Man this makes me miss my 69 Chevelle and Camaro SSs, neither COPO or Yenko but I loved them both. Built 350 I both, Muncie in the velle 350 Turbo in the maro both with 3:73 posi. I actually looked just like old Mickey when you said the Chevelle had a powerglide lol, I almost popped a gasket! Good one dude. This was a good clip too, I would love to see them race more, it could go either way, and I love both so much I won’t be upset about anyone losing.
I remember my dad and my uncle, who are both gone now, talking about cars like these as equipped in the early 70s. At US 30 drag strip, where 1 could run slicks, no one could touch them but a super rich dude that had a 69 L88 vette. The early Max Wedge cars could hang with um, but the win depended on the hole shot. These were consistent low 11 sec cars that could quickly out run their brakes on that short track. As a result of crashes, the track officials mandated rules for roll bars and in some cases parachutes! Many 'run what you brung' guys opted out and ran at other longer tracks.
The 425/450 hp debate started with the '66 Corvettes, the first to get the L72 427s. Early in the production year the engines were rated at 450hp (25hp more than the L78 396s they superseded), but after only a few months they changed it to 425, the exact same as the previous, smaller engines. Why? Nobody seems to know for sure, but I've always seen it as proof that GM was full of sh!t considering their advertised numbers. Yenko knew they were originally advertised at 450, so that's what he advertised them at. When you consider the hp ratings for the L78 396, which was 325hp in El Caminos, 375hp in Chevelles and 425hp in Corvettes, even though they were all built exactly the same, it becomes obvious that GM was just rating the engines at whatever they wanted rather than what the engines actually produced. There's also the case that ALL Chevelle/El Camino 327 and 396 engines were rated lower in the El Camino's for no apparent reason at all, even though they were the exact same engines.
FYI,gm never rated the L78 396/375hp motor at @ 325hp in an elky or anything else for that mater. But the 65 vette 396 motor with same setup/build from gm was rated at 425hp which is what it really put out when built & tuned properly talking gross & not net up on the dyno.
The L-78 396 was only rated at 425 in the Corvette in 1965, because it was shipped with an 850 cfm vacuum secondary carburetor. GM caught a ton of crap from the insurance companies. They issued a bulletin to remove the 850cfm carburetor and replace it with a 780 cfm carburetor, either when the Corvettes returned for service, or before they were sold if they were in inventory. Yes, the 70cfm bigger carburetor *is* worth 50 HP.

Man I wish Chevrolet wouldn’t have updated the taillights for the 69 Chevelle. They just look 🤮 the rest of the styling is A++.
71 had the best tail lights. They all should have had the round ones. They scream Chevrolet!
I'm going to guess the Camaro, so it'll probably be the Chevelle that wins! LOL
Very sound reasoning 👍
979👍's up thanks for sharing
These 2 would smoke any factory hemi car.
Lol
That's alright! At least I could get a hemi car straight from the factory, (you couldn't from Chevy at the time.) Chevys are alright, I just don't like the haters...
& A big heavy luxurious CTS-V rolling down the 1/4 mile with the A/C on would take them both down .
@@martinkobert4321 Back then the best a caddie could do was about 22 secs., for the quarter mile!
@@CudaRebelsAutoModeling426 If that hemi was so wonderful why did Chrysler only offer a 90 day warranty??

The commentary almost made this video unwatchable. I did it for the cars
Almost? So you’re still saying it’s watchable! What a dedicated fan! 👍
All the hype 12 second 1/4 slow for today
Stii can't trap 123 mph like the L88 Vette can .... sorry !
High fling bird
The Chevelle didn't heat up his tires, like the Camaro did. And could you possibly tone down the junior high school humor.! It's cute for 13 year olds. But not for adults. It's boring.
camaro had better start off the christ tree
more race, less bullshit
Limit the talking and show more racing!!!!

That Camaro hauls ass!
Very impressive car! 😎
