I was hoping to never need to leave a pinned comment about this!!! But I feel it’s needed..
Our kids are wearing their seat belts!! Laine has to get up from time to time to get kids things or take them to the bathroom. But she also wears her seatbelt but was being ornery since I told her to. Thanks for your concern. But we will not allow rude comments about seatbelts nor will we get into a debate or allow a debate to be had on our channel. We will delete those comments if needed. Thanks everyone and hope y’all understand!

Couple of things I'd like to mention, you should have Tire Minders on the Jeep if you don't already, Lyf did and their brake or something on their toad caught fire....if they didn't have their Tire Minders, the MH could have caught fire.
Gas station....if you start the sale at the pump over, you'll be able to fill up.
Lane, I use to get up and walk around, never again! 😢
My husband had to brake, he did it lightly but I went flying!!! I was badly injured.
      Please stay safe.
GOD Bless You Both and your Family! 🙏💕🙏

@@carlaj38 I only said what I said because I read that some older class As did not have any front seatbelts..meaning Mom and Dad could not use them because they were not there at all!!! My mistake for having incorrect information, so I am sorry!!!! 😔 I have 6 kids and also too would likely get up to check on kids. Last summer, I had a disc rupture in my neck out of the blue requiring emergency surgery, so safety has become a more important concern for me, now. But, even so I dont question their parenting skills, they are excellent parents! I was questioning the actual companies who dont install sestbelts in vehichles, even buses...I feel like people then at least have a choice to use or not use. Loftis Family, please accept my apology....

The latest research supports controlled braking. You're supposed to use it in context of the 5-3 method. For other readers, 5-3 is when you determine your safe speed (35 mph) brake with enough pressure where you're only applying constant pressure for 3 seconds to bring you 5 mph below your safe speed (30 mph). Wait for your truck to reach that safe speed again (35) and repeat the 5-3 method. That's controlled braking.
Some old timers still use constant pressure and swear by it.
No matter how you do yours you always have to have air or your gong to get in to trouble real fast.. Your brakes WILL lock up when you run low on air. So if your stabbing the brakes to much over a long down hill your where more or less geared to high when you started.if you loose I would go in to the old timers way and press and hold 5 lbs and give you compressor time to make up the loss or bring that rig to a stop before it takes off on you..

I would recommend you use adjustable spring rods in the fridge to help stop things from spilling out of the fridge. Put several rods on each shelf. Put a throw or small carpet strip in front of fridge just in case something spills, especially liquids. It will be easier to clean the rug instead of all over the flood. In addition if the kids guard doesn't work all that well use a couple of velcro strips to hold freezer and fridge doors and attach to a magnet on the side. Best of luck ya'll.

@@LoftisPartyofSix Ah, I see wonder if its possible to just route to the side corner? It might get worse as you head west into hotter temps. Oh, and this might be antithetical to conventional wisdom on climbing hills, but if you have the power, try climbing at a faster speed (and if you're comfortable). Slower speeds also = more time climbing, heat soaking the engine and trans, where a faster - shorter climb time might prevent over-heating. Whatever works best for you and your machine :)

I’m still trying to figure it out because it overheated 2 times today on Hwy 191 going to Rock Springs. It was a long uphill and I had plenty of power but engine was getting overheated so I pulled over to let it cool off.

@@LoftisPartyofSix Yep, you'll have to experiment with speed and throttle. Any load you can move to the genny while climbing is better. hi just couple of suggestions based on what we do. We estimate how much gas we need, go inside and prepay to ensure we can always fill up. Quakehold Museum putty. I put that on everything sitting on my counters and never have to put a thing away inside the RV before we drive off. All I have to do is make sure all doors are latched and drawers closed, bring in the slides and we are good to go.

My first diesel pusher had a cat on a freightliner chassis that started to run hot when going up grades. I learned that because it had a rear radiator that debris, especially when traveling in the rain would kick up off the road and get sucked into the radiator. Every couple of years I would soak the radiator fins with simple green and then VERY CAREFULLY rinse them to get all that built up gunk out off them. After that it would run up grades with no issues. Hope this helps you!

Loftis Party of Six - weROAM guess I was late to the party, but I'm glad you figured it out. Hopefully that resolves your problem. I did mine about every other year, unless we were in Arizona or other very dusty places. Ive spoken to many rv mechanics, and I usually ask the ones who seem to really know their stuff what are the main causes of issues on these engines.. many have told me overheating.

The check engine light shouldn’t be on while driving. Perhaps look into a code reader there maybe something else going on. Also since it’s an older model it’s a good idea to do a thorough liquid overhaul, ie... oil, brake fluids, anti freeze, etc... & of course filters. My husband said the radiator fins needed to be cleaned as well. We bought an older class A about 2 yrs ago and tow a Jeep - we love it and it also had some overheating issues going up hills and such. I think it’s great you are getting your family out and enjoying life. Safe travels! 💕. Ps. Love the remodel you did. It’s great to make your house a home and by personalizing it you did just that.

Yes, filling up at a regular gas station they often only allow a $100 maximum purchase. In the 9 years I've been motorhoming I fill to the max and then when that shuts off I switch to a different card to pump to full when I'm fueling up with the cars. However if you go to truck stops and fill up with the 18 wheelers they usually require you to go in and pre-authorize what you think you will need $150, $200, $300 and then go back in to get a receipt for the actual pumped amount. In fact my rig when towing is 57.5 feet so I actually find it easier than trying to get into a car oriented gas station for my diesel. I just found your channel so I would be interested to see your youtubes when you were driving the duelly. I have been thinking recently that maybe a Suburban and Travel Trailer might be a better way to go for our situation (2 retired adults and 2 100 lb dogs). Enjoy your travels and I'll be with you in spirit!

