@@bboy32167 The ivory king himself might not be that special combat wise but the fight progression from the from entering the fog wall and dropping down with my bros to the finish is just perfection in presentation.
Malenia was so close to being amazing. A couple minor tweaks would make her pretty much a perfect apex challenge. As a sword-and-shield user, the fact that she can heal off blocked attacks literally forces a build change for that one fight.
@@JKLeeds I didn't end up disliking Waterfowl all that much honestly. It's a devastating move that's tough to dodge but didn't make me nearly as salty as losing all of my progress to her healing lol
people may hate me for saying this but I think an open world makes a good boss fight hard to acheive based on the balancing to not be as fine tuned as it was in their more linear experiences
Some people like to sword and board whether to feeling more like a tanky powerful knight or just having the option to not only roll. I’ve seen a bunch of people do a shield block run due to not trying it before after coming from Selkirk or Bloodborne. Nothing wrong with anyone playing however they enjoy. Especially considering shields in Elden Ring have so many more abilities and utility that can change a play style.
i wouldn’t say it’s my favourite but the godfrey fight is just so good, all his attacks have great tells (for the first phase atleast) so it genuinely feels like a proper fight. and the second phase is so full of energy it’s so fun, also the music transition to the second phase is so cool.
Yeah I do like this one actually. I like that it subverts your expectations, you think the lion is going to join the fight for phase 2 but actually Godfrey turns into a pro wrestler!
@@JKLeeds Ive always hated godfreys second phase. Granted ive only played pure melee no summons, so thats handicapping myself a bit. But I feel like theres too much running away in the second phase, too many AoE's, and his damage is overtuned.
I know Ornstein and Smough are classics and I love that fight, but for me there are two better duo fights from combat perspective. Demon's in Ringed City and Darklurker. What I love about Demons is that they don't come at you at the same time, but one will be passive with ranged attacks while other will be agressive and come towards you. And Darklurker is my favorite fight in DS2 combat wise since figtht feels so chaotic in the second phase and yet it does not feel overwhelming to deal with them. Their spells are not too troublesome to avoid either. It feels so badass when you manage dance around their attacks. It's a shame such a great boss has such a bullshit runback.
I do like the Demon's but it's not as memorable for me as Smough and Ornstein in terms of placement in the game. I do agree Darklurker is a good boss but I just rarely ever end up doing it because of the bullshit requirements
Demons were probably my favorite surprise for playing the dlc, I knew about the dragon due to a friend having spoiled and Gail but the demons were unknown to me. And boy the dk3 demon fights are some of my favorite of the series the fact you can like orstein and smough have a totally different second phase is just cool and makes different attempts interesting in a very cool way.
personally I thought ornstein and smough was pretty underwhelming even when I first fought them. demon's and darklurker both blow o and s out of the park and it's not even close
@@Ohmagawdjr Midir forces you to actually interact with all of his mechanics, placidusax is awesome looking but you only really have to worry about dodging his attacks in the second phase, the first is always boring, just slashing at his tail or side until he starts flying. Which gives Midir the edge for me. More mechanically interesting which is the most important part of a boss imo.
@@Ohmagawdjr midir has some things going on that plaxidusax doesn't have. For one you really can't cheese midir, there are better ways to fight him but none that makes the fight a joke. Plaxi suffers hard in that front the ancient dragon lightning spell which doesnt have high reqs can make his fight skip his whole second phase with how much damage it does even with his resistance. And that really isn't the only one way to cheese plaxi. Both have an epic scale that makes fighting them enjoyable. Midir I feel narratively is a bit better since he actually has presence vs feeling like a hidden boss with no connection to the game. Midir is all about spacing knowing where to be is the greatest struggle and learning curb for his fight. While yes all souls bosses have this I feel midir is unique in that it works both offense and defensively here since of how much he moves away from you during his attack chains. Plaxi had an more graphical impressive fight and more effects going on. Unlike midir plaxi really gives you advantage for preparation. Except to some degree that prep can actually remove the fight entirely. He has attacks to keep a foe honest for the most part and has a great and more interesting moveset overall vs other elden Ring bosses. Plaxi stands heads taller than most elden Ring bosses but his main asset the fact that prepping can heavily influence the battle to Total removing the fight makes me feel he is less solid as a boss vs midir though. As midir you have to learn and plaxi you can smash the noob button and after two spell cast he is almost dead.
Honestly Mohg has to be one of my favorites purely because of the aesthetic. Although his Nihl move can be a bit unfair forcing you to drain flasks, I found myself not really caring that much because of how cool his moves and the arena looked.
What really helps nihil is the physic that nearly negates all of the damage. Of course it's gonna take a bit of your health, but it isn't a direct attack nor it takes too much of your health.
My top spot is a toss up between Artorias and Radahn. Artorias is a final fight against maybe the truest hero in Dark Souls, but Radahn's fight just feels so awesome, uniting a group of great warriors to put a once beloved legend to rest. Nameless King deserves a mention too. The satisfaction when I finally killed him was crazy.
Artorias storyline is so good. Cus really he didn’t do anything. He loses on his first outing against the abyss, sacrificing himself to protect Sif. You on the other hand come in, defeat him and create the legend of ‘Artorias the Abysswalker’ who stopped the spread of the abyss. YOU are Artorias the Abysswalker from the legends. The actual Artorias is just a footnote, and you come in and essentially redeem him. I love that. To be fair I’m sure he was a badass if he was one of the Four Knights, but Gwyn unknowingly sent him up against someone with a portion of a Lord Soul. This was probably the most ‘Dark’ the people of Anor Londo ever experienced and they sent their most experienced warrior to fight it… not realizing exactly what they were up against.
That was a really great list! I think there are so many things you mentioned that I basically agree with, and your ranking makes a lot of sense. My only gripe would be that Orphan is another absolutely exceptional boss fight mechanically and aesthetically, and actually even edges Ludwig for me overall because I love the challenge and especially the arena so much (though I do agree Placidusax is my favorite arena across these games at this point, period). Shout out to Owl (Father) as well for being my favorite Sekiro boss just above Isshin, I love how he is the ultimate shinobi and uses all the moves you know against you, and his theme is also among my favorite in Sekiro. Gehrman is also my favorite proper "final boss" because of how pognant and tragic everything about his fight is, while also being a great challenge. I feel like I undervalue Gael for some reason compared to everyone else, but he doesn't stand out to me as much as many other fights, I don't know why (I think Friede is more innovative and by far my favorite fight from Dark Souls 3). You know what, I might as well throw out my own top 12 at this point, just for the sake of comparison: 1. Ornstein and Smough 2. Orphan of Kos 3. Ludwig the Accursed/Holy Blade 4. Friede and Ariandel 5. Owl (Father) 6. Gehrman 7. Sword Saint Isshin 8. Sulyvahn 9. Lady Maria 10. Godfrey 11. Soul of Cinder 12. Slave Knight Gael 13. Fume Knight 14. Maliketh 15. Knight Artorias Okay I extended it to top 15, I couldn't resist! I know mechanically Ornstein and Smough have shown their age, but they are just so amazing at what they do, being the best gank From have ever managed and allowing for so many permutations in how you experience them, that they still stand out as THE iconic boss fight of Soulsborne as a genre I feel.
This is a great list! I would’ve crammed Gherman in there simply for the music and the sad lore behind why you’re fighting him. Always hits very hard for me. For Ludwig, I can’t agree more. He’s my favorite, his cut scene of him regaining his humanity is the best and I’ve never skipped it before. And the music and lore behind him is an easy 100/100. Love fighting Ludwig every time I play BB. Owl (Father) is definitely a huge highlight for me, too. I remember being so shocked that everything I could do he could do better, especially the mikiri counter 🤣 Anyway, great list! You should make a worst bosses list if you haven’t already.
