herakles if you followed the same track. Still one of my favourite Disney movies
I don't know why, but I love it at 1:42 when they simultaneously throw their heads back and only their mouths are visible!
disney left out Zeus being a dick.
Draugen and Hera being a bitch
And they also left out Persephone, made Zues, Hera, and actually most gods and goddesses look way better than they actually were in Greek mythology. Not to mention how they made Hades the villain in reality it was Hera. Hades was actually one of the Kay chill gods who never really is the villain of the story except for the whole Persephone drama. Then again it was mostly Zues’s fault. Also it’s HERACLES
He abandoned his son to strangers because he was human, in this movie. Nobody was like you a God, king of three gods. You couldn't took care of him instead of using a foster care system... weird.
Those hip swings tho
T H I C C
I think the sassy gospel singers are the main reason I love this movie.
+Suzume Usagi Because there's nothing better than replacing the music of one Mythology with that of another Mythology!
me too, they messed up all the Heracules myths
+Suzume Usagi Same with me. Also the songs are another reason why I like this movie, but The Muses are my favourites.
One of the best intro songs to a movie
Fun fact: according to mythology when the titans ruled the planet there was peace and serenity in the human world. When the Olympic Gods began their ruling because they were modeled after the mere human they had flaws and made mistakes.
Ohhh, ironic, never knew that.
Ahem, Excuse me there.
I think I see some Jean J.Rousseau's theory in your comment...
*COUGH* *COUGH*
And once again, Disney fucks with history: Pocahontas, Victor Hugo's The Hunchback of Notre Dame, The Little Mermaid, Mulan etc.
I swear I wanted to be one of the Muses JUST BECAUSE of this scene! lmao
+MsLia SparklenShine Same with me. The Muses are totally awesome. I just love all the scenes that they're in. I totally want to be a Muse.
Kelly Reynolds They're so funny and they brought so much life to this movie and the songs in my opinion. :)
You are totally right. Without the Muses or the songs it would just be lifeless and boring and I reckon the songs help you get into the movie as well. The Muses and songs are awesome.
me too, me too, I remember making my McDonalds Muse figurines lip sing to the radio on car trips when I was little
+Julianne Hannes omg they GAVE THE MUSES FIGURINES AT MCDONALDS!!!! I WISH TO BE YOU Dx
Fun fact:
The muses plucked the sirens feathers and used them as crowns as they watched the sirens fall to the sea to slowly die and turn into mermaid like creatures
Good
So you're telling me the Muses snatched their weave?
@@arbaazshaw8123 At 0:38, are THOSE the feathers? Oof!
Arbaaz Shaw LLLMMMAO !!!!!!!! 😭🤣
So you mean the sirens were harpies?
At 1:17 the way she sings that line gave me goosebumps 10+ years ago and it's still fucking amazing. That godly voice...
HONEY YOU MEAN *H U N K U L E S*
*G R E E K T R A G E D Y*

[NARRATOR, spoken]
You go girls...
[CALLIOPE, spoken]
We are the muses
Goddesses of the arts
And proclaimers of heroes
[TERPSICHORE, spoken]
Heroes like Hercules
[THALIA, spoken]
Honey you mean Hunk-ules!
Woohoo, I'd like to make some sweet music-
[CALLIOPE, spoken]
Our story actually begins long before Hercules
Many eons ago
(sung)
Back when the world was new
The planet earth was down on its luck
And everywhere gigantic brutes called Titans ran amok
[THALIA]
It was a nasty place!
There was a mess where ever you stepped
[CALLIOPE]
Where chaos reigned and earthquakes and volcanoes never slept
[THALIA, spoken]
Woo! Sing it girlfriend
[ALL MUSES]
But then along came Zeus!
[CALLIOPE]
He hurled his thunderbolt
[ALL MUSES]
He zapped-
[CALLIOPE]
Locked those suckers in a vault
[ALL MUSES]
They're trapped-
And on his own stopped chaos in its track
And that's the gospel truth
The guy was too type A to just relax!
[TERPSICHORE]
And that's the world's first dish
[THALIA, spoken]
Yeah, baby
[MELPOMENE]
Zeus tamed the globe while still in his youth
[ALL MUSES]
Though honey it may seem impossible
That's the gospel truth!
