Pro tools is just another DAW! Lots of DAW’s out there! Your choice! Works for me on EVERY level! EVERY studio has Pro tools or logic! Not one of my colleagues use any other DAW than logic or pro tools! My medium is in music composition and film editing! Bought into pro tools many years ago and it has NEVER let me down! But like I said at the top! CHOICES!
I'm gona say this again: It's all about less clicks and more features in a DAW based system, people seek and want these days - especially amongst these young kids. I was invited to a convention after NAMM last year. This guy was giving some mixing and mastering "tips" to a group of students both in Audio and Flim. One female student asked a very interesting question; and that was - why Pro tools feels so heavy. I'm not gona lie, I'm going on 20 years' experience working in PT . . . I feel that at times.
Bolo - I’m with you - another downside to Pro Tools is its screen resolution is 1920 x 1080. It looks terrible on 4K displays! When I got my first MBOX with Pro Tools 6 back in 2003, it was a major highlight but today it just doesn’t feel “pro”. I’ve been a Logic user since 2002 and it’s got (just about) everything you need to create and produce - I’ve been on Ableton since v1 and so has that - same with Cubase that I’ve been on since the Atari ST. I just can’t get my head around it. I agree with what you’re saying. For Pro Tools to be “pro” it has to be at the top of the tree - the best of the best - and I’d like to see Avid developing their own devices rather than bundling 3rd party software with it. It feels like Avid just bundle a plugin with PT just to fill a feature gap. I still like Pro Tools but it’s definitely lagging behind the competition, that’s for sure.
All these smaller YT channels making responses to you defending Avid when they know Pro Tools is lacking is crazy, you've been spot on in your analysis about the software from you're initial video. If people want to pay subscriptions for something that offers so much less then let them do as they please.
You started a great discussion that helps people see beyond the Slick marketing hype. Anyone who is against intelligent dialogue is probably a poser and a scrub. Keep speaking your mind and let the adults in the room talk it out. Peace !
I did an internship at a studio here in Chicago a few years back. The head engineer used Logic Pro. My mind was blown. Until the. I thought it was protools all day. It’s mostly the outboard gear and the skill of the engineer.
You can automatically assign busses to highlighted tracks via a menu inside the mix window or the edit window. Just gotta dig in a bit more. This is what you can do: 1. Highlight as many tracks you want to route together, say three kick tracks you want to be summed together. 2. Once highlighted, press: Shift + Command + Option + N, and a dialog will prompt you to where you want to send these tracks to. Either a Basic Folder or a Routing Folder. 3. When selecting Routing Folder, you can mark the checkbox that says Route all to new Folder Track. 4. Pro Tools will automatically create the Folder, the bus, which will be named as you name the folder and bring them inside the folder. Another way you can do it without folder tracks if you wish to is to: 1. Highlight the tracks you want routed together. 2. Right-click on either track and select New Track. 3. Pro Tools will automatically give you an Aux Track as the option for routing. 4. Once you've selected the width for that track to be (mono, stereo, LCR, etc) and given a name to it, Pro Tools will create the aux, give it the name you've written, and route the tracks together. These are little hidden things in Pro Tools that you can discover either by testing as I did or reading the manual which I also do from time to time. ------ You can drag and drop tracks from the Finder directly into the Track List and Pro Tools will automatically create it inside the session and will follow the width of that track. I do agree it would be cool to being able to do certain things that other DAWs can do such as undo deleted tracks, plug-ins, sends, etc. Dragging audio from tracks to empty spaces and a new track being automatically created, better sampling like Studio One is adding lately, mix recalls, plug-in manager, and many other things but hey, there are already multiple things that can be done in Pro Tools that could arguably be easier to achieve in other platforms, but Pro Tools is as capable of performing some of them as the aforementioned. Great vid in all! Pro Tools is GOAT as well as other platforms in my opinion. Whatever makes you stay creative, it's worth investing your time and energy into.