Thanks my dude! I will definitely consider a worse boss list. Just working on a DS2 no levelling run video at the moment so have some good material for worst bosses 😂
I really love Quellagg. I’m a man of culture. For real though, Dragonlord Placidusax(spelling?) really does it for me. He’s like king Ghidora. Love the spectacle.
Morgott is my favourite boss in the souls series, closely followed by Orphan or Kos, Gerhman, Rennala, Radagon, father Gascoin, Rykard and then Godskin Apostle. Honestly a lot more Elden ring bosses are my favourites
I think it's cool how Isshin Sword Saint fight took place in the first place you encounter "main" boss which is Genichiro. Ending the journey at the same place is really cool. Something that worth mentioning as well is that Isshin combined a lot of enemies mechanic such as Monk retreat jump slash, Gun, Ashina sword style, the spear, lightning, and probably some few I don't remember. He is the final test. If you managed to beat him first try, that means you mastered the game's mechanic. "Hesitation is defeat" describes the fight very well. I also love how in phase 2 he became super aggressive while in phase 3, he relies more on long range attack such as the wind slash and lightning, it feels like he became less agressive and more hesitation which led to his defeat. The white grass field arena also looks beautiful with lighting in the background, so epic. Easily my favorite Fromsoftware boss followed by Gael.
DS2 Scholar of the First Sin is my favorite in the series. Just the DLC along gives you 4 great bosses - Sir Alonne, Sinh, Fume Knight and Burnt Iron King. The base game also has some really cool bosses.
Yeah cool bosses like Congregation, Covetous Demon, Ancient Dragon, Old Dragonslayer, Royal Rat Vanguard, Royal Rat Authority, Old Iron King and Skeleton Lords, right?
Great list! Couple of my favs from each game not mentioned in the video: - Demon's Souls: Penetrator (a progenitor of the duel-type boss for the series, a bit simple but enjoyable nevertheless) - Dark Souls: Manus (great half-human half-beast enemy with complex and fair moveset) - Dark Souls 2: Fume Knight (perfectly balanced for the speed of the game; another epic duel boss) - Dark Souls 3: Champion Gundyr (super aggressive in the 2nd phase but still fair due to how much i-frames your roll has in this game) - Bloodborne: Father Gascoine (super tough for an early boss but great learning experience and still enjoyable on repeat runs) - Sekiro: Father Owl (yet another awesome duel; no bullshit gimmicks, just swords clashing with blistering speed) - Elden Ring: Godskin Noble (this fatty actually feels like a classic souls boss with not too spammy moveset; the only bad attack is the unreactable belly flop. Also his skinny partner is a fun fight too. Shame their attack patterns don't mesh well together otherwise we'd have a good gank boss like Ornstein and Smough. Thankfully Fromsoft has high standarts for boss design, they wouldn't just slap 2 random bosses in a room together and call it a day. Wait, oh SHI-
Wow firstly thank you for taking the time to write such a long detailed comment! I do enjoy all the bosses you mentioned there to some degree, although Penetrator less so because I'm not a fan of how slow and clunky Demons Souls feels. Also Fume Knight is cool but again it would be such a better fight if it wasn't using Dark Souls 2 combat and hitboxes imo
@@JKLeeds Agree about Penetrator and Fume knight. The lack of omnidirectional rolling hurts both Des and original DS; in DS2 the character's movement is awkward and less precise than in other games, kinda feels like your character is on rails and has a trouble turning. Almost feels like a tank controls sometimes, probably something to do with the game's engine. And the lock on reduces your movement speed even further. Attack animations also feel kinda floaty, with less impact. These things alone make DS2 my personal least favorite game in the series, and that's not even taking level design, boss design, lore and overall art direction into account. Speaking about the video, I personally would love to see a list of areas or levels; which ones your favorite to play or which ones are the most beautiful, or most enteresting to explore, or the most atmospheric, etc. I for example had an idea of listing 10 most scenic sites of graces in Elden Ring. The one right after Stormveil castle, overlooking all of Liurnia would be top 3 easily, that view is basically a painting already.
I like your picks! Been watching some of your videos and I had to sub for more content. Personally I would include the Abyss Watchers. The music.. the atmosphere and my first real challenge in DS3. They arent really that hard after some runs and the enitre fight can be pretty short, but I still get chills when the bell sounds as you prepare to fight.
I was so traumatized with Ornstein and Smough, that when I had to face the 4 Kings I thought I would never finish the game, luckly, the 4 Kings were way more forgiving, I thought Nito would be hard too with his minions, but Nito would be TK'ing them anyway, so it was more of a 1v1 with extra spacial awareness
Great video, loved the list and patented metrics. 2 bosses I would have added: The unnamed king. The lore build up to that is great, the arena and aesthetics and music are all top scorers. Combat is maybe a bit needing something more, as he is quite easy in the 2nd phase but overall a banger. I also agree with Orphan of Kos, very stressful but aesthetics, arena and combat are top. And it's extremely rewarding when you do triumph.
Interesting on the Nameless King, my experience was that first phase is super easy and basically a waste of time while the second phase was tough. I do agree the arena is pretty awesome, aesthetics and music are good but not my fave. For Orphan, it's definitely tough but you can trivialise him a bit with parrying. Also I found the music pretty underwhelming compared to all the other music from the Bloodborne DLC bosses.
Agree on all fronts. The music in orphan is meh. The combat in nameless king is absolutely lame...but literally everything else about the fight is epic!
In one day I ran into 2 of your videos, first was your boss run video and this one. Great video, earned a sub. I personally hated Malenia because she feels like a Sekiro boss with Dark Souls mechanics. I got incredibly frustrated with her. Great video!
Interesting fact about Ludwig. I believe he's based on a Buddist story about a crazy horse which guards one of the layers of hell. There's a monster in the Berserk Manga also inspired by this creature
Friede would take my top spot. Everything from the arena adapting to the fight, the duo phase (which actually comes close to a O&S experience), the music... it's all perfect. Overall a really creative fight too. All phases are vastly different: in order you're dealing with a calm, somewhat gimmicky boss (with the disappearing and all), a duo fight and a magic wielding crazy person. Tens across the board.
I thought about this you know but these are just my feelings on them and my knowledge of the lore is limited thus it hasn't really impacted how I feel about these bosses for the most part.
All great choices which I'd also pick. Other bosses that impressed me for some of your criterias were: Radahn (lore, arena and that "big fight" feeling), Gehrman (Bloodborne comes full circle here), Abyss Watchers (feels unique and my god ... that soundtrack!) and The Nameless King (it dawned on me mid-fight who he is which was really special ... and got me killed ... again).
Awesome video! Personally my list would be 10)Lady Maria 9)Artorias 8)Manus 7)Nameless King 6)Mogh Lord of blood 5)Ishinn 4)Gael 3)Frieda 2)Ludwig 1)Orphan of Kos It was surprising to see how different your list was, and I really appreciate your rating system, you’ve earned yourself a new subscriber!
