Currently, it's difficult to compete with Merkato prices, which are set under invoicing, while e-commerce operators must adhere to halal regulations and face constant scrutiny. Operating legally in Ethiopia will lead to higher prices, as a 15% VAT and additional taxes need to be applied. Consumers will compare online prices with physical store prices and often find the same product at a lower cost, making it challenging to attract customers to online platforms. the restrictive currency regulations and tax burden make it challenging for e-commerce to thrive in Ethiopia. Unless there are significant changes in the import rules and currency policies, it remains a difficult environment for e-commerce businesses to succeed.same thing for payment platforms. amazon comes first than Uber. e-commerce suppose to come to Ethiopia first than ride hilling it is fundamental issue. amazon has a competitive advantage over Walmart just reducing cost because they do not have high showroom cost.

Amazing episode for what its worth I recently bought a tire online from GiantCart and they delivered it to my office so definitely think e-commerce is at least showing some progress. I thought I would just throw in my two cents
After months I clicked on Gugut because I felt a bit disconnected with the guests lately but today I did, Plus it was the only way I discovered the transition from Qefira to HahuZon, (No other way I would have noticed this quick) And qefira was just such a valuable site that I guess couldn't make enough profit. Anyways This is actually before I watched the video, and I will edit after doing so.

This is really a good discussion. However, with out a stable power grid and internet connection, e-commerce in Ethiopia will never take off.
