What do they usually go for? Is it by the pound or what? I have one on my property that's probably 1000lb and curious if it would be worth cutting and drying

thank you so much for this video. I've been a woodturner over twenty years, but I live in Hawaii, so i don't have much access to burls. i learned a lot.
ive been cutting trees for years and threw away burls often. i will be saving them from now on. in fact i have a mapel log with about 5 burls on it now. they will be saved
you prolly dont give a shit but if you guys are stoned like me during the covid times then you can watch all of the latest movies and series on InstaFlixxer. I've been binge watching with my brother these days xD
I appreciate that. I currently don’t have any pictures. We own 16 acres and I know there’s burls and was just wondering if it was worth ‘harvesting’ them. It’s in my bucket list to get a lathe and try bowl turning. I love your videos!!!
I have some hardwoods on my property in TN that have burls. Can I harvest without harming the tree? I have some really old oaks that I would rather them stay healthy then remove the burl if it harms the tree.
I would not recommend cutting the burls off. It is your choice but I try to only go for dead, dying or hazard trees or being cleared for construction. Cutting the burl off the tree can put it into shock and steal energy from growing.
I just saw a burl way beyond anything I ever saw It was in a sugar maple and about 25 feet up off the ground and it had to be 4.5 feet across maybe more. What would somthing like that be worth? Is it too big?
My question, is it considered a burl only if it's on the side of the tree above ground? I have a madrone with what I thought was a burl below ground, some is sticking out above ground, I think it is 6 feet in diameter!
in my experience, most burls grow above ground. If you have not dug it out yet to verify that it is a burl underground I would say what you see is what you get. Is the trunk big or small compared to the burl? That is another consideration. if it is a small truck that means that all the energy went into growing the burl.
OOH MY GOD. My dad and i has hectares of land with thousands of trees with Burls on them. But we normally cut it and use it for firewood. Ignorance is death. Wow.
These are really nice nurls and those big vases are crazy awesome...