My favorite boss before elden ring was the Burnt Ivory King, the setting before the fight and then the stark contrast when you enter the arena. Just an amazing character story as well. Now it’s Godfrey, the best boss fight ever to me
Very hard choice because From Software has so many absolutely outstanding boss fights... First; never played „Bloodborne“ and „Demon‘s Souls“, so my list is limited to „Dark Souls I - III“, „Sekiro“ and „Elden Ring“. 10. Godrick the Grafted (Elden Ring) One of the most underrated bosses in the entire series; I always get goosebumps as hell when entering his second phase. Awesome design and very fun to fight! 9. Lothric, Younger Prince & Lorian, Elder Prince (Dark Souls III) Imo the best cinematic in the game, fantastic soundtrack and a very interesting „healing“ mechanic. Challenging, varied moveset besides. 8. Emma, the Gentle Blade / Isshin Ashina (Sekiro: Shadows die twice) Best final boss in the series and very emotional... fighting two former allies, maybe friends gives a very different feeling than a duel with a mindless monstrosity or an enemy from beginning. Both of them have great movesets and offer a more than worthy final challenge. Emma maybe has the saddest and most beautiful soundtrack in the whole franchise. 7. Bell Gargoyles (Dark Souls) Fantastic location and very interestin to fight. 6. Rennala, Queen of the Full Moon (Elden Ring) One of the most unique and experimental bosses in the series and maybe the most intense atmosphere of them all. 5. Genichiro Ashina (Sekiro: Shadows die twice) The most authentic and intense sword duel in the game. 4. Sinh, the Slumbering Dragon (Dark Souls II) Best and most authentiv dragon boss in the series; awesome location, varies moveset and high agility. 3. Corrupted Monk (Sekiro: Shadows die twice) Best choreographed „dance“ and flow in the game and a nearly perfect overall. 2. Mohg, Lord of Blood (Elden Ring) Mechanicially maybe the best boss I‘ve ever fought; no other makes these perfect mix of insane, raw fun and a very, veeeery hard challenge; for me he was one of the hardest, if not THE hardest boss in the series. 1. Morgott, the Omen King (Elden Ring) Best lore, location and atmosphere and the most epic boss From Software ever created. His moveset is one of the most varied and complex in the whole series, and the flow is just awesome, even better than Corrupted Monk. For me one of the three best bosses in gaming history and From Softwares masterpiece!
My favorites are those that made me feel a lot of emotions when i first fought them, Soul of Cinder is one of them, Midir makes me also feel bad for him, i love Artorias just for lore alone, but none compare to Gael, he's on another level of sadness, when i killed i thought "oh no, Dark Souls is over, it ended, i don't want it to go", i still cry on his fight! Credits to Pinwheel, laughed so hard at that
Artorias lore is awesome, I love that WE are Artorias. We put the rabid man down and pick up where he left off to create his legend. Pretty good twist I thought, all the legends of the ‘Abysswalker’ were us in the past. I don’t think Fromsoft has done another ‘twist’ like that yet.
@@JKLeeds Haha I was just kidding 😅 My actual favorite is very hard to choose. I can’t choose between Ornstein & Smough, Knight Artorias, Soul of Cinder, Gehrman, Ludwig and Orphan of Kos.
I also think the Genichiro boss fight from Sekiro is the best one! I think it's great primarily because of how no-frills it is. There's no gimmicks, and he doesn't have any specific weaknesses. All you have are the fundamental combat mechanics of the game to beat him with. Building momentum in the fight with him, getting into the flow of it was the most fun I've ever had in a videogame boss fight.
I think that the fact that Bed of Chaos is actually a bit better than people give it credit for, not because it belongs or because she is an actually good encounter, but because she is hard to beat in one go so it is that much more awesome when you don't get killed and complete the trial in one run
Ludwig, the Holy Blade, Orphan of Kos, Slave Knight Gael and Mohg, Lord of Blood. This is my holy quaternity. (I haven't played Sekiro yet). Honourable mentions are: Ornstein & Smough, Knight Artorias, Manus, Father of the Abyss, Black Dragon Kalameet, Fume Knight, Father Gascoigne, Lady Maria, Gerhman, the First Hunter, Pontiff Sulyvahn, Champion Gundyr, The Twin Princes, Dragonslayer Armour, Demon Prince(s), Godrick the Grafted, Godfrey, First Elden Lord and Morgott, The Omen King. *Also, screw Malenia lol.
Nice list, though I would add 2 more Elden Ring Bosses to the bunch that really deserved being placed on this list: Maliketh - His 1st Phase is pretty alright, A-Tier at best but what makes Maliketh one of the best bosses in Elden Ring and Souls-Like is his 2nd Phase. His 2nd Phase is extremely fun since he encourages you a different kind of approach from usual for safe hits (Mostly hit in between his combos instead after his combos). Also him doing certain moves makes him look really badass and it felt like I was dancing with Destined Death while the epic OST is playing out. And just because of his top quality 2nd Phase, he is my 2nd Best Elden Ring Boss and my top 5 Best Boss in all of souls-like. Godfrey/Hoarah Loux - Godfrey is the best souls-like boss I’ve ever faced. He is everything that I would be looking for in a souls-like fight. He has stomp attacks that utilizes jumps perfectly since the jumps felt like rolls in a sense: time the jumps right and you can avoid the stomp’s shockwaves. Due to how he can mix in stomp-based attacks for some of his combo sequence, this makes dodging him extremely fun, since it’s not just about rolling but jumping too, and not to mention that if your positioning his correct, you can strafe towards his left side to avoid taking damage. The fun begins after he does the Regal Roar, where at that point his stomps’ shockwaves are arena-wide. Looking at those arena-wide stomps makes my blood boil even more, mainly because even if I’m not physically there in that fight I can feel the impact of those stomps, like those shockwaves actually broke the 4th wall. This pinnacle-level thrill and fun I’ve experienced makes his 1st Phase one of the best. And I haven’t talked about Phase 2 yet. Hoarah Loux amplifies that intensity with his more aggressive moves, now with his bare hands. His grabs are easily punishable for really good opening windows since he would most likely do attacks that you can strafe to avoid safely and land one hit in between. The part after his Earthshaker is where things are going be most exciting. He has the arena-wide shockwaves that would always keep me on the edge of my seat, and since his movesets are more random than his Phase 1, the mix-up for jumps, rolls, strafes, keeping distance and counterattacking felt like a back-and-forth sequence and it gave me one of the most intense and the most fun experience I’ve had in a souls-like. The music captures the 2 Phases perfectly since the 1st Phase represents Godfrey’s elegant fighting style with his axe while the 2nd Phase represents Hoarah Loux’s raw lust for battle matching with his high aggression. And to add things up, the way he talks upon us is that of an honourable king and warrior, also seeing us as a worthy foe (Every time I fight Godfrey and win I just gave him a bow of respect as a message of “My Lord, it’s been a great honour in dueling you.”) And for those reasons, Godfrey/Hoarah Loux deserves that golden crown upon his head since personally for me he’s just the best. Also at the side note I mostly rated the bosses for how fun and intense they are to fight since that element of a bossfight is one that would determine if I have the will to refight the bosses again. (So yeah, I created a duplicate save file for Maliketh and Godfrey and for the amount of times I beat them at Rune Level 1, Maliketh would be ~30 times while Godfrey would be ~40 times)
Probably the second phase, I don't know why but I find him super hard to read. I did beat him on RL1 but I was using Flame of the Redmanes which just ruins him
@@JKLeeds I see. Personally I find Phase 1 to be harder since his openings are smaller (Had to use Square Off to destroy his poise all the way to Phase 2). And for Phase 2, it’s very doable even with a heavy weapon, let it be a Curved Greatsword, a Greataxe, a Greatspear or a Colossal (Out of all of them Serpent Hunter is one of my favourite weapons to use against him since it can be used at any level and I used it in my RL1 run. Nohitting Maliketh with Serpent Hunter +9 felt amazing)
My top 10 that I made before Elden Ring came out: Owl (atop Ashina Castle), Fume Knight, Friede, Abyss Watchers, Martyr Logarius, Lady Maria, Gael, Soul of Cinder, Sword Saint Isshin, and Burnt Ivory King
@@JKLeeds indeed, every time I see a top 10 it feels like it’s missing someone important. I’d love to fit Nameless King in my top 10 for example but can’t bring myself to replace anyone else who’s up there
My picks are Glock Saint Isshin, Owl Father, Manus, Radahn, Nameless King, Gael, Ludwig, Sister Friede, Fortissax, The Super Londo Bros, Maliketh, Mohg. It should be interesting to see how the AC6 bosses will stack up. I can’t wait.
