    One does not often see something new or different in bushcraft videos but your holding the log to be split with another log was a new one on me! You just made my day!

    I love these Council 14" hatchets. I bought a bunch of them for gifts (Christmas and birthdays) this winter. I'm finishing them similar to yours and making leather furnishings for them. Lots of fun. Very high quality tool for little $.

      Agreed, these make great gifts, and are fun projects! I have the 18" 2lb as well and am hoping to take it on a camp out real soon!

    Got the 24 inch handle model. I was looking at the flying fox model or a prandi one but I'll pick this one up. Thanks your video was entertaining and informative. Looking forward to browsing your channel.

    I need to get to collecting some more fatwood to keep in my trucks. About froze my butt off fishing a few weeks ago when everything was soggy wet and I had taken the fire kit out of that vehicle for the summer.

    • @Scablands_Scavenger
      @Scablands_Scavenger  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ha ha, I hear that! I had to wade out into a creek after some ducks last week. I was wishing I had a pile of dry wood for a quick fire in the cab with my change of clothes. I think I might make a small fire kit with wood to the truck box!

      @@Scablands_Scavenger That time of year; fire kit, dry clothes, tire chains, blanket, pot for melting snow, tow strap/chain and a shovel in both trucks. Better to have and not need than need and not have.

    Great video, I have a question. Did you notice a gouge on the side of your edge about a 1/8"-1/4" long? Just curious because mine did and just wondering if yours did too. Thanks, love your vids.

    • @Scablands_Scavenger
      @Scablands_Scavenger  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Not really a gouge but it was a bit rough. I ended up sanding and smoothing the blade out on mine out so it would work with kydex.

    Finding fat wood or resins when you’re out in the field is always a plus. I forgot to ask, do you have any sheaths for the cold steel frontier hawk?

    • @Scablands_Scavenger

      Oh yeah, free fire starter is as fun to find as it is to use! I do not have any CS frontier sheaths made but I can always add one to the list.

    Do you do custom orders on kydex

    • @Scablands_Scavenger
      @Scablands_Scavenger  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Right now I only do requests for the axes/tomahawk sheaths that I have on hand that do not require mailing in. Mainly the Cold Steel hawks and the Fiskars X series axes, a few others. I am just now starting to work into knives but it will be quite a while before I get my skillset up to where I want to start taking orders.

    A hatchet vs a tomahawk video would be nice.

    • @Scablands_Scavenger
      @Scablands_Scavenger  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      What would you want to see? I have thought of this, but always talk myself out of it because there are so many different ways to approach the topic; light hawk vs heavier hatchet, equal weight hawk vs hatchet, handle length differences on and on. I have seen quite a few videos on this topic, some better than others. I see people compare the trail hawk to say a small axe weighing twice the weight and not expand on the benefits of the hawk at all, only chopping.

    • @johnsun3854
      @johnsun3854 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Scablands_Scavenger I think similar weight (including the handle) would be fair. Maybe even couple different weight classes for different videos .
      And as many different tasks as possible. For example I have noticed you split only sawed off peaces of wood , but what if you needed to build a shelter and chop/split wood for fire with only having one tool.

    • @Scablands_Scavenger
      @Scablands_Scavenger  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Otis010707 Unfortunately not something I would be able to do. I purchased 2 of the "new" 2lb hudsons to test when I bought this one. What I found is a big size difference between each one, forming one on mine will probably not fit on yours. Worse though is the finish on these, it is too rough for kydex, it grinds away at it like a file. I had to round over the edges and sand the cheeks down where the deep finish sanding marks are so it will not eat away at the sheath. Basically have to modify and form on each axe.