On Mt. Olympus life was neat
And smooth as sweet vermouth
Though honey it may seem impossible
That's the gospel truth
Clio didn't have any speaking parts
Genevieve Liew thank you
I miss this Disney! 😂😭😪
Ikr
kiki tresa Kids these days will never know...
I'm 11 and I know the old disney it looked amazing :D
Milan Forde God bless your parents. They're the real MVP's.
+Dat Nigga Beast StayOutTheWestWingBitch They will never know, I know!
...well, except that the film was heavily produced in VHS, DVD, and Bluray formats and heavily distributed in digital format.
Ima need a movie with just them STAT.
Don't give them ideas for a bad spin-off sequel that will butcher the characters.
Pepe Witnessing Birth Of Hitler why is your username so funny🤣😂😂😂
Oh-
I cant wait til they make the live action of Hercules only because i really only want to see the muses sing 😂
Deja Mcforre there are some awesome clips of the actresses singing and dancing floating around YT, definitely look them up!
@Jean P
The actual muses were white anyway
@Jean P I'm white but tbh I don't want to see white womens as the muses, it would make zero sense. (Just like it wouldn't make sense if they pick non white actors for the roles of Hercules, Meg, Zeus and Phil.)
The Muses are Ancient Greek and Caucasian. End of story!
Mélissa-Anne Frigon How would it not make sense if they were like that in the first place
This song was so classic to me as a kid.
And then Zeus popped up, and said "I'MMA PUT MUH DICK IN EVERYTHING WALKING!"
HE CANNOT KEEP THE PICKLE IN THE PICKLE JAR
He "hurled" that "thunderbolt", if you know what I mean. And I think you do.
@JamaicanCastle omg hahahahaha
As my Greek professor back in uni once said, "If it looks like a swan, acts like a swan, smells like a swan...it's probably Zeus."
The accuracy tho 👀
I love how the narrator is like "you get em ladies"
I love how Disney went darker and darker with their films. Littler Mermaid and The Rescuers down under were extremely lighthearted. Followed by Beauty and the Beast and Aladdin which were both slightly darker. Then the Lion King and Pocahontas both with non-villain onscreen deaths. The Hunchback of Notre Dame then being undoubtedly the darkest of all. Then was immediately followed by one of Disney's most comical and lighthearted films
Super Solver
What about Clayton's death in Tarzan. I'm not saying his death is worser than Frollo's. But I found it dark that his shadow is seen on a tree after the vine snaps his neck.
Or the Princess and the Frog...I mean Frollo metaphorically went to hell, Dr.Facilier LITERALLY was sent to hell!
Cartoon Master
In my defense, I first watched that movie when I was 9.
Cartoon Master
I already knew what sex was by the time I got in 5th grade. My classmates thought I was weird, but I always thought "Well, no better time to learn about it than now." 😂😂
I know a lot of people are going to dread July 27th (a certain movie gets released that day)
1:07 is me whenever I break something, I don't bother cleaning it up, just tiptoe around it.
So true
my mother died when i was 4, so remember her i don't much. but my father says that she loved disney. i watch these movies all the time and think of her. i'm 15 now, and in high school. sure kids pick on me for liking disney so much but i don't care.
they'll grow older and realize how dumb they are dont worry. im 22 and i have more favorite cartoons than movies and why be ashamed of it. also the fact that someone is picking on u means that they have personal issues most of the time, which is kind of sad. about 90% of my friends dont like cartoons but we are still friends
You're never too old to love Disney. My sister is 17, her friends are 18 and 22 and they have Disney movie days. My mum is 41 and loves Disney too.
i'll craft until the candles burn down this place I'm 18 I still watch Disney! Nd I will love Disney even I die!
I'm so sorry!! But Disney is AMAZING. Who doesn't love it?? xx
Cheesey Chickens
Idiots who have no sense of what's good don't like it.
this movie is inaccurate people are right, everyone knows mount olympus is at the top of the empire state building sheesh!
omg percy jackson XD
Why the hell did Riordan think - "Yeah, just make the Greek gods all centred around America, whatever".
Master Markus Cause America.
Master Markus
You can find out by reading the book, Bub.
Also, 'Murica.
Man, when film and TV studios were more experimental with their material. Who knew black gospel and Greek mythology would make such a combo?
Hercules: *Greek Mythology*
Disney: *_Gospel would be nice_*
HAHA ITS 1 AM AND IM DANCING TO THIS IN MY BEDROOM
+Alys You're not the only one. Lol
It's two for me XD
😂😂
+Alys gg, well done.