Some bosses: Gherman, Midir, Father Owl, Father Gascoine, Orphan of Kos, Mogh (I dont mind nihil), Manus, Fume Knight, Prince Demon, Lothric/Lorian, Godrick, Rykard, etc
Yeah he is a good one to be fair, maybe just missed this list for me. The only negative was I don't really like having to avoid all those arrows at the beginning every time
He's alright I really like mohgs arena a lot too with miquella at the top in the egg. And I malenia has a badass arena and lore and all that too. Better then radhan imo but I need to take my time with this game and do a lore through playthrough. I have the platinum trophy and all the achievements on steam and still know very little about whats happening here
Radahn is very cool but I personally didn't enjoy the fight at all. If you try to melee this guy, the camera goes completely crazy and you can't see what he's doing, so you're basically dead in seconds. It's a shame because he's a very very cool boss and his moveset is cool too.
If i had to make a top 5 for myself Ithink it would probably be the following from best to "Worst": Gehrman Abyss Watchers Godfrey Pontiff Isshin They're all just wonderful fights that i have bith fond memories of, and also pushed the boundaries of what a boss could be. The stories of Gehrman and the Abyss Watchers both add so much to their fights that i cant help but enjoy the battles to the max while also wishing i didnt have to kill this once noble intentioned warrior(s).
Regarding Malenia's waterfowl dance: you actually can also bait it out using any number of ranged attacks at your disposal. That extra distance makes it much easier to dodge. You don't need perfect reflexes or bloodhound step(I've never even used it, myself). I found her butterfly clone attack from her second phase to be trickier to deal with, personally
Good luck with Melania; now that from soft nerf bloodhound step, Also the regal ancestral spirit had to be one of my favorite bosses encounters purely out of how it all set up and how magistic it appears in that arena
Great picks for sure. For Demon Souls I would give a nod to Tower Knight for the mechanism and Maiden Astraea for the ambiance. If Garland was a real fight with a huge health bar and some Artorias moves in that pest swamp, oh boy! DS1 Artorias and OnS for sure. I quite like Sinh from DS2 actually as well as Mytha and Looking Glass Knight. I would add Soul of Cinder and Storm King to the list for DS3. Bloodborne has Martyr Logarius and some great DLC bosses. Sekiro has Isshin and Genichiro. For Elden Ring maybe Morgot and Radahn.
100% agree with placidusax being the best elden ring boss. It is a very epic fight, hopefully in the dlc they have a system like sekiros inner boss fights so we can fight him in his prime with 5 heads
genichiro was the hardest boss in sekiro for me. It forced me to shed my stubbornness of dodge step attack and actually learn to play the game, kicking and screaming the whole way.
I feel like people aren't really talking about Manus as much as they should be. Easily the best fight in DS1 if you ask me. Artorias is tough but Manus was tougher. He's got crazy magic attacks, randomized combos, delayed attacks, fast attacks, and is aggressive as hell. And even still, his fight feels fair. He's completely manageable even at sl1 if you have the patience to learn the fight. I don't think any boss will ever give me the satisfaction that nohitting Manus at sl1 did. Edit: having now played ds3, Friede gave me comparable satisfaction. Gael and Midir are also sick but Friede and Manus are my top dogs at the moment.
Waterfowl Dance is easily dodged by just dodging below her in the opposite direction of her charge, takes time to learn, but I honestly don't think it's as bad as everyone says
Since you did top 12 I will do top 12 as well . 12 - Blackflame Friede 11- Nameless King 10- Owl Father 9- Demon Prince 8- Artorias 7- Radahn 6- Darkeater Midir 5- Malenia 4- Ludwig 3- Orphan of Kos 2- Sword Saint Isshin 1- Slave Knight Gael I know my list is very DS3 heavy but what can I say I think DS3 had the best bosses overall , if this list were a top 20 or 30 the list would be a lot more diverse .
Eey, a fellow Placidusax enjoyer! I still haven't played Demon's Souls or Sekiro, but my top 12 would probably be: 1 Ludwig 2 Dragonlord Placidusax 3 Sister Friede 4 Lichdragon Fortissaxx 5 Radagon/Elden Beast 6 Lady Maria 7 Manus, Father of the Abyss 8 Astel 9 Martyr Logarius 10 Slave Knight Gael (super enjoyable fight, very epic arena with the lightning, but kinda meh design compared to other late bosses - not unlike Morgott) 11 Starscourge Radahn (not the most enjoyable fight, but so spectacular and memorable!!!) 12 Burnt Ivory King (most. epic. entrance. EVER!!!)
A great list man! Astel is an interesting one for me, I really wanted to like him more because his design is so cool but I found the fight a bit meh and the fact there's a random other version of him in a mini dungeon cheapens the experience a little.
@@JKLeeds I found his design and attacks SO otherworldly that he had to overtake the spot Ebrietas had in me. He is a bit passive, but still such a fun, eerie and trippy fight! And, again, my god those attacks are so different & cool! At least there’s only 1 reskin, and its more challenging so I don’t really mind.
Man really surprised not to see soul of cinder on this list, one of my favs . An excellent arena with a versatile combat style in phase 1 and a compelling change in both combat style and music in phase 2.
@@Al-ji4gd underrated* you mean. They are the most fun fights From Software ever made yet still many people find them worse than all those "Chads", edgy knights and sad old men.
@@suchar7175 Is this some feminist thing you have going on lol? What difference does their gender and appearance make? They're overrated because they're either poorly designed (Malenia) or too easy (Maria). Sister Friede is better than both but she has the annoying multi-phase thing that I dislike and is, IMO, a bit too quick for DS3. I'll grant Maria is fun, too, she's just not one of the best because of how much of a pushover she is.
@@Al-ji4gd Maria too easy? Try fighting her without parry or just try Blood Level 4 and she is the hardest Bloodborne boss. Malenia poorly designed? Another expert of balance is here I see. She is the ultimate test of skill and patience, just another level in this category. Three completely different phases is one of the main things what make Friede just the best From Soft boss. You must joke if you think that is too fast for DS3. If you can't keep up with her speed, just use quicker weapon (you don't have to do it, she can be easily defeated with every weapons, it's just advice for anyone who complains like you). (Take note that all what I wrote is just my opinion and my taste. For me they are the best and it's not only appearance make them the best.)
solid list, I recommend learning the timing for Malenia's waterfowl dance though, it's not nearly as hard as it seems and I am now able to consistently dodge her flurry as long as I'm spaced properly from her
If you're playing pure melee and no summons, and using any kind of greatsword (normal, curved, ultra, etc.) It is slow enough, that if you start an attack right before she jumps up for water fowl, its physically impossible to create enough distance to avoid the first flurry.
@@limb-o7180 With the old souls games, you were considered terrible if you used player summons. A lot of people carry that mindset with spirit summons. And pure melee is always the most fun
@@whenthehowisandmebutthedot8493 I'm not talking about summons, I'm talking about AOWs. There are a ton of great ashes of war you can use against malenia
@@limb-o7180 oh I know, im totally fine with ash of wars, I meant just no incantations or sorceries. Though I was using blood hounds fang, which you are unable to put ash of wars on.