I like this format. Extending the conversation through the entire week allows you to fully flesh out your perspective and address some if the responses. Good convo
Pro Tools may have been the industry standard before do to the fact there were less competitive options available at the time. Because the commercial studio industry has changed and there are many home studios and small studios that have popped up they've looked to an affordable way to make and record their music the other DAW's like Studio One are dominating because of affordability and the many features included. In actuality industry standard is becoming a moot point because at the end of the day the consumer doesn't care how its made as long as they enjoy the music and it has good sound quality. But on the home studio and small studio front, the other DAW's rule.
Ngl I went back to FL after watch the series . Produced in FL my whole life only moved over to pro tools to beginner bc it was the “standard” . FL on fire rn with the updates 🔥
Bolo , I tried studio one again . I gotta say I really like how you can easily tune in deep bass lines without having to go crazy or purchase other plugins. My mistake in the past , when I tried studio one was I never clicked on the make a beat template. Because of that I didn't really see just how easy the workflow could be if you select make a beat, instead of the other template. Damn they now have a Linux ver to . 🔥
Not one lie Detected.. I stuck with Studio One for the exact reason I've been down from v3, and I have multiple daws in my studio as well, but.. it has always been my go-to
How you create buses in Pro Tools helps you learn. Logic Pro buses are more like a digital soundboard. Which I love. But I appreciate pro tools for challenging me.
So true my pt certification 101 and 110 courses kicked my tale with the course work…but at the end of the day why use a horse and carriage when you can get an Uber EV.
I use Pro Tools for recording and mixing only. Processing plugin support is great. The audio editing features that are already there are great. Of course, more would be welcome. As far as producing, sequencing, and arranging goes, I prefer using hardware. I sequence the hardware via midi then track it out into Pro Tools. Once it's in Pro Tools and I decide I want to add another instrument on a new track, I can always do that. Whenever I'm ready to track vocals, no problem. So yes, for me, Pro Tools serves as a tape machine, mixing console, and effects rack all in one. With that said, I can appreciate Ableton Live having a superb warping algorithm and Cubase/Nuendo having some excellent midi features regarding sequencing because I've used those DAWs in the past, too. So, I can definitely vouch for those as well. If I had to use a DAW to sequence my hardware instruments, it would most likely be Cubase/Nuendo or Ableton Live, or perhaps both! I don't have much experience with the latest versions of Studio One, but I've always heard good things about it. If Pro Tools had Ableton's warping algorithm and Cubase's comprehensive midi features, that would be SWEET and absolutely welcome! And yes, stability should be an absolute MUST for any DAW software application, especially Pro Tools! And I agree, the bus routing in Pro Tools could use some improvement.
I LOVE Pro-Tools, for recording, mixing, and mastering. It’s fast!! But I’m an Ableton God!!!! That’s where I create and perform. So basically, Pro-Tools are for the clients, and Ableton is for me 😂🤣
Dear Avid, we need a Steam separator in Protools. It’s 2025, the I thing they have to add in Pro Tools is the ability to use VST’s without a crazy workaround to do so. That’s the #1 thing at the top of my list.
The one thing protools do have that I noticed others don’t is tab to transients feature which is very helpful when time aligning. Logic does have it? But it’s easier in protools, but yeah protool’s lack when it comes to features and stick plugins
As I said before I own Cubase and Pro Tools and I'm a Cubase user mainly. I only got Pro Tools back before Cubase updated the audio engineering to where it is now. Cubase has tools for producing that is orders of magnitude ahead of where Pro Tools is and now that it is ever bit as good at audio engineering if not better, I only have Pro Tools for projects I don't feel like remixing. I've never used Studio One but that daw was written by former Cubase programmers so I know it is quite similar. I collaborated with another producer who uses Logic and it too is impressive.
The real problem here is that people expect and want every Daw out there to do exactly the same thing and have the same tools. I mean, when Pro Tools arrived it was a daw for recording, editing and mixing. The same as when FL Studio arrived it was a Daw to make beats only. Obviously with time and user input and demands these programs have changed towards the needs of the user. But, nike doesn't need to make shoes like adidas and adidas doesn't need to make shoes like reebok.
I started with pro-tools in 1992 but it was the only choice then. These super complex programs got designed a long time ago and have qa lot of legacy code that is extremely difficult to change. For live bands and rock studios its still a must have, and the fact that it doesn't change is one of the reasons its well loved by the rock community.
