I have 2 ownroot Bliss planted this year and it is definitely one of my most healthy and with the biggest blooms in my garden. Seeing how my 2 healthiest roses are Bliss and Earth Angel, I would love to find more Kordes roses with the English rose form to add to my collection. Do you have any suggestions. I am located in the PNW 8b. Thanks!
That is an interesting comparison. I have found that even the same roses from different vendors grow completely different. I don't have a lot of duplicate roses, and when I do they are usually ordered in pairs from the same vendor. I have 3 Lady of Shalott (1 DA ownroot/bareroot, 1 DA ownroot.2 qt, 1 Antique Rose Emporium ownroot/2 gallon), the DA bareroot was set back a bit by being moved this year, the ARE one was just planted this year and is already caught up to the DA 2 qt planted last year. The other I have is Hot Cocoa, one from Heirloom planted 2 years ago and 1 from High Country Roses planted this year, both own root. Heirloom's was moved this year so it fell a bit behind, but the one from HCR is already bigger than than the other one was last year. I ordered my Bliss Parfuma from Chamblee's this year, planted 4/21 and it is currently 4 ft tall.
I love the crape myrtles! I have to say my best fastest growing rose that I have is my ownroot Olivia I got from Chamblees. Im pretty suprised as I got them to test to see how really healthy they are and haven't done anything to them. My grafted ones haven't grown as much in comparison. im in zone 9a Florida.Fun video to see the differences
Bliss Perfuma is so beautiful!!🥰 I have ownroot Bliss Perfuma and she is doing well! I got her from Chamblee’s Rose Nursery. I planted A Shropshire Lad rose in March end which is on Multiflora root stock, but not blooming well. The growth is also not much.
@@TheRoseGeek Hi Kim, I am in zone 7a( Connecticut). I have only one Bliss Perfuma which is ownroot. The grafted rose I was talking about is A Shropshire Lad which is on Multiflora root stock. I am not sure whether these two roses can be compared as they are not the same rose.
I'm so new to roses, how on earth do I know what root stock the rose I am purchasing has? I mean I know the rose I got from Heirloom roses is own root, but what about any rose I buy locally? I'm assuming (now) that even if they have they same name as a rose from Heirloom, they aren't own root, but grafted but I have no idea what root stock! Thanks so much for all this info!
Hi! Great question! Many growers are trying to move to own root but some varieties can't be grown on their own roots. If you are at your local nursery and you look inside the rose and see a graft union, assume it is grafted on Dr. Huey. Dr. Huey is the most predominant root stock used in the United States. I am now thinking about the plastic cans used by nurseries for quick identification for you: Concerning David Austin Roses (green square can), if you look at the website and see a variety has only been produced with own root, you can assume that the growers have adhered to that and only produced for the nurseries on own root. Concerning Bloomables by Star Roses and Plants (grey can with white logo), most are going to be own root. Concerning True Bloom Roses (Altman nursery)(grey can with a blue banner and pink rose), most, if not all will be own root. Concerning misc roses in black cans, check these closely for graft. Most will be grafted on Dr. Huey. I hope this helps!
I was wondering why you were adding BP from different vendors early this year. U love Bliss Parfuma! I purchased three from HCR last winter. Two are 28" tall and the other one is 14" in height. Your crape mrtyles are amazing. I bought 4 PW Center Stage Corals in little band pots last January. I thought I killed them. In April I potted theme up (2 in 2 gallons and 2 in 1 gallons.) One has bloomed for me. There will be moved up to 3 gallon pots this week. I am babying them. Their eventual home will be in a steep slope. Zone 10a
Wished I would have known this earlier before I bought my favorite rose which is grafted.
omg gorgeous!!!! Your property is popping!
Last fall you did a video on three own-root DA roses. Just wondering on how they are compared to the grafted DA's from the spring.

@@TheRoseGeek Chamblee still has Bliss in 3 gallon. All of the roses I have bought from them have had excellent growth.
I’ll have to check the tag for my Bliss. I never even thought about what kind of root it was on. Very interesting!
And also one of my faves 💕

I love Chamblees Nursery. Their potted roses or own root always thrive. My own root always perform better.
@@TheRoseGeek I forgot to mention it sorry. Im zone 9a Fl I'll update my comment.

Mine grow horizontally than grow up. I love BP, I want another rose has the same or similar pattern, but in different color.