I can't truly remember which one is the best, it won't be promosing but here is my top 10. 1.Alonne, the only boss that can hockey skating jumbing around and dodging, likely the fastest boss in Ds2 if not Dark Souls or Soulsborne Universe(on feet). 2.Soul of Cunder, the replay value and the theme is what makes him the best after Alonne, the best final boss of any souls. 3.Orinstein and Smough, I'm not sure but they were so fun and challenging, they also feel so rewarding, themetically they are the best. 4.Maliketh, it is the best Elden Ring boss, with Elden Ring's huge content and such an impressive and unique boss with a great design, he deserves it. 5.Champion Gundyr, this boss never fails me to be enjoyable, at first he smacks you over and over until you truly learn from defeat, I like that there isn't much but that it constantly punishes you which is in its own just that good. 6.Kalameet, this boss is truly everlasting, it stood as my best dragon fight ever, there is much to say about it however I love the fact that Midir is just him but so thick-headed and so boring in general, which is bad since it is an indicator that souls dragon bosses are getting downgraded in my fair knowledge. I wish we could have shot it to ground our self, it would be higher and just themetically better imo. 7.Gehrman, back in time he was the first to be considered a duel boss, so much similarities in mechanic to the hunter, it was also unique in player's experience since they used to fight mindless beasts and terrfiying monsters, now it is a man to a man and it was well done. 8.Isshin (both SS Isshin and Isshin A but I prefer Issshin Ashina), the reason why I prefer the old Isshin because he doesn't use a pistol jjk, this one has been respected from everyone in the land, he also has more experience and enemies than before, he is old and he fights us with more agony than SS Isshin that only fight us for dominance. 9.Burnt Ivory King, likely because of the theme and the lore, this guy is an absolute madlad and had achieved better than any King has ever in fromsoft, it had a new concept too. Laurence the 1st vicar/ Gwyn lord of conder, a tie cause they are the most tragic of any entity in souls universe, they had a very brilliant and graceful side but they have it the worst, simply the greater you rise the harder you fall. nice list you had there, I really liked Kalameet which nobody seems to enjoy, pretty underrated.
@@JKLeeds too right I genuinely love to hear people legacy on these games especially the strong ones, it only shows their love for the product which is contrary to what people think of souls fans as salty and nasty, which is not so true since people here are sharing and caring and there is always that sunbro to support you through(not in Sekiro though).
I have yet to play the ringed city DLC and Bloodborne but still, here are my top 12:- 13. Dragonslayer Armor( just couldn't resist including him lol) 12. Isshin 11. The twin princes 10. Malenia 9. The Nameless king 8. Sister Friede 7. Genichiro/ Abyss Watchers 6. Godfrey 5. Godrick 4. Knight Artorias 3. Radagon(minus the Elden beast) 2. Pontiff Sulyvahn 1. @@JKLeeds Thx, i really think it will change after playing these and i can play the ringed city DLC rn but Bloodborne, i'll have to wait for them to release a PC port. Oh and also i've kinda changed the list a lil bit cause i just love the abyss watchers and dont know why i forgot to add them in the first place lol.
Can we see your rankings for most difficult bosses? I like seeing perspectives because certain people struggle with boss patterns more than others. So I’m curious lol
Good idea! I might put this out as a future project, thanks for the suggestion 🙂 my next video is going to be the part 1 montage of my Dark Souls 2 no levelling run, hopefully out this week
Just played through Dark Souls 3 again, and I forgot how good the DLC bosses were. Slave Knight Gael and Darkeater Midir are just on a different level.
Imo (after Elden Ring dlc): 1| SS Isshin 2| Slave Knight Gael 3| Inner Father 4| Messmer the Impaler 5| Godfrey/Hoarah Loux 6| Sister Friede 7| Bayle the Dread 8| Mohg, Lord of Blood 9| Ludwig the Accursed 10| Darkeater Midir 11| Lady Maria of the Astral Clocktower 12| Knight Artorias
My top 10 ( As someone who unfortunately hasn't played any fromsoft DLC except for DS2): 10. Fume Knight 9. Cleric Beast 8. Owl Father 7. Soul of Cinder 6. Nameless King 5. Ornstein and Smough 4. Father Gascoigne 3. Twin Princes 2. Isshin the Sword Saint 1. Gehrman the First Hunter
When it comes to Genichiro, I kinda had my experience with him ruined. On my first playthrough I didn't find that window that is needed to scale the castle. So I ventured on, beating other bosses, hitting that click moment on other fights. I actually got to the point where I couldn't find anything else to do. That was when I started looking stuff up and found out I missed that window, from what I read, I wasn't the only one. When looking up how to find this fight, I saw many people really love the fight and this and that. Saying it taught them the game, but I only ever died when he used lightning. This was both to me hitting that click moment earlier, but also getting more attack and defense from exploring.
I was about to start bitching because of a lack of Spirit of Motherwill, or Answerer, THEN I noticed the "soulsbourne" bit in the title. So fair enough.
You know this is a great point dude, I really struggle to know what to title these videos anymore. Soulsborne seems really outdated now with Sekiro and Elden Ring but saying Fromsoft is also not right as they have a bunch of games before Demon's Souls 😕
For waterfowl dance, just gotta learn how the move works, you don't need frame perfect dodges. For the first lunge run around her while in the air, then dodge twice, dodge in the opposite direction for the second lunge, and then the opposite direction again for the third. You might take 1 or 2 swipes but you won't die, overall not that bad after a little bit of practice, just like every other boss EDIT: there's literally an item that negates Nihil, just do some looking around and talk to the NPC's and you'll find it
I had the item for nihil but I don't think avoiding an atrack should depend on some item hidden in a random church in the middle of nowhere which you may or may not find.
My favorites have to be the great Bloodborne DLC trio. Ludwig, Maria, and Orphan, never struggled much with any of them but god they’re worth a run through the game. Gael is up there too along with maybe the twin princes
Inner Father, Sword Saint Isshin, Ludwig, Gael, Malenia, Orphan of Kos, Margit/Morgott (both fights), Maliketh, Mohg, Inner Genichiro, True Corrupted Monk, Father Gascoigne, Godfrey, Twin Princes < First 5 are my top 5 but otherwise there's no real order. All my favorites come from Bloodborne, DS3, Sekiro, and Elden Ring just because in general I like the combat of the newer games better and the movesets of the bosses are larger and more complex.
Malenia is a really cool boss, the first time i no hit her waterfowl without running away put a smile on my face and i even let go of my controller and died, it took me 6 hours to achieve it. But i get that it can be frustrating and it was frustrating for me to learn for sure.
12. Mohg 11. Maiden Astraea 10. Fume knight 9. Genichiro 8.maliketh 7. Orphan of kos 6. Slave knight Gael 5. Artorias 4. Radahn 3. Burnt ivory king 2. Old king alant 1. Melania My top 12 is constantly changing but this is how I feel today! Great list you explained your reasoning very well for each individual boss placement
I really dig your scoring system but how you weigh the scores might have an issue because aesthetics, arena, and music really go hand in hand and together shouldn’t overshadow the mechanics that much. Perhaps if the mechanics category was worth 10 pts
Bed of Chaos is the single reason I didn’t beat DS1 for a third time to platinum. After the fourth or fifth run back and instant random death again to the boss I quit and have not gone back. Beat DS3 at least 20 times however.
So basic of me but man I love Gael. He’s really my platinum standard for a fun challenge. I’ve got a dude in ds3 with a regular ultragreatsword, who will never actually beat gael. His job is to stand outside his boss room for the rest of time so I can fight gael whenever I want, and then die when he has like 2 hp left
Unpopular opinion, but my favorite boss is the fire giant, specifically when riding on torrent since I believe that he is designed for it seeing as how a lot of his moves are way easier to dodge on horseback and hes much easier to see too. I always liked the concept of ancient dragon, despite him being horrible to fight against and to me fire giant was what ancient dragon should have been. A titanic boss that can kill you in one or two hits and has a massive healthbar but is also is fair and has a wide variety of moves. I love his design, the spectacle, The second phase transition is one of my favorite in the series, music is great, arena is beautiful, he never feels like he dies too quickly so you really get to sink you feet into the fight, and has a large amount of ways for you to kill him with his wide variety of weak spots.
