Thanks for the video and especially on the spinning threaded insert as I have the same problem removing the skid plate. Unfortunately on mine, I don't have enough space to grab the insert with needle nose vice grips. Any other advice on on getting that bolt off?
But first, spray some wd40, then tighten it a little bit to break the rust bond, then loosen. Jam a flat blade screw driver in there and twist. Try to get the blade under the head of the insert. Wire brush the bolt threads clean, apply grease to keep the water out that will cause it to rust up and bust the insert loose next time.
@@rickpaulos thanks for the reply but mine was loose and I ended up bending the skid plate just enough to put some friction on it and eventually was able to get a pointed vise grip on it. That took me a few days to get it off
What year is this car? Another youtube vid shows the drain plug at 17mm vs yours at 19mm. Does every year have that guard in the way? Another youtube vid shows the drain plug is accessible.
There were a couple of different engines offered in the bug. I know that there was a normal gas version, a turbo version, and also a diesel version. You have to check and see which one you have.

One way I’ve seen for getting around the part blocking the drain bolt is to use aluminum foil to make a drain path from the bolt.
