nbkcq28 I like plenty of his films but the whole concept of the talking toilets is one of many reasons I can't stand Virgin Trains. They try far too hard to be zany and wacky, and it's incredibly annoying.
When I travel 1st class with Virgin west coast I have got lucky once or twice and have been given 2 dinners and cleared a whole bottle of wine. Think the stewardess must have liked me lol
Hello Paul, I am just watching your train series for the the first time. Loving it! I love trains. I am from Toronto. I have traveled on several routes in Canada.
Thank you Paul for these magnificent trip reports you did this and all the previous years. I am also going on First Class to Glasgow on the Pendolino from London so now I know how it is going to be like !
The talking toilet was a whole other level of creepy and annoying! And that "dinner" was more of a snack. I'm still shaking my head at myself because I read Stockport as Stockpot at first! Great video! I love your plane reviews, but now that I've discovered your train ones, I'm hooked!
Did a Pendolino trio from Edinburgh to Preston recently and was surprised by how small the food portions have become. But it’s the same on East Coast too. Great report.
Manchester Piccadilly -- I took the train from there to Huddersfield to visit a great aunt several times as a small boy in the fifties. The train shed was smokey and filled with chugging and snorting steam behemoths, impressive at my tender age then. You've not really taken a train ride unless its a steam train in the Pennine Tunnel to Huddersfield. Mother would urgently warn me and my brother to NEVER open the window in the tunnel. Stockport was our weekly shopping destination, and Wilmslow and Macclesfield were mystery towns south of where I lived. Not having a car and not having any need to go there meant I never once set foot in either town!
Too bad we didn't get to see the IJmuiden to Newcastle ferry crossing. I am very curious about that, as I will be taking it for my holidays with my family this year...
I would be interested about the DFDS trip as we have sent numerous complaints, especially with regard to the carriage of pets but without getting a response. Hope you enjoyed the booze cruise!
Best Wishes for a Fun Filled 2018 Paul. Can’t wait to see the 4K HD. Thanks for the entertaining videos through 2017. Like the style of your reporting. Cheers !
Nice to finish off the year with a Train Trip Report, all be it bit of a disappointment, certain aspects.. Happy New Year Paul, look forward to your delightful offerings in 2018, & in 4K Wow! Cheers..
Stockport! Wish video was during daylight. In the late 1960s, I spent a year as a Yank foreign student at Cheadle Hulme School (originally the Manchester Warehousemen and Clerks Orphan School) in Cheshire. To visit my granduncle in Birmingham, I'd have to catch the local north to Stockport in order to ride the express south. Still I enjoyed this trip report. Hau'oli Makahiki Hou! Happy New Year from Hawai'i!
Great video Paul, the dinner wasn’t even that, more like a hot snack. Have a great new year and I’m looking forward to seeing your trip reports in the new year on 4K. Take it easy.
Nice presentation. I've dined a fair bit on Virgin and I do agree about ''dinner' It's not a dinner but more like a snack although I have always been happy with the offering on To./from Glasgow. and to Newcastle, both from MK or Peterborogh. The best food is in the morning and a full english breakfast. I wonder what wil change if/when Virgin loose the Franchise.
That talking toilet with an American accent on an English train is well funny 😂 Have a happy new year 2018 Paul and thanks for your professionalism over 2017..😊👍
Last time I took Virgin 1st class was probably 7 or 8 years ago, London to Glasgow. The food and service were really good. Looks as if they've gone downhill.
I agree with you paul the so called dinner was crap.back in the 70s when i was a waiter on the trains (man picc - euston it was silver service and you got soup a main course dessert and cheese and biscuits.
Hi Paul - thanks for uploading video is it really worth paying for first class on virgin trains looks pretty poor to me and what are those toilets all about! … ps are you a dons fan?
I only flew on it in December, a couple of weeks ago. It was shot with the new camera and so it’ll go out in the new year. Probably second week of January.
Thumbs up to the vid once again but yes I agree with you there's no way you could call that a main dinner, it looked more like a starter! I don't care how tasty it was, there wasn't enough if it.
Ref the comment on meal sizes....On Virgin east coast, its the same Paul! its more of a snack than a meal TBH. If only travelling to Pboro/Grantham you only get sandwiches.........unbelievable Jeff! Another great trip report.....