I thought the same about needing a seatbelt... this comes from me because while my parents, grand mother, myself and my sister were traveling on vacation (I was 5 and my sister was 9) back in 1968. Seatbelts were not enforced and some cars didn’t even have seat belts... it was late and we were traveling between Nevada and California in the desert and my mother told my sister and I to come lay down to sleep (it was a VW Bus that had a bed, refrigerator stove etc.) back then it was pretty high-tech ha ha! We had the front passenger tire blowout which caused the van to veer into the shoulder of deep sand and flipped several times and we were all thrown out of the vehicle. Alive but all of us were injured.. no cell phones back then so a truck driver stopped to help.. he had a CB in radioed for an ambulance. He put out flyers to warn traffic that may happen along the way. Another car came along and stopped she was a nurse... while we were sitting off of the road and the van was upside down in one of the lanes a drunk driver came and ran all of us over... killing my mother father grandmother severely injuring the nurse that stopped to help and my sister and I and the truck driver were injured but not fatally. It all happened so fast. So my sister and I were raised by our 19 year old sister and we grew up without our parents. So Being stubborn can cost you your life and change your kids lives forever. Be safe during your travels.

First thing I noticed was how creative you all are about the car seats and seat belts for the kids. Love traveling along with you all. Also, do you think you can put a kiddy latch or some kind of attachment on your freezer to help stop it from coming open while traveling? That might help...? Be careful, but have fun! We are a family of 5 (2 adults 3 kids) and we have drive a class A motor home as well. Not a diesel but a Thor ACE with bunk beds in it. We don’t live in it, but we do go for long camping trips and hope to start traveling full time in the summer becasue we really love our house and where we live, but FL gets very hot in the summer so going away is the perfect solution! BUT we have a class A for the same reason, traveling with little kids in a small space is not fun at all! We rented a camper once and it was the last.. at least while they are young. The Class A makes everything so easy! My son got sick on one of the trips and made it to the toilet vs puking all over the vehicle. Potty training is a breeze because they can go and you don’t have to worry about pulling over some where... and mommy can tend to any issue the littles have so much quicker and easier. It’s so nice to see another family using the Class A as I always see the travel trailer which is great for the bunk room but bad for traveling. We also use the generator while driving for added AC and tv when the kids get super bored. Looking forward to watching you adventures!

Just came from there back to Indiana. Durango was our favorite. Check out the Bayfield RV park just east of Durango super nice-$45 though. If you're Harvest Host members, there is a nice experience between Durango and the Cliff Dwellings (Mesa Verde) ; it's an Alpaca farm. That's free and the kids might like it, a great staging camp for Mesa Verde. Wolf Creek Pass is over 11K feet--engine braking, on 160 north of Durango. See the steam train in Durango--kind of expensive for travel for 6 tho. It's station is in Duango. Take your Jeep to Silverton to hit the trails there.

Notify your bank you are traveling and to expect to see large amounts of high fuel purchases. My bank stopped my credit card usage until I called them and told them I was traveling and need it reactivated again. And, some station will limit a debit card fuel purchase to $100! but allow $150 fuel purchases on credit cards. You can get the clerks to override the cutoff and let you pump all you want. But that means having to go in first, let them know and leave you card with them before pumping. Their protection from drive offs. Truck stops usually dont have limits on their credit cards if you pump in the truck bays. But truck stops will charge more per gallon for non cash purchases. Get a truck stop credit card and you can save some money. Pilot! Loves TA etc.

Just subscribed yesterday and love what you both are doing for your family! Yes, having a Class A is wonderful!!! You can do anything you want for jobs, traveling and trucker deals at truck stops. How come you don't pull your RV into a truck stop where trucks go to fill up? You can get a rewards card and add up points for free drinks, showers, food and merchandise. Loves, Pilot/Flying-J and Petro/TA's are great on Rewards. Also, your card won't shut down where trucks fuel cause the limit is 500 gallons per card. Where in the 4-wheeler area to fuel, the limit I think is 50 gallons and your card will shut off. Y'all be safe!

As far as getting hot. It could all be climbing the Mountain. But husband says also check your anti- freeze. Ours did the same thing climbing Jelico Mountain after crossing the Tennessee State Line. Also he wanted to know what the Service Engine Light was ever on for? He said that usually they don't just stay on. And when your towing anything it can also effect your fuel mileage. And Class A 's only get around 6-8 miles per gallon. It just looks like Laine and you just are miserable in a Class A. Lol. We usually get around 7 miles per gallon and we pull a 15ft trailer behind ours with our truck or car on it. And running the Generator also effects how often you have to refuel. From Pigeon Forge, Tennessee to Pekin, Indiana is approximately 350 miles. And we can do it on a full tank. And we have just about the same size fuel tank. Remember that you need to come to the Great Smoky Mountains. We would love to have your family over for a cookout or something. We want to come around the end of October and first of November. The trees are breathtaking in the Fall in the Smoky Mountains. We can show you some awesome places to see all the beauty that God has blessed the Great Smoky Mountains with. As always God bless you and your family and safe travels.
