Pyongyang naengmyeon is a helping of cold noodles bearing the name of the North Korean capital that has become a signature dish of the reclusive state. The dish consists of buckwheat noodles with a cold mild broth, an egg, meat, kimchi and vegetables, and the restaurant best known for serving it is Okryu-gwan in Pyongyang. The restaurant’s chef served the dish to South Korean President Moon Jae-in during the 2018 inter-Korean summit at the Panmunjom peace village along the border between the two Koreas.

They have almost the same cuisine. It's not as if they are on a different continent.
I remember having these in China when I was a child, they are super delicious and great in the summertime since it's cold. A lot of tourist sites would sell them for easy consumption.
Why is something filmed in 2018, now considered news. This is depressing to say the least.
The story is current and the first half was filmed recently. They're just showing footage from 2018 to demonstrate just how famous the noodle place is.
That means the restaurant is still popular or they have no other news

People are much more relaxed when they don’t have a gun pointed at them. They didn’t even look like they are acting in this one.
These are the middle class/upper class citizens they don't get treated like that. Just the threat of becoming lower class is enough to pacify them, which now that I think about it isn't exclusive to North Korea.

You can make cold noodles at home they sell buckwheat noodles at any Asian supermarket and you can find cold noodle recipes online. No need to risk your life over a summer comfort food/winter struggle food.

the broth is vinegar-y and sweet and the ice cubes are a hassle so I’m not sure if non-Asians would like it the taste but you should definitely still try it, it’s great dish to eat in the summertime

Naengmyeon is the go to summer food in Korea and is usually associated with the heat, interesting to see it came from the chillier North

In Los Angeles K-Town Galleria, there's a foodcourt stall that sells Galbi and Naengmyeon. My fav to go during summer.
San Diego Grandma's Tofu house is also my favorite for Naengmyeon and Bulgogi.

Social-economical landscape was different in the '50s. The US was much superior, albeit with a reduced strength after downsizing the army. The North really didn't have the means to push the UN forces all the way back, the negotiation table was the best they could have hoped for. I mean Trumen could even have approved General MacArthur's request to deploy nuclear weapons should things get really bad. And that would be just terrible - not only for the Koreans and Chinese but for humanity as well.
