Starter motors are indeed made of better quality in modern vehicles and designed to last for thousands of starts. Just think about the vehicles that shutdown at stop signs and red lights… they restart many times each vehicle trip.
I installed at stopper in my vehicle so it no longer does that.
Mine has that auto stop feature. I HATE it. I wish I could turn it off, but unforgettably my car doesn’t offer that. My starter sounds like crap now. It’s a 2017 with about 130,000 on it so it’s been stopped and started many times.
@@amandahorvath6072find the fuse for it 😂
Did it today, it worked. Some hiccups:
1) had difficulty removing the 2nd panel, the video did not show how. Learned hard way that (after rekoving the hand tightened nut), pull the panel not toward you but rightsidewise.
2) after connecting the black connector while press-holding the programming button, the lights actually just forever continue to blink alternately through the three colors; it wouldn't stop at the blue on its own (unfortunately the video here implied that the lights go permenently blue on it's own). You actually have to watch it closely and once it is the blue light that is ON (in the cycle) you release the button, then the light remains at blue and no longer cycles to the other colors. (Learned this from StartX support.)
Awesome. Glad it worked out
I might add this to my 98 4Runner. Give it some modern day love
Have you done the install yet? Was thinking of doing this for my 98 Avalon but don't know the risks.
@@Mas_zeppelin no not yet. I was extremely busy with my final semester at college and trying to pass. Buuuut thankfully I graduated a week ago so I’ll now have time to do this. Just gotta figure out when…
for older models, i think MoboKey is a better option. It doesn't cost much and installing is not a problem!
Praying for you brother. Love everything y'all do. Get well and from all of us im sure, take your time.
Thank you for the video, helped me program my new starter. The directions that came with it were not clear.
Glad this was helpful
If you are working on a different vehicle, know that all connectors may not be used on the remote that you get for your vehicle. I have a 2012 Chevy Traverse. The black box on mine has 5 connector openings on the box. Only the red and blue connectors are used.
Good to know. Thx
cool but it's kinda stupid how it shuts off after opening the door rather than remaining running i feel like that defeats the purpose
It's a Toyota thing. Depends on your purpose. I use it to warm up the car during the winter and it works great!
@AutoSensation so the shutting off after opening the door happens with every toyota?
If I didn’t know any better, I’d say that’s a fortin EVO-ALL module in a rebranded case for more money 🤣
it would be nice if the car stayed on when you got in so that the starter does not get extra wear and tear
There is no concern for extra wear on a starter. These things are designed to start a car hundreds of thousands of times.
It’s so people don’t just steal the car
@@ticenits1926 let's say that's 500 thousand times... let's say you install this but you've already started it 20 thousand times... so that means you now have a starter life expectancy potentially as low as 240 thousand more starts when you should have 480... ( granted that is assuming you use the remote starter to start the vehicle every time after installation... which obviously is unlikely for most people) So what does that equate to in years of life? IDK, are you an uber driver or a once a day commuter... for those of us concerned about the longevity of our starters.... I'd have to venture that most know we aready start our vehicles several times a day, maybe even 25 to 30 times a day (ie delevery people)... or in my case I have a 27 yr old tacoma that has all OEM parts... I won't settle for a Duralast starter from AutoZone so getting a 'new' starter can be an issue for me sometimes... I try to get un-used old stock or the same part that's still in use in current production models, but in the case of my starter the best I could find were used (salvage recovery) cleaned and tested. I have a back up already. I do plan on installing remote start, but only to pre-heat the engine and cabin on really, really cold days. Still I may consider other options. I've seen one that gives you 30 seconds to put in the key and turn it to start once you open the door... another option I've consittered is to have a door sensor button over-ride switch hidden so that I can fool the system into thinking the doors are closed all the time. I have a seperate alarm system so I can just place my bypass after the alarm but before the remote start so that my alarm still works... the only caveat with that method is that my alarm will sound when I go to get in my truck if I forget to turn it off first. No keyless entry, no electric locks so no worries there, it's a simple ol' truck, just a momentary button in the door jam... so it would be simple to do... the system with the delay it's nice but it's also 150 bucks and requires ODB3 but my truck only has ODB2... so... anyways I'm rambling but my point was, doubling the starts for every time you use it is significant for some of us.
@@ticenits1926that’s not the starter they’re talking about
Their concern is valid and it’s related to the actual starter module of the vehicle, like, the thing that actually triggers the ignition when you turn the key. They’re NOT talking about this remote starter, which I’m sure is fine.
Additional and unnecessary cranking on your starter is indeed a concern for every vehicle.
@@colinpeddle I know what they're talking about. The starter motor of a car will not be harmed by starting a few hundred times more than the thousands of times it's already designed for. This isnt the 1950's anymore.

