Fabric Shopping In London On GoldHawk RD

A couple of weeks ago I visited London and while I was out there, I decided I wanted to go fabric shopping. I found out Goldhawk Rd was the main street to shop fabrics and I felt excited to go there. After all London is one of the biggest fashion capitals of the world. So why not see how the Local London designers shop for fabrics.

For trimmings etc - you need to look for a haberdashery store. There is Kleins in 5 Noel St, Soho, MacCulloch & Wallis Ltd in 25-26 Poland St, W1 or Frankls a huge wholesale place in Bethnal Green. Non trade customers can buy, cash only :)

For trimmings also called 'Haberdashery shop'. Go to Portobello Road. There's a haberdasher shop behind Oxford street (Bond st end), fabric shop on Church St at Edgware Road and sell accesories. Acessories and fabrics shops in markets such as Brixton, Peckham, Tooting Broadway etc.

When you next visit the uk travel out of London to Birmingham rag market. Tuesday is the best day. Shops nearby also sell fabric. London prices are paying for London rents and wages.

Hey I'm from London and I go to Walthamstow market to get trimmings. There's about 3 stores which solely sell trimmings :)

I can't believe nobody mentioned Berwick Street in soho. It's a little pricey but they have everything. Wasn't too far from where you were staying Either

there are many hubs for fabric. If you want haberdashery Liverpool street has high end trims, more affordable places include Brixton and Lewisham that have shops near their markets.

There are several pretty cool ‘trimmings’ stores, although they are often listed as haberdashery stores. Some of the major ones are McCulloch & Wallis on Poland Street, just off Oxford Street in W1. They have several floors of stuff. Then there is VW Rouleaux in Marylebone, W1. Also, there is New Trimmings in Great Titchfield St, W1. There is Kleins in D’Arblay Street, W1. Plus, Liberties have both trimmings and loads of fabric. Fabians Haberdashery and Trimmings in Whitechapel, E1. London Trimmings Wholesale in Tottenham, N15 or a massive wholeseller on Bethnal Green Road that takes cash only. Normal shop front but cavernous old warehouse to the back. Besides Godlhawk Road, there are Borovick Fabrics & other fabric shops opposite in Berwick St, Soho, W1 where is also a street market. Borovick is the go-to for many theatre costume designers.

lovely! I can't wait to see what you do with that fabric. BTW, when you make multiples of the same dresses, how do you buy the fabric? by the role? do you get them from a shop or online?

If you know the dresses that you made are going to sell, you buy multiple yardage especially if it's a print because they might run out if you buy from a store. I personally don't shop fabrics online because I like to handpick my fabric quality for my work.