Hey Bolo, Protools user here and I totally agree with you, Most of the pro tools users don’t want to admit that digi designs was more about the users , since sold avid just about money grab , milking the users , I’ve tried studio one and I will admit it’s really great and I’ve gotten a lot of projects from studio one and logic . We the pro tools users accept bare minimum instead of demanding . Avid is nothing without the customers
This change was happening back in 2010. I saw the newbies coming in with their noses turned up to PT and their attention was on FL, Ableton, Logic and Cubase. Since then they’ve all improved to the point that I haven’t touched PT since 2021 but I’ve added Studio One. 🤷🏾♂️
Same here - talked about how things look like here in germany and they acted like they know the german market - how, if they live in the US, Canada, etc. It was just stupid
Yo! I agree 💯 % wit U bro. I think people that are just used to using only Pro tools for so long, they are stuck in their ways 😂😂. I’m speaking as an EX Pro Tools user by the way. I’m Cubase 14 Pro and Studio One 7 Pro now!
The reason you’re getting a lot of people coming in with FL studio and logic Pro is because they’re going to record in studios that really can’t afford good gear and quantity plug-ins and a quality daw but at the end of the day, people send me sessions also from other programs and I still bring all of them into production tools and I understand what you’re saying about full production I don’t do full production. I only do mix master and recording. And I’m a pro certified engineer I love all of your videos and your content and I think that people can use whatever they want as long as you’re good at it.
Hey Bolo, whats your thoughts on Gelo song "Tweaker?" Everything about that song is "dated" according to the experts yet its the most popular song out now. I think he pretty much ended the whole "dated" debate. Whats your thought?
I totally agree with you. I bought it perpetually and then annually I had to get the subscription I was so tired of all my money towards pro tools I'll probably spend thousands using pro tools. I like avid and pro tools, but it's always been lacking. I had to switch to logic and even when I use pro tools I always used to produce in logic or other software.
Working in the industry for so many years, I find a lot of pro tool guys have the least experience with all the other daws, typically out of habit, and they’re the most offended out of ignorance.
I am pretty sure you can move an audio track to another track while making a new track with that moved clip in PT. I feel that maybe Avid need to do a complete rebuild of PTs or many have a pro tool Plus version with all the production features added.
Aye Bolo is like the Malcom X of Production They call it Pro Tooools.......... Without the Pro! Tools Thats the trickery of the enemy By any means we gone get change
The factor that played a big role in establishing Protool as a standard is that every Engineers coming out of schools were Pro tool trained, Protool should not be in same category as Logic , Studio one and Cubase as it was never a sold as just a software but was a full Hardware + software solution and was built for commercial recording studio, its pricing was based on the Analog to Digital converters as they had been the best in the industry for a minute. industry standard does not mean "best", but means that it's the most suitable to use industry wide
Im just here because them protool head was coming for you big dawg arguments about ish you aint even said 😂😂 , like dj with serato vs vinyls 😂😂, keep em coming big dawg
14:25: you can absolutely do that! Hold Alt+Shift and choose the Aux output you want to send them to. You do make good points! But also I hate how Logic holds my hand for things it shouldn’t. I like how Pro Tools forces you to choose what your next move is gonna be.
@@BoloDaProducer hold alt+shift and choose “new track” as output Name it, choose the type… sure it’s not automatic: but you know what you’re getting! This video made me think about how I overspend on pro tools compared to logic 😳
Used protools in my earlier recordings, protocols need a newer sound engine, Takes too many sound plug-ins to beef up the track. 37 tracks (minimum)to make a great mix is insane 😅 without vocals. Your advice is needed and I hope they listen.
While times have changed, it was designed to be used as a tracking device in major studios. There are some who would argue, for audio work, it has one of the best sounds along with Magix Sequoia, but that costs 3,000 dollars and has features that no other daw has - such as compound ratio compressors, so as the curve of the knee changes, so does the ratio, and people wonder why they struggle with compression sometimes, not knowing this exists. Anyway, I digress, I know from working at the BBC in the uk and AIR Studios, various other studios that people simply gravitate to pro tools for audio stuff, the main difference being, when you buss out of logic vs routing out the main stereo channel, the sound is different. It is not different if you simply do a null test and flip the sound, internally, on in another daw to compare, however, if you do a mix, and bounce out the stereo in Logic, for example, the sound will and does change slightly, just as if mixing to Soundcloud or some platform, (because of the algorithm). A good mix is a good mix, but as far as I'm aware, and millions of others in the industry too, Pro tools has a consistent sound throughout the coding.
