Absolutely true, although I understand why Heathers isn’t on here as it has never been on Broadway (which is a shame btw)
I haven’t seen The whole list yet, but I’m sure there are numbers from many flop Broadway musicals that could easily make this list: the opening number from the 59 musical Juno (based on an Irish play Juno and the Paycock), yellow Drum and others from The Grass Harp, I Never Has Seen Snow, Gonna Leave Off Wearin my Shoes, or A Sleepin Bee, all from House of Flowers. Maman from Matta Hari. And even once your musical is picked, I would have chosen Mama Look Sharp over Sit Down, John. I should make my own list including flops. And Eve Was Weak from the Broadway flop Carrie (4 performances) is a must. So is I Want More from the Lestat musical. Let me know what you guys think of all these songs as all should be on youtube!

I sang along to nearly every song on this list and watched the entire thing! But, I'm so surprised "I'm Here" from The Color Purple is at 53! This song gives me goosebumps, especially with Cynthia Erivo's vocals. Also I would've picked "Falling Slowly" from Once.

I think one song that is missing from this list and I was kinda disappointed to not see it is As If We Never Said Goodbye from Sunset Boulevard... that is an amazing song and an amazing role for the person who plays Norma, it's also become a standard of musical theatre songs
I've missed "A Gentlemen's Guide To Love And Murder" in this list. I believe "I've Decided To Marry You" to top some of this songs. Otherwise, Anything Goes is definitely in my Top 10. But your no.1 pick is right on point.
I was in a musical play of Peter Pan as Tiger Lily at my old school in Village Glenn. For another musical I did there, I was on TV. No kidding, I was on TV while singing
I went to see Phantom of the Opera. It was amazing. The singing, the way the candles just appeared out of the smoke and also the smoke looked like water
I did as well when it came to Jacksonville a few years ago. 😌It was incredible.😌
I saw it and it was awesome! Their Carlotta was meh, their Christine was decent except for when she sang Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again, their Phantom and Raoul were pretty cool, and their Meg was amazing

I loved listening to all of these - old and new - Broadway hits! I was wondering when you'd mentioned Les Miserables (there are so many) so glad to see they were saved for last! Tough to choose because we have so many beautiful, singable, memorable Broadway songs!

Some that you missed: "Go Home with Bonnie Jean" from Brigadoon. "We Need a Little Christmas" from Mame. "Time Warp" from Rocky Horror. "Impossible" from Cinderella. "Any Dream Will Do" from Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. "The Telephone Hour" from Bye Bye Birdie. "Another Op'nin Another Show" from Kiss Me Kate. And I don't think I'd have included "Mamma Mia" in this list, it's a great song, but it wasn't written for the show. If you include that, then you have to open your list to all the jukebox musicals, and I think this should be kept to those songs written for the stage.
As far as I can tell, Mamma Mia is the only jukebox musical on this list, which is interesting given the size of the subgenre. There have been plenty of hit Bio-musicals (Beautiful, Jersey Boys, MJ) and several which used pre-existing pop hits to tell an original story (Rock of Ages, Moulin Rouge, & Juliet) and you could form a new Top 100 from these...
Lots of GREAT suggestions from musicals that have stood the test of time and are still standards like 50 years later, that might have been chosen over some that have only been around 5-10 years. 🤷🏻♂️

You're on the mark with most, and I could quibble with many, but you were really off the mark with 1776. "Sit Down John" is fun and sets the tone for much of the show, but "Is Anybody There" is by far the best song in the show. In Adam's darkest moment, he sings his vision for America. "I see fireworks!" Is inspiring.

I truly wish your programs had been available while I was teaching MUSIC APPRECIATION, to high schoolers!!! These would have been fantastic...Thank God for movie musicals...through them I was able to introduce them...to the broader world of music it offers. I am also glad we had concert versions of musicals, too!! Sometimes during Les Miserables there were tears. At the end of the school year, these tears told me how far they had come in their knowledge of music....CLASSICAL thru POPULAR!!!

