I don't know why people are criticizing his mistakes (the boy) - it is after all a "class" not an actual performance. I think he did a fantastic job and he will be a great pianist if he keeps it up. To all those who are quick to judge and criticize, what Masterpiece did YOU play at 11 years of age?

What a kind and generous man is Lang Lang. His passion and enthusiasm to help this kid shows great admiration for the young and upcoming young lad. Even I learnt a thing or two. Good on you Lang Lang . Great masterclass which had me spellbound.
What a load of nonsence. He plays it well and it IS his level. He has massive hands and "Power" as you call it is weight and not force. You don't need muscles....
Lang Lang is a wonderful teacher and role model. Meanwhile, that kid's a very bright muscian--a quick study who immediately understood the coaching he was receiving in phrasing and articulation. Beautiful to watch this.
Was very reluctant to chime in, but kudos to Lang Lang for having just the right touch in every respect. He gave very kind guidance, culminating in "don't kill yourself." It was such an honest and gentle way of saying that Thomas should grown into this piece, it's a little bit beyond his grasp right now. But he was completely encouraging, and above all supportive, while telling the boy he should focus on practicing with love, not to be a keyboard gladiator, which will only backfire. Just the right "touch." Btw, beautiful playing from Lang Lang on thd orchestra part, clearly showing his years of experience (probably a hundred performances) of this piece. What I enjoyed most about it was the freshness he played it with: clearly knows the music inside out, but this was an opportunity to be "on thd other end," and he brought out the nuances as only someone with that experience could, even more than a conductor who can only convey the interpetation through other musicians. Here you had the orchestra part refined to its purests essence that an actial orchestra would dilute. So I'm rather in agreemebt with those finding this strangely nicer than a real orchestra. This also of course made it more intimate, less bombastic than a 60 piece orchestra. So much to appreciate in this, but most of all Lang lang's gentle supportiveness and genuine caring towards a very accomplished pupil who must take care that ambition (his own or perhsps his parents') doesn't become counterproductive. "Don't break your hands." "Don't kill yourself." Seems to me those are wise, and truly caring, words.
Wonderful. And thank you Lang Lang for your contribution to young people everywhere..of course I am always enjoying your beautiful music mastery. Thank you. DeeKing USA