Bolo you’re getting better at triggering the algorithm. Channel is on fire for the 2025

Pro-Tools is more for Engineers than Producers.
But the landscape is transitioning into one where people are handling both aspects. Pro Tools is rapidly losing its footing when it comes to this.

Has everyone seen the recent Studio One 7 release promo? One of the biggest Pro Tools advocates is a part of the release on stage with Jazzy Jeff! Yes, no other than Mr. ProTools, Wavy Wayne himself! I think Bruh is starting to see the light as well 😂.
The bro triggered all the Pro-Tools angry bees 🐝 😂😂😂 I’m loving it! Great points.
Imma go check the comments on the other video 🤣
Pro tools is just another DAW!
Lots of DAW’s out there!
Your choice!
Works for me on EVERY level!
EVERY studio has Pro tools or logic!
Not one of my colleagues use any other DAW than logic or pro tools!
My medium is in music composition and film editing!
Bought into pro tools many years ago and it has NEVER let me down!
But like I said at the top! CHOICES!
I got almost every program including pro tools I really only use fl 11 when I’m mixing
That's why I love Cubase. It allows me to do everything. I need to do. And so much more.
All these smaller YT channels making responses to you defending Avid when they know Pro Tools is lacking is crazy, you've been spot on in your analysis about the software from you're initial video. If people want to pay subscriptions for something that offers so much less then let them do as they please.
Those others are probably working for Avid
This is what you can do:
Another way you can do it without folder tracks if you wish to is to:
------
You can drag and drop tracks from the Finder directly into the Track List and Pro Tools will automatically create it inside the session and will follow the width of that track.
Ableton is just command G and it’s done lol
I work at a studio and I use protools the studio but I prefer Ableton because of the faster workflow
@
You can always change the keyboard shortcut in Pro Tools.
It can be done natively now.
I like this format. Extending the conversation through the entire week allows you to fully flesh out your perspective and address some if the responses. Good convo
Glad you enjoy it!
Lol Bolo you killing me with this series
Pro Tools may have been the industry standard before do to the fact there were less competitive options available at the time. Because the commercial studio industry has changed and there are many home studios and small studios that have popped up they've looked to an affordable way to make and record their music the other DAW's like Studio One are dominating because of affordability and the many features included. In actuality industry standard is becoming a moot point because at the end of the day the consumer doesn't care how its made as long as they enjoy the music and it has good sound quality. But on the home studio and small studio front, the other DAW's rule.
FL GOING TO BE THE ONE
exactly FL gang here agrees
Ngl I went back to FL after watch the series . Produced in FL my whole life only moved over to pro tools to beginner bc it was the “standard” . FL on fire rn with the updates 🔥
Bolo , I tried studio one again . I gotta say I really like how you can easily tune in deep bass lines without having to go crazy or purchase other plugins.
My mistake in the past , when I tried studio one was I never clicked
on the make a beat template. Because of that I didn't really see just how
easy the workflow could be if you select make a beat, instead of the other
template. Damn they now have a Linux ver to . 🔥
Studio one is a game changer for sure!
I agreed with you in the last video, and still do 🙏🏾👍🏾
Big up Bolo. At the end of the day, Avid NEEDS TO STEP THEIR GAME UP SMDH,... ITS 2025.
😂 don’t worry Bolo, we got your back….we got beef with them.
Some people prefers PT... they are hitting on your channel ......... top !! BOLO !!!! Yeah !
I LOVE Pro-Tools, for recording, mixing, and mastering. It’s fast!! But I’m an Ableton God!!!! That’s where I create and perform. So basically, Pro-Tools are for the clients, and Ableton is for me 😂🤣
Ableton and Pro Tools compliment each other. Ableton is for creating.
ProTools Studio has 512 instrument tracks and 512 audio tracks, which is way more than I need and 1.025 midi tracks
(2:07) Bro, I can do everything in pro tools… Beats, mixing, mastering…
EVERYTHING!
