The fact that the homecoming game is Bama makes perfect sense to me. It ensures that the stadium will be packed, and if we get it as a night game even better. The game is Oct 25, the toughest looking games so far is going to be Mizzou and LSU on the road prior to this one. That opening game against Va Tech could be a wrench in the cogs, hard to call opening games especially with the incoming team. With the SEC schedule i think it is manageable. Making Bama the homecoming game is throwing down the gauntlet, most teams use a lower tier team for that game, if nothing else it shows the confidence they have in this roster and their coaches. Let's just hope they live up to it. The last time SC beat Alabama was when Spurrier was coach and Garcia was the QB. Came close last year, but close isn't good enough

Maybe you draft Jeremiah Smith 1st right now, because LaNorris is still developing at the toughest position in all of football. But in 1-2 years, IF LaNorris continues to improve in the passing game, you pick him over Smith because QB is definitely the most important player on the field and Smith never makes an impact unless he has someone who can throw him the "damn ball" (to quote Keyshawn). An incredibly mobile QB with a great arm will have the NFL salivating. Of course the NFL has broken other similar talents...just ask RG3.

But in retrospect, as entertaining as it was, I did think Beamer embarrassed himself a little (or a lot) with how wildly he overreacted to to Bielema's "gesture." Even the way Beamer referred to it, you would have thought Bielema walked up to him and flipped him off. But even I have inadvertently been on the receiving end of Beamer's wrath. After the 2023 opener where we got clobbered by North Carolina giving up 9 sacks with Spencer running for his life the whole game, I commented on GamecocksOnline that if our O-line plays like that against Georgia we'll give up 90 sacks. So the next presser Beamer is all hot under the collar defending the O-Line and actually says "someone online said we'll give up 90 sacks against Georgia!" I could hardly believe my ears. Obviously it was a bit of an exaggeration, Coach. On one hand you'd think Beamer just latches onto anything he can for motivation, but on the other hand a big reason he's a winner is that he's a very sore loser. ;)