Strange toilets (I really don’t want Will Farrell talking to me in the toilet). I thought Milton Keynes was a large department store. 🤣😂 Surprise to me! That food looked terrible.
Mostly foreign ones. Italo, SJ, Trenhotel, Eurostar, Nightjet. Probably take in the ATW Premier as well. And maybe a heritage railtour with premier dining.
That dinner looks shocking, the Coffee usually keeps me going though lol, I do enjoy traveling First Class on the 390s, another great video, looking forward to seeing what you do next year.
Great report! There is clearly some unfortunate marketing going on with the use of the word "Dinner." However, the staff seemed very friendly, respectful and attentive, and that's really all that matters for me. Cheers!
I was in 'shock and awe' mode with that toilet--does the seat really lock in place? Interesting that the voice is apparently American, speaking to UK residents. As for the food, don't complain, its free! I would imagine if asked politely, the onboard staff would give you seconds. As for the first class lounge, does the lounge attendant buzz you in or what? Don't know how lounge staff can check as to whether food and drink is being carried outside the facility--I'm just amazed how frequent trains run in the UK,I wish US citizens had that range of departures to choose from here--loved that quick scene of the container train zipping by after arrival
The voice is Will Ferrell, promoting a film. The food also isn’t free, it’s part of the reason you upgrade into First Class in the first place. If there was no food, the fare would be cheaper. Inclusive food tends to be poor - that’s why I prefer a model where you purchase your own, even in First Class. As long as the fare reflects it of course. The food is bound to be better and more satisfying if the staff have to present a bill to you after you’ve eaten it.
Hey Paul. Do you have any trips to America coming soon? Would love to see you do a flight in or too America soon. If you don't, that's fine. Love your videos man! :)
I’m due in the US in June this year. On the list: SunCountry First Class, Spirit, Frontier, AA 737max, AA 757, United 757 Transcon Business, Alaska E75 and more....
I've travelled the section between Manchester Piccadilly to York on more than one occasion and I'll tell you, it's pretty good. Especially when you go first class.
Hi Paul, I'll remember on the journey from Euston to Manchester Friday nite 9pm standing up full train know were to sit down paid full price kev Philippines ,anyway always greaT videos
I love how you can totally just take dogs on British trains and nobody cares. Dogs on trains and dogs in pubs are two of my favorite British things, because you almost never see that here in the US.
Thanks for some great reviews in 2017 Paul, looking forward to your 2018 adventures, you are right that was a joke calling that fish & potatoes a "Dinner" i could have eaten that in two mouthfuls, all the best for 2018 mate : )
gwr have the monoply from my town to london so first fares are just stupid! the best you can hope for is a cheap weekend upgrade, but i hate that i like to know im in first before i travel, love all tour work looking forward to 2018 on pauls trip reports!
God trip, even if you fond the size of the meal somewhat tiny, but, if I remember rightly, on the east coast line and the GWR (one exeption), there is no complimentary food, and only tea and coffee is free. On the short haul routes pay for all! (I think) Anyway, have an even better 2018 than 2017. Thanks a lot.
Food is complimentary on Virgin East Coast too. GWR have a Pullman service. I don’t like the model of complimentary food because the quality is invariably quite poor. The food is always better when the staff have to present a bill at the end, and as long as the train fare reflects the fact no food is included, I definitely prefer paying separately.
Have a Happy New Year and see you on the other side, with 100% improved videos in 4K!
What device are you going to use for recording?
Happy new year to you too. I look forward to seeing the new 'improved' 4k videos :0)
50fps as well I hope! Happy new year Paul.
Happy new year Paul - thanks for the great channel!
Happy New year!.... hope you can salvage some of the Ferry footage, would love to see that
Thanks for a great year of reviews!!
Oh my god, the talking toilets. Virgin are so bloody cheesy.
nbkcq28 I like plenty of his films but the whole concept of the talking toilets is one of many reasons I can't stand Virgin Trains. They try far too hard to be zany and wacky, and it's incredibly annoying.
pp37903 I love it haha.
What the hell? It would just drive me crazy having audio advertisements annoying you in the toilet