Even drop a video in it!
I use pro tools back in 07 it was cool. It studio one is cheaper and better in my opinion
You right though. No need to apologize. It is what it is. They did it to themselves.
I can’t believe you gotta explain it big dawg. It’s your opinion and you’re not alone in that regard and I’m a Pro Tools user.
Dear Avid, we need a Steam separator in Protools. It’s 2025, the I thing they have to add in Pro Tools is the ability to use VST’s without a crazy workaround to do so. That’s the #1 thing at the top of my list.
128 Tracks is freak'n B.s...LOL!!!! Studio one is unlimited out of the box.
Cubase 14 is where its at 😊
Triggering the algorithm, The purple lights🤣😇
You solid Bolo, you know them avid boys be die hard bout they daw lmao!
Yeah people were getting a little too emotional about a Daw. Use what makes you happy we all have different perspectives
Your right Bolo other DAWS give so much more .
Tracking and recording Pro-Tools is King period and it's been that way for decades 🙏
We appreciate you!
The Pro Tools guys be bringing so much smoke for such a mid product. The comments under my comment on the last Pro Tools video is hilarious 😂
Some of them was in them comments BIG mad!
The “Experts” can never predict what the Masses want
What’s this “Global Tuner” you speak of in Studio One?
1️⃣Gang
I'm here for these hot takes.
Yep they act like we lesser
I am pretty sure you can move an audio track to another track while making a new track with that moved clip in PT. I feel that maybe Avid need to do a complete rebuild of PTs or many have a pro tool Plus version with all the production features added.
Bolo don’t be explaining yourself mane! Let em’ know you Bolo around here!!!😂😂😂
Aye Bolo is like the Malcom X of Production
They call it Pro Tooools.......... Without the Pro! Tools
Thats the trickery of the enemy
By any means we gone get change
The factor that played a big role in establishing Protool as a standard is that every Engineers coming out of schools were Pro tool trained, Protool should not be in same category as Logic , Studio one and Cubase as it was never a sold as just a software but was a full Hardware + software solution and was built for commercial recording studio, its pricing was based on the Analog to Digital converters as they had been the best in the industry for a minute. industry standard does not mean "best", but means that it's the most suitable to use industry wide
Pro Tools is just literally the Daw you'll be facing when walking into a commercial studio. that's about it.
Im just here because them protool head was coming for you big dawg arguments about ish you aint even said 😂😂 , like dj with serato vs vinyls 😂😂, keep em coming big dawg
Bolo starting off 2025 like Katt Williams brought in 2024 😂😂 At least in the music community 😂😂
Definitely 😂
14:25: you can absolutely do that! Hold Alt+Shift and choose the Aux output you want to send them to.
You do make good points! But also I hate how Logic holds my hand for things it shouldn’t. I like how Pro Tools forces you to choose what your next move is gonna be.
I will say: I don’t like beatmaking / synth writing in Pro Tools. Reason for me. But I love how Pro Tools handles audio.
You didn’t listen to what I said.. go back listen to what I said about it not being able to Create an aux when an aux channel is not present
@@BoloDaProducer hold alt+shift and choose “new track” as output
Name it, choose the type… sure it’s not automatic: but you know what you’re getting!
You possed to say ion want no smoke, Bolo.
Maybe the professionals are so skilled they don’t need the most user friendly software?
Learning different DAWS is almost like reading about different religions. You get a better overall understanding.
Bolo “wanna be starting something “😂😂
Thanks for the info. What in your mind is the best overall daw for vst's , etc. in the box plugins that will give you the industry standard sound?
(3:33) Was making beats in pro tools back in 2003… midi… sp1200 and Roland xp60… Reason… I was bussin…
Nowwwww I can do even more
It sounds like you do have beef, but I feel the same way you do! 🤣 Too much hype, not enough pro features. 👊🏿
They on ya heels Bolo😂😂😂😂😂😂pro tools working good for you this week😂😂😂😂😂
Putting your hands up? Please don't! 😂
When pro tools' feature set is on par or better than Logic and or Cubase, will be when I will refer to it as "THE" industry standard.
