    First, thanks for your dedication! It's worth stating that this guy is 6'2" 245 lbs, as he said in one of his replies. That's getting near the weight limit for this kayak. It is much more stable for a shorter and lighter person to stand in , and doesn't roll over as easily.

      Thanks for the comment! Also, I could of went a little slower when putting myself off balance. I've only been in the water off this yak during the filming of this video.

      @@t.j.outdoors3961 it's definitely good to do a roll test though. I've been meaning to roll over in mine just to see what the "tipping point" is, but then I get out on the water and don't feel like getting wet. I'm 5'7 160 and it's been pretty hard to tip over so far compared to others kayaks I've been in.

      Personally I think adding a bunch of stuff to a yak is wrong. To me, a kayak is supposed to be light, portable, and quick to set up. I've never been interested in needing to spend 15-20 minutes assembling my kayak before I launch, or having a trailer. I would just get a boat before I did all that.

  • @nomaderic

    I take mine down miles of river, pretty stable for being a budget kayak. The only time I've ever flipped is from modding a seat up too high and becoming somewhat unstable (on a fast moving river) other than that very stable. I even sit sideways on it and fish sometimes.

    • @t.j.outdoors3961
      @t.j.outdoors3961  5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      The only time I have ever flipped mine was in the making of these videos! Are they as stable as a $1000 kayak? No. But you can buy 2 more and take your family or buddies with you for that price and everyone have a great time.

    Seeing you take a splash was worth a like and subscribe! Good job getting back in the kayak. I've had adventures in kayaks and could have drowned once and eaten by a nest of gators another time. I'm not sure I want to try my luck again at 74. Very best wishes.

    Thank you very much for the demo and for not using a self-mounted camera so we can actually see what the boat is doing. I'm 6-4, 245 and this is my #1 concern. Having watched that boat while you were standing, I can also definitely say no thank you to that one :) Looks like I'll be spending a little more money!

    I just bought one of these. Without any research. This tells me a lot. Thank you. ( I've been using an 8 foot sit in pelican, this will be a vacation in comparison. Lol.
    Also I am only about 160 lbs. So I bet I will love this thing. It's not my dream kayak for sure, that's a liquidlogic 800 dollar piece of plastic. But I could definitely use this for a couple years, after using that pos sit in pelican for 2 years.

    Ask the guy to fall in the water for you... he does it twice. LOL that's dedication to your channel. THANKS a thousand times!
    These videos have showed me what I suspected from seeing the two different hull designs. The Teton hull sits higher out of the water and with the seat being higher as well, this has to contribute to it not being quite as stable as the the Tamarack.
    How did your new dry storage hatch hold up on ghee Teton?

    • @t.j.outdoors3961
      @t.j.outdoors3961  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I went in more then once that day haha! There is at least one more video shot this day that I am going to post. And anything to try and help everyone else out. I try my hardest to answer any questions people have, and try to improve what I am doing on my channel through suggestions from my comment section. I'm always looking for new things to make videos on!
      I would say you are right about the ride height contributing to its stability issues. New hatches worked great, I didnt have any water to drain out I believe.
      Thanks for the comments!

      These style kayaks are meant for still and slow moving water. I've gotten mine into some swifter stuff before but I wouldn't recommend it. Sit in are better for swift water purposes.

    I've got that model Tamarack. I like the new hatches. My son will like this video as he likes to stand up to cast. And he weighs only 130lbs. I also have a 10SS. It measures 9ft and 10inches. For two years I bought the invasive species permit for it until I took a tape measure to it. 10ft is the point for that here in Oregon. As I'm getting a little heavy, 212lbs, This past spring I got a good deal on the Phoenix 10.4" 300lbs capacity and very stable. A little wide and fat in the middle. Like me.

    • @t.j.outdoors3961
      @t.j.outdoors3961  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      From what i am told, the smaller you are, the easier standing is. I have gotten a little more comfortable with it, but its not something i do very often. I do like the hatches on thr newer tamaracks as well. Thanks for the comment!

