Great reminder - it's time to get my 72 hr bag in my car updated for cold weather... and to check on the flashlight batteries and replace the old granola bars.
Straight up and straight forward. I keep a paint can pop opener on my line gear for pulling rounds stuck in chamber of ar. Tie it to a three foot lace so you can clear your jam and drop it to hang, this gets you back in the fight fast. No more digging the jammed round with a pocket knife. Shalom brother bear. I’ve been trying to reduce my number of “bags.” I keep my 72 hour/get home bag in the vehicle with me at all times. Currently working on my 5 day, 45 poundish ruck/bugout bag.
Backpacker wise, try to get it down to less than 20% of your weight because isn't water 8lbs a gallon? Got a straw? Lol I cant remember, but I think mine is 3 days with tent at 17 lbs. I got a bit crazy about it about 5 years ago. When I check it I get pissed off about my cabinet being used for everyday life🤣. Check it often.
I'm glad to see he's using the 'ol tactical mud dauber nest. Some say it's primitive, but if you hit the enemy just right with it, you can cause some real damage...

My 2 cents? Throw a lightweight rain jacket and some rain pants in it, because hey, you never know when it’s gonna be pouring when you’re outside. It helps when you can keep moving in inclement weather if you need to find shelter, and you really don’t want to die from hypothermia/exposure because you got cold and wet from being caught lacking in the rain when it was even relatively cold/cool outside. Overall, nice loadout. Looks a lot like mine.
Only thing I would add for those who live in the south is bug repellent that also keeps ticks off of you…ticks can really fuck up your day, especially the lone star tick.
What can I say I'm either a cheap scape or old school but I used an old alice pack for years and then moved to the acu rucksack, I love my alice pack but having the extra room and mollie webbing is a plus for me lol, no matter what each of us have it's useless unless you use it and keep it rotated with the season. I have the same msr water filter and love it along with my sayer.
I went to dollar tree and bought energy nut packs. Bought small slim Jim’s for my bug out bag. Still have a few other things I need to get though. Can only do so much at a time with what little income I have to do with.

Rush was instrumental in my teenage years I accidentally watched the second video first it was awesome it gives me so many ideas because I've got to rush 55 and I overstuffed that thing including the kitchen sink I can barely lift it but it is a really comfortable backpack I must say so now I'm going to go back and redo it thank you bear you rock as always shalom

Looking forward to the updated video Bear. I've had a 8inch by 4 inch chunk of paper birch bark in my kit for over 25 years .always use some to start fire if I'm in the bush. Light great addition to a Bic lighter . Great video 🙏
One thing i found after only my first few hikes with my gear is the need for an internal frame pack. Nothing huge but the added strength and rigidness allowed for a much more comfortable break. I can lean on or sit on it which made life much better. I also found shoe glue is a must have for even the best boots. I know several people that have a pair of old or even brand new hiking boots set aside for their BOB but soon they will find a problem on their hike.. and if you need a fire on wet wood.. it burns much better then p.jelly and cotton balls..
I've been putting the emergency water packets for survival boats inside my Nalgene bottle so that way I have water in there and can use it collect with filters. Being self contained if I find water I can transfer the packets and fill the bottle and have that much more water. Has worked well for me so far.
Socks YES! My only seasonal change is my clothing, and adding extra warmth for my sleeping set up. Coffee is a must have, ( I also carry Liquid IV for one of my drinking bottles), and the filter system needs to be compatable with your water bottles. Looking foward to your part 2 , and even if you add to what you already have. DON'T FORGET THAT EXTRA PIECE OF CLEANING ROD YOU DROPPED UNDER THE TABLE!
Idk what it is why is men, and our desire to collect bags, but I have dozens as well, lol. I run a SERE school, and could objectively survive for months with nothing more than a haversack. I could literally knapp stone tools, create friction fires, etc. The only purpose for my packs now a day is solely for comfort out in the field now. I've reached in a point in which my skill set is beyond a requirement for anything really, but obviously I have no desire to knapp cutting tools, and create cordage, and containers, etc. It is nice in the context that I could be completely comfortable with a 10 lb pack, and why I don't even have INCH/SHTF bags anymore. I have packs with basic sustain equipment for different seasons, none being overly heavy. I also I different packs configured for different weapon systems. If I'm going out with the EBR, I obviously will need my chest rig configured with 308, etc. Don't believe the myth in redundance, and the dumb Prepper slogan "two is one and one is none." Obviously it's nice having multiples and items that serve dual purpose, but you don't need multiple ponchos, tarps, ways to create fire, etc. Im commenting before viewing much of the video yet so idk where he is, but guys you don't need a 50lb ruck with 10 different ways to start a fire. If you must, grab a few lighters and a fero rod, that's all you need. You need nothing if you hwve the skills to create w friction fire. Lighters or a fero should suffice though, and I hate how our community has created packrats, with guys carrying 50+ lbs of unnecessary kit. You should get some shoe gew. Trust me when I tell you it has a million uses. I've repaired tarps, you name it. It's amazing and it's a temple piece of kit for guys in my circles.