Just rewatched it. I think it's fitting that I saw the shows with the top 5 this year. (les Miserables last January, Wicked twice in April, rent in August, Phantom and Hamilton in November in London).
I appreciate that little shout out to “As Long As You’re Mine”, I love it but it seems like one of the most underrated Wicked songs.
I’d say the most underrated Wicked song is No Good Deed, girl has to belt her fricken heart out, and you get to see her briefly, accept what everyone assumed of her.
I would have liked to see Nine, Mame, Bye Bye Birdie, Wildcat, and Brigadoon added to this list.

On the stage, not in that train wreck of a movie the only saving grace of which was to humiliate the Oscar-grubbing Taylor Swift.

1. FEELING GOOD, from The Roar of the Greasepaint, The Smell of the Crowd. It has become almost ubiquitous, covered by countless artists, most notably Michael Bublé, and even in commercials. Major oversight.
2. Maybe This Time was not used in the original Broadway production; it was only used in the movie. The song "Cabaret" I believe would have been the better choice.
3. Other choices are headscratchers in that you chose a rather obscure song (What Do the Simple Folk Do from Camelot rather than the standard If Ever I Would Leave You; Vanilla Ice Cream from She Loves Me rather than the better-known Will He Like Me, or the title song).
4. Also surprising that you chose the mostly unknown All the Wasted Time from PARADE over the rousing, anthemic opening AND closing ensemble number The Old Red Hills of Home.
5. From Oliver! You Gotta Pick a Pocket or Two is your selection as the best that score has to offer?? The spectacular Who Will Buy, the standard As Long as He Needs Me, CONSIDER YOURSELF??
IMO these are truly gross oversights/omissions.
The top 100 of all time, but nothing by Harold Arlen ("Come Rain or Come Shine," "A Sleepin' Bee," "Over the Rainbow," etc), Burton Lane ("Old Devil Moon," "On a Clear Day You Can See Forever," etc), or Kurt Weill ("Mack the Knife," "Speak Low," "Saga of Jenny," etc). Only one song by Jerome Kern, Rodgers & Hart, Irving Berlin or Cole Porter, but two by Elton John and William Finn and four by Alan Menken. How about "I"ll Never Fall In Love Again' from PROMISES, PROMISES, or "Lazy Afternoon" from THE GOLDEN APPLE, or 'Here's That Rainy Day' from the admittedly obscure CARNIVAL IN FLANDERS, or "Stranger in Paradise" from KISMET.
The ad version of "Feeling Good" makes me want to puke!

@43:27 - Circle of Life. I had the opportunity to attend the Tony Awards that year. During a commercial break, "Rafiki" was escorted onstage and the audience started cheering. Then we came back from the break and the audience cheered for the entire number. It was fabulous!
While I may not agree with your rankings, you have chosen some top picks.That said, I kept waiting for, "And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going" from Dreamgirls, which is a song that's too great to have been overlooked!

"Summertime" actually was on the list - it was number 56. But I'm kinda surprised that "Singin' in the Rain" didn't make the list - you'd think it would!

Personally, I love "You Will Be Found" from Dear Evan Hansen, and "Bui Doi" from Miss Saigon. Both are emotional and extremely powerful.

Sunday is the most beautiful song ever written for the theatre. May not be the best overall, but it works so well, as seen from the original production and the tribute performed in Times Square a few days after Sondheim passed.
My pick for Number one would have been Phantom of the opera or Point of No return. They are both very good songs and the notes on both ends are very good and complimentary to the other part. But a musical you missed was Love Never Dies and unpopular opinion but I love Love Never Dies two of my favorite songs from it are Devil take the Hindmost and the Finale. Ramin and Sierra are the best Phantom and Christine. My second pick would have been Bring Him Home from Les Miserables

The second time I saw it in Toronto I was front row and singing along to Me and the Sky and the actress noticed, so she used it and kept looking at me as she performed. What an experience! ❣

I can think of several others. Lily’s Eyes from The Secret Garden. That Old Devil Moon from Finian’s Rainbow. The Heather on the Hill from Brigadoon. And if you consider a show that never made it to Broadway. Meadowlark from The Baker’s Wife.

This list most definitely needs a sequel or two or three or 200.
I sincerely cannot believe more Book of Mormon songs aren't on this list. 'Hello' was maybe the 4th best song of the show. If anything, 'I Believe, 'Sal Tlay Ka Siti', or 'All American Prophet' should have taken its place.