      @@t.j.outdoors3961 I was really thinking of getting the Teton mainly for pond fishing and then in the fall a lot of times the beaches (ocean) are flat water. But after seeing how easily it tipped I don't know. Definitely like the seat on that yak too.

    • @t.j.outdoors3961
      @t.j.outdoors3961  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I may do another round of stability tests in it. I feel like I did a really poor job showing it off in that regard. I haven't once felt like I was going to tip over in normal operation. I am going to get it out below a local dam tailwater this next week. That may be a better example for you, I will be floating a pretty exciting stretch of water that I have done before in my other kayak a few times. Hopefully hook into a big fish and put it through the ringer.

    Im a 13 year old kid 5'5 and 120 pound but growing and I'm looking for a good kayak to get into kayak fishing in lakes where I live. I also fish for stripers at least 75 days every summer and was looking for a little something to get me off the beach. Would this kayak work for that, I've seen reviews that say it's cheap plastic that scratches and I can't bring it in chop.

    • @t.j.outdoors3961
      @t.j.outdoors3961  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ive beat and banged mine a lot at this point. The hull is made of a good plastic that takes a beating. I also have a teton(upgraded tamarack) that fell off my roof rack at 70 mph on the interstate and survived with just scratches. Hull is durable! I would be concerned about bringing it in over some waves though. I have had it out in the gulf a few times, but only on flat water days. But not many lightweight 10' kayaks do well with that condition. It is not a fun paddle against the wind and tide, but again, not many kayaks are.

      I hate to say that what works for me will definitely work for you. I'm bigger and stronger than your average guy, so what's easier for me may not be so easy for the average guy. May need to set it down for a minute to rest, but it should be able to. The furthest I have carried it was about 1000 feet from my vehicle down an embankment by a bridge to launch. I would think about a cart if I was carrying it that far consistently. Especially if you are planning to carry a lot of gear. 1 trip with kayak loaded on a cart with all your gear, is going to be a lot faster than 2 trips without it.

I haven't been in any expensive kayaks so I don't know if they would do better or not. I would suggest taking swimming classes and becoming a better swimmer first if you want to get into kayaking. The Ores are very easy to put together, the pump worked beautifully. the seats are a bit hard to sit in after a while (I recommend sitting on the floor). after reading the reviews I was very scared it'd get a hole in it, the material is very strong and durable. The Air valve may need a small Phillips head screwdriver to adjust, other than that, it's well worth the money!(update)I've gone Kayaking in 3 Lakes and 2 rivers totaling about 40 miles. the kayak had two holes and they patched easily and no other problems can't wait for kayaking season this year!

      @@t.j.outdoors3961 Good enough! I have an Old Town Topwater 120 on the way. I'll be able to do backflips on it if I ever learn how to do backflips but I'm kinda short and kinda overweight so I doubt that'll happen ever.

      Eh, I've had my cooler, rods, and some other gear on it and and stood up just fine. I wouldn't do it in wake or swift current, but its okay in calmer water.

      I'm going to be this tall no matter what kayak I am on. Nothing I can do about that.

      @@t.j.outdoors3961 yes but a wider kayak will be much more stable

    • @t.j.outdoors3961
      @t.j.outdoors3961  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I mean, yeah. But anyone is going to be more stable in a wider kayak. Not just a tall person. I don't think there is a much more stable kayak out there on the market for the price. I'm not saying these are the best kayaks out there. But if all you need is something light, cheap, going to keep you floating, is easy to throw on a roof rack with 1 person, and durable, these are definitely worth a look.

    My first time Kayaking and this Kayak held strong. th-cam.com/users/postUgkx4k5UrhC3v_Y4hIEaXLGvHcN5a5aBmZNB The water got pretty rough as a speed boat zipped by me, and the Kayak withstood it (I expected to be capsized).