OMG me too
"And along came Zeus!" -Greek Mythology in a nutshell
Abby Johnson 😂😂😂😂😂
Expectations: I act just like the girl with the curly up-do!
Reality: *acts like the short girl*
that's even better
Luna Moon ... she's kinda the best there.
HONEY YOU MEAN HUNKULES
my fucking name is the same as the short girl rip me
Luna Moon we dig that
Something bout them singing in unison: "...though honey it may seeeeeeem imposs-ble" gets me every time :-O at 1:53.
That awkward moment when you study Greek Mythology in college and it's *NOTHING* like in Hercules or Percy Jackson. **cough** *Aphrodite's birth* **cough**
What about Athena?
LordFhalkyn We only studied the intro to Greek Mythology, so we never got onto Athena.

He HURRRLED his thunderbolt. FTFY
I love the fluffy muse the most! "Honey, you mean HUNKules whoohoo I'd like to make some sweet music with him!"
Fluffy :) Cute lol
Tomeesha Haller it's funny because she's cut off; "Whoo-HOO I'd like to make some sweet music with his--!"
could you imagine having her as a aunt! XD
SnowyAngel1217 I DO have her as an aunt! I have, like, 4 of her as aunts!!!
elektraeriseros lol
Beyoncé , Mariah Carey , Aretha Franklin , Whitney Houston , and Anita Baker . ❤️✨
Did they sing this intro? And appeared throughout the entire movie?
I'm more modest with the fancast. Ester Dean as Thalia, because she's a comedian, Teyana Taylor as Terpsichore, because she's a good dancer, Janelle Monae as Clio, because she appeared in a period movie (Hidden Figures), Kelly Rowland as Melpomene because she can make some incredibly sad music, and for Calliope, since the requirement is to have pipes, there's way too many possible additions to count.
@@miticaBEP07 Calliope is the muse of epic poetry.
That would've been such a great casting holy fuck
Beyoncé is Calliope
honey you mean hunkules 😘
I would love to make so sweet music with him!
+CeCekiz Joe I would love to make some sweet music with his-.*
Abraham Lincoln our story begins....
She's got it for hercules xD
+Rochell Post not gonna lie... i creamed myself 3 times when ever hercules was on screen... blood started to come out in stead after a while T~T
Hercules is such an underrated Disney film. Menken's musical score is incredible. It would make one hella awesome Broadway musical.
Emma Harkins for real dude
No
I want so badly to see a Hercules musical with these specific muses.
"And everywhere gigantic brutes called Titans ran amuck"
Eren Jaeger: Did someone say.......TITANS?!
Levena Ackerman 😂
LMAO
Levena Ackerman lol I get the reference. I like mikasa
Levena Ackerman *smash fist on the table* TITANS ARE MY TRIGGER 😠😠👹👹
Dam, that show had so many plot twist
Percy Jackson fans will know the gospel truth
@Taylar Mazon true XD
*clears throat, and swirls a wine glass of koolaid*
I see that you are a fellow person of culture....~!
Riptide
Fox Draws@ And God of War's players.
Percy or Hercules
Percy, sorry Hercules
I wish the Muses could narrate my life
Alexa Victoria omg same lol
Princess Cold ivy cakes dmdďjd
,,There was a mess wherever you stepped'' yeah, sums up pretty much my whole life :D
their vocals actually give me chills
It's kind of ironic how they're telling the story wrong in a song called "The Gospel Truth"
Makes me wonder if they decided to joke about the fact that they were changing the story.
Yes because childrens movies are always 100% accurate. Not made for entertainment or anything.
BlogPrincess Oh, gosh RELAX!!! It was a joke!!!! Seriously, what the heck is up with you?!? I WASN'T EVEN CRITICIZING THE MOVIE!!! I was pointing out something I thought was funny!!!!
PyroGothNerd
It was a really good one too -- I would not be surprised at all if it were the truth.
This part they were singing about is somewhat true. Zeus defeated the titans and drove them off. The rest of the story of Herc gets fucked up because they can't have him murdering his wives. Also why they made Hades the villain is beyond me. I guess he's scary cause death?
Ben McDevitt
I think the main problem people have with it is how far out of context that part is. I mean Zeus had a father, after all, so it's not like the first thing he ever did was come into existence and lock away the titans.
"You go girls."