When I travel 1st class with Virgin west coast I have got lucky once or twice and have been given 2 dinners and cleared a whole bottle of wine. Think the stewardess must have liked me lol
Amazing!!! The seats, the food, the design, EVERYTHING!!!🙂

I just subbed a few weeks ago and i think your trip reports are on fleek, kinda cool to see how things are different between Canada and Europe
The talking toilet was a whole other level of creepy and annoying! And that "dinner" was more of a snack. I'm still shaking my head at myself because I read Stockport as Stockpot at first! Great video! I love your plane reviews, but now that I've discovered your train ones, I'm hooked!
That toilet is disturbing...
Newcastle Flyer no it cracks me up 🙏🤣😂🤣🤣
It is only a bathroom if it has a bath
Newcastle Flyer mums life it speaks to u while he taking a shit
Not the sort of place to drop your pants.
Hello There, great Trip Report, it was good to see your perspective on the lounge etc. Cheers Peter :) p.s. love the train announcements.
Did a Pendolino trio from Edinburgh to Preston recently and was surprised by how small the food portions have become. But it’s the same on East Coast too. Great report.
Love your videos bru. Love how informative you are!

12:40 How fast was that goods train traveling?
75 mph/120 km/h max.
Too bad we didn't get to see the IJmuiden to Newcastle ferry crossing. I am very curious about that, as I will be taking it for my holidays with my family this year...
Great video Paul keep up the good work 👍👍👍👍
Thank you very much for all your video you have been sharing with us in 2017 - I am looking forward to those ones of 2018!!

Love your work mate , keep it up ...
I really like the West Coast pendolino trains over the IC225 on the East, even in Standard it is great
I always enjoy your videos. Cheers. Jim. Australia.
What time was the meal served? What would you call it? Be specific.
I was in the Manchester lounge, the staff said I could see the cab of a Pendolino (390131) It was amazing!
Nice video! Looks pretty nice on virgin 👍:)
5:18 That's just hilarious, now I really wish I was on one of those trains

BTW at what speeds does this train runs?
Happy new year, Paul!
Will we get to see the DFDS review or is it no good anymore?
Happy new year Paul!!
What type of railcard are you using?
A Disabled Person’s railcard.
I just subscribed loving your reviews!
I enjoy your comments on the "dinner" 🍴very lovely. 😄
Happy New Year Paul.
That talking toilet with an American accent on an English train is well funny 😂
Have a happy new year 2018 Paul and thanks for your professionalism over 2017..😊👍
Have you considered doing the gwr Pullman breakfast train, one of the greatest journeys I have ever taken
I did the GWR Pullman a few months ago, a full lunch service, video is on my channel.
This is my favourite train journey.
Last time I took Virgin 1st class was probably 7 or 8 years ago, London to Glasgow. The food and service were really good. Looks as if they've gone downhill.
Any Eurostar videos on here? had a quick look but didn't see any.Not been on it yet and wondered what 1st class is like if they do that on it.
Happy New Year to you also.

you could do greater anglia from london to norich on class 90
Did you complain to Virgin about the Dinner?
I’ve written them a constructive email about it but I don’t expect to hear back until new year.
@@Paul_Lucas Did you ever hear back? (just discovered and subscribed to your channel)
The toilet has the Richard Branson Voice?
Dislike using trains but always enjoy your reports. Keep up the good work 👍🏻

Strange toilets (I really don’t want Will Farrell talking to me in the toilet). I thought Milton Keynes was a large department store. 🤣😂 Surprise to me! That food looked terrible.
I have travelled from Crewe to Milton Keynes Central with Virgin Trains!
Happy new Year!
Awesome Video Paul, just subscribed. One question, have you thought about doing cross country?
Thanks Harvey. CrossCountry are very expensive and offer a very poor First Class service, so it doesn’t really make for a viable video.
Really? I never knew that. What train operators are you thinking of travelling on this year?
Mostly foreign ones. Italo, SJ, Trenhotel, Eurostar, Nightjet. Probably take in the ATW Premier as well. And maybe a heritage railtour with premier dining.
Any English ones? Love the idea of a railtour though. Have you thought of doing south western railway, transpennine express?
No, I’ve already done GWR Pullman, EMT, both Virgin TOCs so there’s else little of interest that would make a compelling video in my style.
That dinner looks shocking, the Coffee usually keeps me going though lol, I do enjoy traveling First Class on the 390s, another great video, looking forward to seeing what you do next year.
Yep but id rather eat that than have nothing,be greatfull for being able to eat

Yes, Transpennine Express operate regular direct trains even at unsocial hours.

I liked the "talking Bathroom".
I thought that was an epic journey! 👍👍

Maybe you could try Virgin East Coast in 1st class for a comparison. The seats are significantly better IMO
I’ve got a video on this channel from about a year ago. :-) I’ll probably take them again this year though.