Aww hell, I'm always messin with bags. I definitely don't get ass hurt over which is gooder. I'm 6 decades into life and been out of the Army longer than most of your subs have been alive {probably} so, I'm not up on what's the latest greatest but I know what works. Turns out, damn near any quality bag will do but I do find myself returning to my old LC Medium....It's old and it works...Like me. Our set up is similar, I do like your sock bag/pillow idea. Tactical Rifleman has good stuff on this subject too. Bueno caca amigo, thanks.
I use MRE rappers and cut little circles and put between the battery and the connector so it doesn't kill the battery. Takes more time when you need it but if you have a EDC then it wouldn't matter as much on the time. Just a good way to store batteries in lights.. in my opinion. Good video
I love seeing that much water in the bag. It’s very important and trying to find and purify water in a hurry not only slows your progress down when your goal should be to get out of dodge, but it could put you in harm’s way. I see everyone stuffing crap in their water bottles to take up “less space” and I’m like “put that sh!t in a baggie and put water in your darn bottle”. If there is so much stuff in your water bottle you can’t find a place for it in your bag, you may be carrying a lot of senseless stuff in your bag. These bags are to be functional and are not intended to be all about the “cool factor”. 🤦🏼♀️ Don’t get me wrong, as a grandmother that has her 4yr old granddaughter a lot, I have one of those bags with everything I could possibly need while I’m out, but it stays in the car. I have a get home bag with minimal stuff because I’m generally never more than 2hrs away from home. When we were in Louisiana, I didn’t even have a bag, I had a vest because I would’ve had to walk, what took an hour to drive, through a gator infested area at night with the grand baby and she would’ve been on my back. My gear to get where I need to go always changes depending on my needs, and I need it to get us to safety. I’m not trying to bushcraft my way home or to my next location, I’m trying to get there.
In just a couple of paragraphs you demonstrated that you have far more tactical sense and good old plain common sense then 90% of the men who run channels like this. You're a hell of a woman, Tammy.
Re those bottles or tins or whatever, they take space. Using them for a number of items is counterproductive. The baggies if loosely filled will fit into odd spaces and corners far better.
I keep a Smart Water drinking nozzle with my Sawyer Mini to backfill with. Less bulk than that huge hypodermic that comes with the filter. It’s a perfect fit.
Speaking of Rush… I know what you mean. When I was in the Corps (‘77 to ‘83), it was that way with Zeppelin. When the Levee Breaks or Black Dog would come on, and that was the only sound you’d hear.

I should buy two of everything because my bug out stuff is kinda basically my nice camping gear I’ve acquired and put together. I’d keep it all together in one Tactical Tailor backpack. But recently went on a canoe trip and put all that gear and bought a waterproof SeaLine 70 liter backpack. Just need to simplify some things. Thanks lol.
You can stack 2 CR 123 batteries in flashlights that take 18650 batteries. Shelflife for CR 123 batteries is around 10 years and will hold its charge. 18650 batteries are recommend to be charged at least every six months they can deplete up to 30% of their power a year being in storage. 18650 batteries can be found at Walmart look near the outdoor yard ground step in walkway lights.

Most people don't account for the space and weight of food and water. Good stuff Bear. I do a monthly check on the family bags. 3 bags it takes me about 3 hours. Charge batteries, rotate food, refresh water, etc.