Be nice to know what year and make this is being installed on in the title. Otherwise great video.😅
Looks like a Prius
Why would you want the engine to shut off when you open the door?
Is there a way to program it so the car stays on when the door is opened? I don’t want to constantly have to stop and restart the engine when I get in my car in the cold winter months.
Unfortunately, I don't thing so. It's a Toyota feature to shut off when doors open
This may seem like a dumb question but do you leave the module plugged in or can it be removed once it is installed?
Leave it installed for remote start to work.
You need to release the button once you see the blue light. I don't know why you cut the video at that part. I hope it's not intentional.
No not intentional, but yes you are correct
Just wanted to drop by and say, "THANK YOU" for an excellent install video. Just got done installing this on my 2010 Prius. I would say 3/10 on a difficulty level (would almost say 4 or 5 had it not been for your video). Start-X install video was trash.
Glad the video helped.
Holy smokes that seems dang easy. And tells me what I need to get, spent alot of time researching what exactly I needed. But what kind of range about 100 feet I would guess same as the key fob for the locks?
Yea. Same as key fob
@AutoSensation thanks, and great video did sub.
This was same brand I was looking at went to their site still could not get direct answer on what I needed. What model did you use if you remember?

The start x programming box, how long do i need to wait until all lights are blue?
Its been about 5min...
I think the newer version you don't have to wait anymore. Just press.
Oh ok. I was waiting for it to stay solid blue. I now know you have to time your release when it's on blue. Thanks
I love what you're doing here. Can this start x work well on a Toyota progres 2001?
None for the progres

Nothing for 2005 TSX
What’s the engine run time before it shuts down? I need something that can be remotely started and left for 30min. Thanks
15 mins but you can restart again if needed.
@@AutoSensation I just noticed you can change it in the Flash Link Manager settings with the updated firmware. Up to 60min of run time for people like me that live in the frigid cold up north. 15min isn’t enough to warm up the vehicle. Thanks for posting this install guide.
Why they don’t make this start X remote for a Acura RLX 2020 I was searching but I couldn’t find any, so sad.
I tried looking too. Not sure why one was not made.
Can this be installed on 2018 MITSUBISHI OUTLANDER PHEV?
Unfortunately not for PHEV
I installed a regular remote starter x to my hybrid Corolla. Is that okay?
Should be okay
Why the Step 1 not going blue light? If I released the power button then it will turn to blue. Is that okay? But I did it anyway until the last step, even the first step it didn't turn blue, step 2 to last step worked, but the check engine light came on, and the module didn't work because the check engine light was on. I hope you can help me 🙏
Yeah. If it turns blue after releasing that works. Check engine light came on? I'm not sure. Try disconnecting the battery then reconnecting. Then try programming again.
Where do you order that start x remote control kit n how much does it cost
You can get them from amazon. What vehicle do you have?
I just installed remote starter on my 2009 rav4 diesel European spec. It was easy ...hardest part is working in small space other then that it plug and play. I had to connect the cable provide to ignition cable then obd2 cable then program that it. Mine is pts not key.
Awesome! Yes. Hardest part is tight spaces and removing panels for certain vehicles.
Does it work for Hyundai Ioniq Hybrid 2017?
Unfortunately, not at the moment
IF I HIT THE LOCK BUTTON 3 X IT WILL START...ONCE I WALK UP TO THE CAR I HIT THE OPEN BOTTON, ONCE I OPEN MY DOOR WILL IT SHUT OFF!?
OR IT WILL STAY RUNNING UNTIL I PUT MY KEY IN THE IGNITION?
I SAW A VID THAT IT SHUT OFF ONCE THE DOOR WAS OPENED .
Depending on the make of the car. The vehicle will shut off once the door is open. i know toyota will shut off when the door opens can say for others.
I was wondering if this would be very similar to a 2013 dodge dart Aero manual or would i need a special harness to bypass pushing down the clutch to start?
You would need a specific harness for your vehicle.
I do not understand where to use ziptie. Today I am going to work on.
Also do not understand why we need additional 30 pin for OBD outlet. What’s the purpose?
Zip ties are to clean up wiring. Keep them nice and neat. The OBD is so you just tap in and still have a OBD port to plug in when needed.
I am confused with the first extension wire which you connect to obd.
helllo! my green light never shows on the first step, any clues?
Do you mean blue light? Some say that you have to hold the program button, connect the black harness, let the light cycle at least once then release the program button.
Do I need to connecting to flash link updater after installing.
No not that I know
Thank you very much.
Do you know if it works for 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer?
Not for the Lancer
Does it absolutely have to have an OEM key fob? I have an aftermarket that was programmed to the car...

Ranges seem to differ from vehicle to vehicle. It may be how far your key FOB range is or maybe the battery is running low on the FOB
how far distance can we start the car. Can we restart after 15 minutes?
Uses your keyfob. So same distance your keyboard reaches. Yes you can restart.
Good video. Thank you for posting. I am thinking about getting one of these for my wife's 2016 Prius. Do you think it hooks up the same way and have you ran into any problems after having it installed for a while?

I’ve had my startX for my 9th gen Honda Accord LX for over a year now and a recent problem that has came up is my remote is glitching out. The Lock button is now Unlocking the car and all other below the lock button are not working or will work randomly but still won’t be consistent. This issue was happening for a couple days so I had went to buy a new battery and it seemed to have solved the problem for about a couple days up until recently again it started glitching. Anyone else have this issue? I’ve contacted their customer support and have been communicating with someone about it, the next step is to disconnect everything and connect the original harness back together and if everything goes back to normal on the remote try to plug everything back in.
I would try resetting the moule then programming again.