@@JKLeeds Yeah, its awesome! Gehrman was a very close second for me too though. My only problem with him is I don't like how easy he can be with parries cause he can die too quickly before the music really kicks in, especially with a skill build. Other than that, I think everything else was fantastic.
12. Soul of Cinder 11. Mohg (real one) 10. Ornstein/Smough 9. Sword Saint 8. God Devouring Serpent/Rykard (no spear) 7. Gerhman 6. Sinh/Midir (tie, love them both) 5. Father Owl 4. Ludwig 3. Elana the Squalid Queen 2. Laurence the First Vicar 1. Slave Knight Gael There’s a looooot of good bosses. Didn’t think Elana would be replaced from my #1 but Laurence I enjoyed more, then thought he’d never get topped but Gael was perfect. Not hard but the perfect finale for the series. Just a great note to end on.
Ooh and Storm King or Old Hero for honorable mentions. Storm King is THE most cinematic fight in the series by a mile, and Old Hero is crazy intense. Probably hardest Demon Souls enemy in a straight fight.
I like how you ESPECIALLY wanna hear from ppl who love bed of chaos , hell I wanna see that too Anyway. DS1 ORNSTEIIN N Smough Ds2 for me(just fir memories in these fir me) the pursuer. Nothing like climbing that ladder early Gme and he flies in wraringshiny armour had me amaze. Not exactly hard but an amazing visual Ds3 dancer of boreal valley... Just for most memorable. It Gsve me most trouble Elden ring.... Radhan( his lore is great, he was actually a good knight but afflicted with the rot. I downright felt bad fir him) Bloodborne Ludwig (but there are quite a few in this game) Sekiro.... Genichiro, apes, or lady butterfly ( old bag is s a real skill check on a first playthrough) Why didn't you have Radhan on your list? I'm curious, or rykard
Great list mate. Obviously gonna disagree with stuff but there are so many good bosses that tops 3s are gonna be different. Personally Midir is my number 1 and is exactly what I've always wanted in a dragon fight. Mohg probably at 2 and 3 is between Gael and Maria.
Yeah it's a testament to these games that there are so many good choices! Midir has a special place for me as it's one of the only bosses in the series that I've done a no hit run on 🙂
I can see an argument for Demon Prince but I don't think Friede and Ariandel are better. O&S is just more impactful overall to the series imo, I found the Demon Prince boss kinda random and forgettable
I personally think O and S are better than Friede and Ariandel. However, The Demon Prince has become one of my favorite duo fights in the series, easily sitting beside O and S!
Gwyn is right towards the top for me. By FAR the most memorable music in the series. Absolutely beautiful, unique and truly haunting. The arena is also a perfect 5/5.
My personal favorite is Burnt Ivory King, Soul of Cinder and Starscourge Radahn because of their aesthetic, lore and arena setting.
All good choices man! It's a testament to these games that there are so many valid choices.
yes i ivory king was the best boss ever
@@bboy32167 The ivory king himself might not be that special combat wise but the fight progression from the from entering the fog wall and dropping down with my bros to the finish is just perfection in presentation.
Malenia was so close to being amazing. A couple minor tweaks would make her pretty much a perfect apex challenge. As a sword-and-shield user, the fact that she can heal off blocked attacks literally forces a build change for that one fight.
Yeah healing from blocking I agree is a bit silly. I just wish Waterfowl had an extra second or so wind up
@@JKLeeds I didn't end up disliking Waterfowl all that much honestly. It's a devastating move that's tough to dodge but didn't make me nearly as salty as losing all of my progress to her healing lol
people may hate me for saying this but I think an open world makes a good boss fight hard to acheive based on the balancing to not be as fine tuned as it was in their more linear experiences
Why are you using a shield if not for parrying?
@@JKLeeds goes full on hulk hogan, he’s just had enough
A fellow Darklurker enjoyer
Demons were probably my favorite surprise for playing the dlc, I knew about the dragon due to a friend having spoiled and Gail but the demons were unknown to me. And boy the dk3 demon fights are some of my favorite of the series the fact you can like orstein and smough have a totally different second phase is just cool and makes different attempts interesting in a very cool way.
The shared health bar of darklurker is a plus too.
personally I thought ornstein and smough was pretty underwhelming even when I first fought them. demon's and darklurker both blow o and s out of the park and it's not even close
I personally would've included Midir instead of Placidusax, much more dynamic since you are pretty much obligated to stay in front of him
Midir is a basic ass boss compared to Placidusax. Take off your rose tinted goggles.
@@echo1180 placidusax is extremely vulnerable during his laser attack
@@Ohmagawdjr Outside of spectacle, Midir wins in every other aspect of boss quality.
Honestly Mohg has to be one of my favorites purely because of the aesthetic. Although his Nihl move can be a bit unfair forcing you to drain flasks, I found myself not really caring that much because of how cool his moves and the arena looked.
Mohg is awesome. And that theme is godly
And the gradual heal per Nihil is SO MUCH BETTER than "here's another healthbar out of nowhere"..!!!!
I actually quite like the Nihil mechanic. It forces you to play with fewer flasks while simultaneously giving him more health than you’d expect.
The Nihil attack is almost entirely negated by the one physic tear that you can find in Altus
How about Gael? He's the best for me in this kind of category of boss
I really believe that lore needs to be its own category. The story behind a boss really gets me invested, almost as much as the mechanics.
Wish granted, Ludwig still takes number 1.
You know what, I might as well throw out my own top 12 at this point, just for the sake of comparison:
1. Ornstein and Smough
2. Orphan of Kos
3. Ludwig the Accursed/Holy Blade
4. Friede and Ariandel
5. Owl (Father)
6. Gehrman
7. Sword Saint Isshin
8. Sulyvahn
9. Lady Maria
10. Godfrey
11. Soul of Cinder
12. Slave Knight Gael
13. Fume Knight
14. Maliketh
15. Knight Artorias
Okay I extended it to top 15, I couldn't resist! I know mechanically Ornstein and Smough have shown their age, but they are just so amazing at what they do, being the best gank From have ever managed and allowing for so many permutations in how you experience them, that they still stand out as THE iconic boss fight of Soulsborne as a genre I feel.
You’re an extremely underrated creator, I hope you blow up and get the recognition you deserve for putting so much effort into your videos
Thanks man! Thats really lovely to hear
Your content is outstanding
7- Raime
6- Sinh
5- Placidusax
4- Smough and Ornstein
3- Maria
2- Tower Knight
1- Ludwig
Thanks man! Super kind of you to say! Nice list also!
Yes mate! I'm a big Godzilla fan and this was the first thing I thought of!
I like the “top 12” going off format. I respect it. Keep being a rebel broski
😂 thanks man! Just lots I wanted to talk about
@@JKLeeds hell yeah. Subbed. Love me a man who’s passionate bout his souls bosses
Some of my favourite bosses are Morgott, Godskin noble, Abyss Watchers, Dragon rider, Ludwig, Godrick the Grafted
Morgott is my favourite boss in the souls series, closely followed by Orphan or Kos, Gerhman, Rennala, Radagon, father Gascoin, Rykard and then Godskin Apostle. Honestly a lot more Elden ring bosses are my favourites
Love your choice in music. Dark Souls sure has some cheerful, upbeat music at times.
So it does!
