    Thank you thank you….I’ve got several burls ( cherry, maple, oak and red cedar) ready to go and I have been rolling them around to find the best blanks opportunities. Great info just at the right time. Certainly I have lost blanks by sawing all the way through. Never again.

      That is fantastic. Would love to have your problem. Burls are hard to come by.

    How long do you need to dry the burl before it’s ready to turn?

      Every burl i have turned I have turned as soon as I could. Because of the grain structure does not seem to warp as other wood pieces. Finished turned then let set for a couple of weeks then sanded. Have fun.

    Dude!!! Your my new favorite guy on TH-cam man! Lol! I cut a burl off a fell tree the other day, tiny one, bout 8-10" in diameter. Just cuz I'm a 20+year career carpenter! Love woodworking! Always have! Have a psyche masters degree and i never worked a day in the field tho, after my first day of using a chop saw and a nail gun! Lol. So i was just curious what the wood looked like inside, imagined it would be very grainy?? Maybe weak or feeble?? IDK but i certainly didn't expect much.. so very happy to see there's a whole community of burl lovers out there and I'm looking forward to you showing me sum cool stuff man so! Liked and subscribed bud! Your one of the very few I'm subbed to! I'm on TH-cam constantly, just never sub for some reason! Cool man! Maybe I'll keep you posted and I'm always welcome to New ideas! My man!!! Take care! 👍

      Robert thanks for the comment, have been involved with wood for over 50 years. From building, to cabinetry, from sawmills to lathe work. My wife and I have built 2 homes from the ground up. Just love what can be done with wood. In the past 4 years have turned 27 different species of wood. Each one teaches you something new. God’s hand is in every one, we try to reveal it in every bowl. Hence, Bowl Reveal, is our channel.

      @bowlreveal Amen, brother! I'm very happy to see I'm most likely talking to a Christian brother! Or at least a man of faith! and that automatically boosts my morale for the situation! Always does! But hey, man, Congrats on the homes! Every carpenters dream. To build himself a home with his own bare hands! There's nothing like it, so congrats! And congrats on the lovely marriage! I'm gonna go out on a limb and say your wife has been with you for most of or more than those 50 years? Lol. Love the channel! I can be a chatty Kathy from time to time.. so you'll see me commenting again I'm sure! Lol! 🙏

    I've got a few or a lot of Oak burls down here in SE Texas on the property. Curious how much these sell for? Especially off the 100yr old Oak trees

      Second person in less than 2 weeks to ask the same question. I have seen them on Market Place and Craigslist for sale $25 to $250 but I have yet to find one that was sold. I personally find my wood on the side of the road, friends, people who know I do bowls. I always give a bowl when I pick up the wood and when it’s completed I give one of them also. May take a year before they’re finished, but they get at least one. I first turn then finish turn 6-7 months later so takes awhile. Didn’t answer your question couldn’t answer the other guys either. What ever someone is willing to pay.

    I've got a 4 foot wide and completely round white oak burl. Any suggestions how I should cut it? Slabs? Should they be cut up and down or cross? Thank you

    • @bowlreveal
      @bowlreveal  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      What a wonderful problem to have. Without seeing it, as large as it is. Maybe you should take 4 bowl slabs can be live edge and square up the burl. Then cut into slabs, remember take the bowls from the center rings and use the rest for goblets and lidded boxes. Take out the center but don’t throw away it makes great small items if not too punky. Oak is normally a coarser grain. But burls throw out the rules. Too cool!

      Do you have access to a bowl coring tool, those 4 can turn into 12 quickly. Most turners are pretty cool about loaning those types of tools.

    Great video, do you have one on how to take a log into a bowl blank? And if you don’t have time to turn green do you end seal etc?

    • @bowlreveal
      @bowlreveal  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Will have one soon and yes In use anchor seal. And in a pinch cellophane which is cheap and quick, need a heat gun too. Cellophane doesn’t breath so can’t use it for long periods bills up too much mold. Just enjoy turning, it’s a sickness.
