This is My Darling by eminem off of his album titled "Relapse". This is the first time we are introduced to the struggle eminem faces with addiction and the effort to try and move past his alter ego slim shady.
This song is amazing in the fact that it touches on a topic - addiction - that most people can't really put into words when they are fighting the battle. Eminem puts his internal wars on full display for us.

Another amazing breakdown, thank you! I've always been confused about what the "dark" voice in this song was representing. I like your take on it. Certainly I realized it could be Slim Shady but I never thought of it representing his addiction. I definitely see how it could be both things.
Relapse is my 3rd favorite Em album. It kills me that so many of his fans trash it because of the accents. They completely miss the brilliance of the storytelling, rhyme schemes and flows displayed throughout this album.
yeah it took me awhile to realize it was his addiction trying to talk him back into using and him fighting it!
its a good album!! and yeah it's a shame. A lot of people didn't know where he was going with his music and this album and how unstructured it was didn't help that...but it definitely has some good tracks!! the story telling is next level...especially on this song and in stay wide awake

Relapse got slept on for years, now it's considered by most to be the 4th best album in his catalog. It literally takes years for Eminem's own fans to realize the greatness. Encore is the only bad Eminem album and it has some great tracks on it.
The ‘Dre’ on the phone, is part of his anxiety. He’s scared that Dre, won’t respect him or want to be his friend anymore if he talks to him about his feelings of terror that it was only substance that made him the man he took a chance on. Anxiety thrives on fear. Unfortunately it’s also our brains (at times) overreacting in a way to protect us. This song hits

Dude... do the greatest from Kamikaze... Rhyme Scheme, wordplay, and punchlines in the last verse especially are insane. Overshadowed by other tracks but the lyricism in that last verse is absolute top tier.

You forgot to mention at the end of the song where both em and slim speak at the same time showing that em lost the fight against shady and they are now one. The chainsaw seemed to me like shady had taken over again and they are now turning the chainsaw on and going on their murder spree

BTW, at the time, there were rumours that on Relapse, there will be a "Stan 2", of course, until MMLP2 "Bad Guy" is the official sequel to Stan, however the two hidden tracks (My Darling and Careful What You Wish For) on Relapse are the highlight of the double album, and combine the two, is very much like a "Stan 2", it quite an irony that Relapse is probably one of my least favourite album from Em, however it has this song which is one of my favourite song from Em, definitely an all time top 10 if not top 5 song!
In fact, I think in Bad Guy, Em took a page out of My Darling and makes the last verse in a similar style, so corresponding to the rumoured "Stan 2", although Em never admitted that the song My Darling has anything to do with Stan, but it is also story about alter ego. So, depending on how you take it, I personally think Em made the two songs on Relapse with much more depth than any other songs on the album, pure genius!

This whole album was inspired by serial killers, while Em was in rehab he watched a lot of documentaries on serial killers.
I love this song and you are so smart oh, I can tell you're not an alcoholic or drug addict, at your age I wasn't either, until I found out I had brain tumors at 25 and went completely blind after having 20/20 vision And they prescribed me Oxycontin 310 a month for 8 years and I wasn't an addict at first probably up till 6 years of it I wasn't because I didn't think about it all day that's what makes an addict 2, what I mean is they say you cross this imaginary line is when all you can think about is those pills what's was in my case I never really drank I hated alcohol I never did anything until I had three brain surgeries which you would think I had an excuse but not for 8 years I didn't in when I finally decided to stop I realized I couldn't because opiates around body addiction and I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy so I understand Eminem and it sucks when you do it late in life I don't know if he did but I didn't do that until I was 36 so it sucks because my kids were grown and now I have a lot of years sober and I'm proud of myself but I don't even think about it anymore I just know that if I wasn't prescribed those pills I probably would have never been addicted because their body addiction like I'm not saying I never went out clubbing and shit I have but I never drank till I was ready to die and couldn't stop I only went out one night a year and have fun with my friends and that was it but when I got sick my whole life like fucking you ruined let me tell you it cost me a marriage it cost me a house I got a new one now but it took a long time to get it , but thank you for being so smart and knowledgeable about it knowledge is power if I knew when I was young nobody knew about those pills I don't even think the doctors did, and if they did I'm glad I'm suing them LOL but I've been sober for over 10 years so yep I understand that statement but in a way I don't because I don't even think about it I don't even think about it at all it's just my life is normal now and that's it it's like it was before I realized I was addicted to drugs at 36 that's all, but I do understand that some people do struggle with that so I am not putting anybody down don't take it that way please Mia oh, I actually thought you were so much older than what you are wow