@@JKLeeds 💀
Hey we can say the same about DS1 Centipede, Bed of Chaos, Discharge, And the 3 Reskined Demons
@@devildolphin2102 very true, dark souls 2 having 10 awful/boring bosses doesnt change the fact that every boss outside of gwyn/dlc in ds1 sucks
@@zackmash851I’d add Ornstein and smough to that list and probably gargoyles
radagon from elden ring is my favorite boss. he's cool looking, his mechanics arent complete bs, the arena is okay, but the music is a 6/5
Great list! Couple of my favs from each game not mentioned in the video:
- Demon's Souls: Penetrator (a progenitor of the duel-type boss for the series, a bit simple but enjoyable nevertheless)
- Dark Souls: Manus (great half-human half-beast enemy with complex and fair moveset)
- Dark Souls 2: Fume Knight (perfectly balanced for the speed of the game; another epic duel boss)
- Dark Souls 3: Champion Gundyr (super aggressive in the 2nd phase but still fair due to how much i-frames your roll has in this game)
- Bloodborne: Father Gascoine (super tough for an early boss but great learning experience and still enjoyable on repeat runs)
- Sekiro: Father Owl (yet another awesome duel; no bullshit gimmicks, just swords clashing with blistering speed)
- Elden Ring: Godskin Noble (this fatty actually feels like a classic souls boss with not too spammy moveset; the only bad attack is the unreactable belly flop.
Any other Fromsoft lists in this style you'd be interested in seeing?
2 bosses I would have added:
The unnamed king.
Ah glad you enjoyed it my dude!
Interesting fact about Ludwig. I believe he's based on a Buddist story about a crazy horse which guards one of the layers of hell. There's a monster in the Berserk Manga also inspired by this creature
Glad to see Placidusax in here
Friede would take my top spot.
Great video! I think having another category like lore could have helped you a lot here. More lore = more epicness
I thought about this you know but these are just my feelings on them and my knowledge of the lore is limited thus it hasn't really impacted how I feel about these bosses for the most part.
All great choices which I'd also pick. Other bosses that impressed me for some of your criterias were: Radahn (lore, arena and that "big fight" feeling), Gehrman (Bloodborne comes full circle here), Abyss Watchers (feels unique and my god ... that soundtrack!) and The Nameless King (it dawned on me mid-fight who he is which was really special ... and got me killed ... again).
Love those as well, Abyss Watchers I think is very underrated! Glad you liked the video 🙂
Awesome video! Personally my list would be
10)Lady Maria
9)Artorias
8)Manus
7)Nameless King
6)Mogh Lord of blood
5)Ishinn
4)Gael
3)Frieda
2)Ludwig
1)Orphan of Kos
It was surprising to see how different your list was, and I really appreciate your rating system, you’ve earned yourself a new subscriber!
Ah thanks man! Really glad you liked it 🙂
Sword Saint Isshin is probably my favorite boss by a long shot.
sword saint isshin is really cool but I never really enjoyed him much because I don't find spear enemies very fun to fight
My favorite boss before elden ring was the Burnt Ivory King, the setting before the fight and then the stark contrast when you enter the arena. Just an amazing character story as well. Now it’s Godfrey, the best boss fight ever to me
I was definitely expecting Germhan to make the list.
Very hard choice because From Software has so many absolutely outstanding boss fights...
First; never played „Bloodborne“ and „Demon‘s Souls“, so my list is limited to „Dark Souls I - III“, „Sekiro“ and „Elden Ring“.
10. Godrick the Grafted (Elden Ring)
One of the most underrated bosses in the entire series; I always get goosebumps as hell when entering his second phase. Awesome design and very fun to fight!
9. Lothric, Younger Prince & Lorian, Elder Prince (Dark Souls III)
Imo the best cinematic in the game, fantastic soundtrack and a very interesting „healing“ mechanic. Challenging, varied moveset besides.
8. Emma, the Gentle Blade / Isshin Ashina (Sekiro: Shadows die twice)
Best final boss in the series and very emotional... fighting two former allies, maybe friends gives a very different feeling than a duel with a mindless monstrosity or an enemy from beginning. Both of them have great movesets and offer a more than worthy final challenge. Emma maybe has the saddest and most beautiful soundtrack in the whole franchise.
7. Bell Gargoyles (Dark Souls)
Fantastic location and very interestin to fight.
6. Rennala, Queen of the Full Moon (Elden Ring)
One of the most unique and experimental bosses in the series and maybe the most intense atmosphere of them all.
5. Genichiro Ashina (Sekiro: Shadows die twice)
The most authentic and intense sword duel in the game.
4. Sinh, the Slumbering Dragon (Dark Souls II)
Best and most authentiv dragon boss in the series; awesome location, varies moveset and high agility.
3. Corrupted Monk (Sekiro: Shadows die twice)
Best choreographed „dance“ and flow in the game and a nearly perfect overall.
2. Mohg, Lord of Blood (Elden Ring)
Mechanicially maybe the best boss I‘ve ever fought; no other makes these perfect mix of insane, raw fun and a very, veeeery hard challenge; for me he was one of the hardest, if not THE hardest boss in the series.
1. Morgott, the Omen King (Elden Ring)
Best lore, location and atmosphere and the most epic boss From Software ever created.
I agree with your list for the most part, though I would have added Godfrey somewhere for sure, it's such an amazing fight.
Great grey wolf sif still has my favourite boss music in any souls game, just so iconic
My top five:
1. Orphan of Kos
2. Placidusax
3. Martyr Logarius
4. Maliketh
5. Radagon
My favourite part about soulsbourne bosses is their ability to look epic and also challenging.
Thank you for accepting me, my favorite is Bed of Chaos 20/20
Haha I knew there would be one! What makes it your favourite? 😃
@@JKLeeds Haha I was just kidding 😅 My actual favorite is very hard to choose. I can’t choose between Ornstein & Smough, Knight Artorias, Soul of Cinder, Gehrman, Ludwig and Orphan of Kos.
Ah you got my hopes up 😂 those are all good choices though!
Totally agree with all of this!
Good list! These games have so many viable choices
Nice list, though I would add 2 more Elden Ring Bosses to the bunch that really deserved being placed on this list:
Maliketh - His 1st Phase is pretty alright, A-Tier at best but what makes Maliketh one of the best bosses in Elden Ring and Souls-Like is his 2nd Phase.
So definitely agree with Godfrey. I think he's a great boss! I'm less of a fan of Maliketh but maybe just because I suck at fighting him 😂
@@JKLeeds I see. Speaking of Maliketh which Phase do you find harder for him?
A pretty solid list for sure! It's a testament to these games that there are so many good options
@@JKLeeds indeed, every time I see a top 10 it feels like it’s missing someone important. I’d love to fit Nameless King in my top 10 for example but can’t bring myself to replace anyone else who’s up there
Dancer, Fume Knight, and Martyr Logarius are probably my favorite bosses in no particular order.
Some good choices!
Dancer is a good call! Haven't seen anyone mention that yet
Your criteria at the beginning of 4 guidelines made me immediately think of Rykkard.
Rykard I think has the joint best aesthetics of any boss in the series, tied with Ludwig. He also is the best gimmick fight imo
Soul of cinder destroyed me, not because he was hard, but because the music kept putting tears to my eyes
I like how you ABS at 12:19, perfectly executed
Thanks man, that took a while to get the timing down
Some bosses:
Gherman, Midir, Father Owl, Father Gascoine, Orphan of Kos, Mogh (I dont mind nihil), Manus, Fume Knight, Prince Demon, Lothric/Lorian, Godrick, Rykard, etc
I agree with most of your least but i would include gehrman too but all things aside it was a great video good job mate
Thanks my dude! 🙂
I definitely agree with Luwig for #1 and Gael for #2, here's some of my favourites that weren't on this list:
Orphan of Kos, Twin Princes and Morgott
General radahn had it all, lore, flexibility in way to fight him, interesting moveset, cool arena.
@@darkmelusina8388 Yep, camera is all over the place. Radahn is actually better than I thought he would be, though. Still not an amazing fight.
If i had to make a top 5 for myself Ithink it would probably be the following from best to
"Worst":
Gehrman
Abyss Watchers
Godfrey
Pontiff
Isshin
They're all just wonderful fights that i have bith fond memories of, and also pushed the boundaries of what a boss could be.