With the lithium batteries it’s better to leave them in place and screw the cap on good. They should hold their charge for a very long time. With the cap loose it was probably bouncing and setting of small charges. 👍Never store lithium batteries on their terminal ends on a metal surface. It drains them.
This video does a great job breaking down the contents of a solid 72-hour bag. It also highlights the primary downside of using your actual bugout gear on a daily basis. If you’re going to use your gear on a regular basis (you should, BTW), then you have to exercise the discipline to IMMEDIATELY replace anything you use. PS: I use the app called Todoist to keep track of my battery recharge/replacement schedule.
I used to have the LAPG version of that bag but sent it to my cousin in the Philippines. I have yet to buy that Condor bag to try it out myself I got a Mountain Hardwear ruck for my own BOB. Idk the exact model and capacity tho. Got it free at work I also have a Granite Gear Crown - a small one, an Osprey luggage backpack, multiple other luggage backpacks, a surplus German flecktarn ruck, and the best ruck out of all the bags i have the rare Marpat Recon Ruck that I got for free at work. I'm sending the recon ruck to my cousin in the Philippines once I get it loaded with a basic BOB load out 👍 I finally got the LAPG 72 hr ruck on closeout recently. My North Face pack I use for work fit inside without unloading it. The shade of brown is kinda ugly in person, it's like a grayish brown..yuck..but I'll keep it 😂
I keep a bug out bag.. 1 I keep it ready. First aid, the “things” I then have my weapon/weapons and ammo.. holsters… steel ammo box x a few. I’m get and be ready if needed. My skills change as time goes by. Nice video…Thanks Bear
Scary how much your bag contents look the same as ours. Yes, too many people pack waaaaay to much in their bags...never going to get very far with an overly heavy bag
Maybe acquire a spare 18650 or two, or maybe a means to charge the battery like a solar panel or battery bank. I'm currently revamping my headlamp setup and having to put together another Fire Kit since mine is missing where we had to move so easier to make another, versus digging around searching everywhere for the one I had. I can still air drum Tom Sawyer perfectly to this day...Rest in Peace Neil Peart. One of the best drummers of all time.
Good points- you are 110% correct that alot of people "over think" this stuff and buy so much crap, they cant find enough room for it. I think that packing for your environment (location, terrain, weather, ect..) is the best option, in my opinion. People really need to re-assess the KISS philosophy into their plan and quit over thinking stuff. BTW- what is a minute man bag? I must be getting old or something- Be safe out there-
I try to just have 2 bags. My edc which is 21 liter and should get me home. It goes everywhere with me. Gun, ammo, first aid, water, light, fire. Etc... The "bug out bag" stays at home and is 34 liter. Has a lot of the same stuff but also has food and sleep kit, extra clothes etc...

You can stack 2 CR 123 batteries in flashlights that take 18650 batteries. Shelflife for CR 123 batteries is around 10 years and will hold its charge. 18650 batteries are recommend to be charged at least every six months they can deplete up to 30% of their power a year being in storage. 18650 batteries can be found at Walmart look near the outdoor yard ground step in walkway lights.

Most people don't account for the space and weight of food and water. Good stuff Bear. I do a monthly check on the family bags. 3 bags it takes me about 3 hours. Charge batteries, rotate food, refresh water, etc.

Think about switching from the Sawyer Mini to the Sawyer Squeeze.
I've had two Mini's fail because the housing cracked. The Squeeze is more durable.

I have a 7 day bag and then I choose 2 routs to get to my destination and planted A few more bags hidden along the routes.

With the lithium batteries it’s better to leave them in place and screw the cap on good. They should hold their charge for a very long time. With the cap loose it was probably bouncing and setting of small charges. 👍Never store lithium batteries on their terminal ends on a metal surface. It drains them.
I just call mine my “activity bag”. I would add small binos for observation.
This video does a great job breaking down the contents of a solid 72-hour bag. It also highlights the primary downside of using your actual bugout gear on a daily basis.
If you’re going to use your gear on a regular basis (you should, BTW), then you have to exercise the discipline to IMMEDIATELY replace anything you use.
PS: I use the app called Todoist to keep track of my battery recharge/replacement schedule.
Your layout looks very similar to mine. I like to keep a large battery bank in mine with all the cords.

I got a Mountain Hardwear ruck for my own BOB. Idk the exact model and capacity tho. Got it free at work
I also have a Granite Gear Crown - a small one, an Osprey luggage backpack, multiple other luggage backpacks, a surplus German flecktarn ruck, and the best ruck out of all the bags i have the rare Marpat Recon Ruck that I got for free at work. I'm sending the recon ruck to my cousin in the Philippines once I get it loaded with a basic BOB load out 👍
I finally got the LAPG 72 hr ruck on closeout recently. My North Face pack I use for work fit inside without unloading it. The shade of brown is kinda ugly in person, it's like a grayish brown..yuck..but I'll keep it 😂

Maybe acquire a spare 18650 or two, or maybe a means to charge the battery like a solar panel or battery bank. I'm currently revamping my headlamp setup and having to put together another Fire Kit since mine is missing where we had to move so easier to make another, versus digging around searching everywhere for the one I had. I can still air drum Tom Sawyer perfectly to this day...Rest in Peace Neil Peart. One of the best drummers of all time.

Good points- you are 110% correct that alot of people "over think" this stuff and buy so much crap, they cant find enough room for it. I think that packing for your environment (location, terrain, weather, ect..) is the best option, in my opinion. People really need to re-assess the KISS philosophy into their plan and quit over thinking stuff. BTW- what is a minute man bag? I must be getting old or something- Be safe out there-

I try to just have 2 bags. My edc which is 21 liter and should get me home. It goes everywhere with me. Gun, ammo, first aid, water, light, fire. Etc...
The "bug out bag" stays at home and is 34 liter. Has a lot of the same stuff but also has food and sleep kit, extra clothes etc...
