Excellent job Russell in explaining and demonstrating "Pete Cowen's Axe Drill!" I have tried this out and it does get your body in a better position to hit down into the ball! Well Done Russell!
i use the drill as you showed a lot, it puts the swing action into something simple and practical that maybe we've done before or can visualize, a bit more instinctive. thnx.
It can also help to look at a spot 2 to 3 inches in front of the ball, ignore the ball, and tell yourself to hit that spot. It encourages you to shift your weight onto your lead foot.
I've seen this analogy and it retarded my swing improvement. Stance, grip, takeaway, swing technique/ plane...somehow needs to be understood as a whole; not one at the expense of the other.

I’ve found that an impact bag works nicely with this drill. Another gem here, RH.

Shush,....don't give the secret away😂😂
The Ball ISN'T the TARGET!

Confusing drill. Cowen has toe of club down with forearm rotation when it reaches the ball/tree. Russ and others bury the toe into the tree.
This is all wrong. Momentum is deployed downwards 2 feet behind you. The stump would be on your toe line while you hammer down.