It's actually much easier to dodge these days also, they patched light roll to make it much more effective since I made this video
Good luck with Melania; now that from soft nerf bloodhound step, Also the regal ancestral spirit had to be one of my favorite bosses encounters purely out of how it all set up and how magistic it appears in that arena
Yeh haven't played Elden Ring in a few months now, know there's been some patches
Best video because the mario galaxy music
Gotta love it! So epic ❤️
That beginning hurt my eyes jesus
😂
genichiro was the hardest boss in sekiro for me. It forced me to shed my stubbornness of dodge step attack and actually learn to play the game, kicking and screaming the whole way.
So much this! Totally my experience as well, had never parried before Sekiro!
He is a good boss for sure, I just don't really like him as much as the others here. Beating him on SL1 was super satisfying though, I agree!
Bed of chaos is unironically a pretty good gimmick fight if you simply cheese it with the quit game strat
Waterfowl Dance is easily dodged by just dodging below her in the opposite direction of her charge, takes time to learn, but I honestly don't think it's as bad as everyone says
Hatered demon/Guardian ape/corrupted monk/fther owl/Dancer/Nameless king/Prince lothric/Midir and....
Since you did top 12 I will do top 12 as well .
12 - Blackflame Friede
11- Nameless King
10- Owl Father
9- Demon Prince
8- Artorias
7- Radahn
6- Darkeater Midir
5- Malenia
4- Ludwig
3- Orphan of Kos
2- Sword Saint Isshin
1- Slave Knight Gael
I know my list is very DS3 heavy but what can I say I think DS3 had the best bosses overall , if this list were a top 20 or 30 the list would be a lot more diverse .
Good list! Quite a few crossovers with mine 🙂
Eey, a fellow Placidusax enjoyer! I still haven't played Demon's Souls or Sekiro, but my top 12 would probably be:
1 Ludwig
2 Dragonlord Placidusax
3 Sister Friede
4 Lichdragon Fortissaxx
5 Radagon/Elden Beast
6 Lady Maria
7 Manus, Father of the Abyss
8 Astel
9 Martyr Logarius
10 Slave Knight Gael (super enjoyable fight, very epic arena with the lightning, but kinda meh design compared to other late bosses - not unlike Morgott)
11 Starscourge Radahn (not the most enjoyable fight, but so spectacular and memorable!!!)
12 Burnt Ivory King (most. epic. entrance.
Fair, I definitely like him more than Ebrietas for sure!
Man really surprised not to see soul of cinder on this list, one of my favs . An excellent arena with a versatile combat style in phase 1 and a compelling change in both combat style and music in phase 2.
Yeah it's a cool boss for sure, just didn't do it for me like these others
Gael looks just like another knight, because he is, imo it makes it even more beautifull
Sister Friede, Malenia and Lady Maria are my favourites of all-time. Always glad to see them all in top 10.
All fantastic!
All waifus, all overrated boss fights.
@@whenthehowisandmebutthedot8493 yeah, but you're handicapping yourself if you're playing pure melee with a slow weapon. use the game's features lol
No joke Genichiro killed me at least 100 times. I've never been so pumped to beat a from boss in my life.
Laurence the 1st vicar/ Gwyn lord of conder, a tie cause they are
the most tragic of any entity in souls universe, they had a very brilliant and graceful side but they have it the worst, simply the greater you rise the harder you fall.
nice list you had there, I really liked Kalameet which nobody seems to enjoy, pretty underrated.
Some good choices here man! There's no wrong answers when it comes to this question 🙂
@@JKLeeds
too right I genuinely love to hear people legacy on these games especially the strong ones, it only shows their love for the product which is contrary to what people think of souls fans as salty and nasty, which is not so true since people here are sharing and caring and there is always that sunbro to support you through(not in Sekiro though).
I’m surprised to not see orphan of kos on this list
Am i the only one who loves Abyss Watchers? i mean, their lore is really cool and more than one boss hitting themselves? i mean, that's crazy!
I have yet to play the ringed city DLC and Bloodborne but still, here are my top 12:-
13. Dragonslayer Armor( just couldn't resist including him lol)
12. Isshin
11. The twin princes
10. Malenia
9. The Nameless king
8. Sister Friede
7. Genichiro/ Abyss Watchers
6. Godfrey
5. Godrick
4. Knight Artorias
3. Radagon(minus the Elden beast)
2. Pontiff Sulyvahn
1. The Omen King 👑
These were difficult to rank and also, I love all of these bosses and many more so so much!
Awesome choices! Ringed City DLC and Bloodborne DLC have some really strong bosses so be interested to see if your list changes after playing these
@@JKLeeds Thx, i really think it will change after playing these and i can play the ringed city DLC rn but Bloodborne, i'll have to wait for them to release a PC port.

5. Ornstein and Smough
4. Father Gascoigne
3. Twin Princes
2. Isshin the Sword Saint
1. Gehrman the First Hunter
The DK Country music during O&S...😂😂🤣
😁
You might take 1 or 2 swipes but you won't die, overall not that bad after a little bit of practice, just like every other boss
EDIT: there's literally an item that negates Nihil, just do some looking around and talk to the NPC's and you'll find it
I had the item for nihil but I don't think avoiding an atrack should depend on some item hidden in a random church in the middle of nowhere which you may or may not find.
Great choices!
Malenia is a really cool boss, the first time i no hit her waterfowl without running away put a smile on my face and i even let go of my controller and died, it took me 6 hours to achieve it. But i get that it can be frustrating and it was frustrating for me to learn for sure.
To be fair, I made this before they patched the light roll. These days it's much easier if you're light rolling
12. Mohg

4. Radahn
3. Burnt ivory king
2. Old king alant
1. Melania
My top 12 is constantly changing but this is how I feel today! Great list you explained your reasoning very well for each individual boss placement
Thanks man! Nice list also, very diverse!
Very interesting points! I have to agree , that mid fight cut scene really got me the first time I saw it!
@@JKLeeds Yeah, its awesome! Gehrman was a very close second for me too though. My only problem with him is I don't like how easy he can be with parries cause he can die too quickly before the music really kicks in, especially with a skill build. Other than that, I think everything else was fantastic.
12. Soul of Cinder
11. Mohg (real one)
10. Ornstein/Smough
9. Sword Saint
8. God Devouring Serpent/Rykard (no spear)
7. Gerhman
6. Sinh/Midir (tie, love them both)
5. Father Owl
4. Ludwig
3. Elana the Squalid Queen
2. Laurence the First Vicar
1. Slave Knight Gael
There’s a looooot of good bosses.
I like how you ESPECIALLY wanna hear from ppl who love bed of chaos , hell I wanna see that too
Anyway. DS1 ORNSTEIIN N Smough
Ds2 for me(just fir memories in these fir me) the pursuer. Nothing like climbing that ladder early Gme and he flies in wraringshiny armour had me amaze. Not exactly hard but an amazing visual
Ds3 dancer of boreal valley... Just for most memorable. It Gsve me most trouble
Elden ring.... Radhan( his lore is great, he was actually a good knight but afflicted with the rot.
I downright felt bad fir him)
Bloodborne Ludwig (but there are quite a few in this game)
Sekiro.... Genichiro, apes, or lady butterfly ( old bag is s a real skill check on a first playthrough)
Why didn't you have Radhan on your list? I'm curious, or rykard
Haha Bed of Chaos people are my favourite types of people! 😄
Midir has a special place for me as it's one of the only bosses in the series that I've done a no hit run on 🙂
Demon Prince, and Friede and Ariandel are better duo bosses that O&S.
My fav will always be Maria from blood borne. If was the perfect combination of non stop attacks without being impossible
