I must say getting the radio to slide back in was a PITA! Spent over an hour fussing around with the connector until the radio could just barely slide back. Also getting that glovebox back up was a huge pain, probably because of the kneww airbag being belt into the assembly.
Thanks for sharing! I’m going to attempt this in the near future. Would you say it’s held up fairly well no issues with volume or any other MMI controls?
@@eurospekgarage1833 Good to hear! I was also reading sometimes you have to enable AUX? did you have to do that all. My understanding is you need some sort of dongle or access to VCDS to do so which I don't have at the moment.
@@sayeedrehan the only reason you need to enable AUX is if you want to connect your audio directly to the CarPlay box. @@AudiC7 so it depends how you are listening to your music. You have two options: connect to “media” which is fine by connecting a disconnected headphone jack into the mmi port under the arm rest, and regular playback mode. In regular playback mode, the factory equalizer is in effect. In “media” mode with the headphone jack connected, that is where the CarPlay unit equalizer is in effect. I hope that helps. Could you do a video guide on how to set it up for the non-car play use, as in show what settings should be enabled to browse the internet, use TH-cam and Netflix and inform of the best way to now receive calls as I'm told its better to receive calls on existing MMI bluetooth connection as doing it through the new screen set up seems to sound (to the other person) that you're under water. Is it better to connect via bluetooth and how to get the screen to connect automatically or is it best to connect via usb to create a wifi connection using your (for example) iPhone's hotspot function? The CarPlay side of it seems easy to understand. All videos show that side of it but don't show those who struggle with the tech side, what settings to enable to be able to use the new MMI touchscreen to its full potential. Should apps be downloaded from the google play store because (as you will know, but others may not) when you use the car play option, it doesn't transfer all apps from your phone to the screen due to the whole safety aspect of companies not (understandably) wanting people to be able to watch videos whilst driving, despite most people wanting to be able to do such things when parked up / stationary. I hope this finds you in good understanding as I just couldn't see any videos where this sort of thing is covered in these MMI upgrade videos. Kind regards
Hey, have you tried the airplay function? I installed mine using your video and everything works but when I airplay I dont have any volume. Been trying to find information regarding audio for airplay and not finding anything...
Thanks for watching and glad my video helped with the install. Regarding AirPlay, one thing to consider is getting the AMI cable with an AUX connection in the center console that just sits there not connected to anything. I will also say that regarding AirPlay, the video and audio delay is quite substantial, so I never bothered with it. Hope that helps
For this install you'll need a T20 torx bit to remove the glove box, some trim removal tools to pull the climate control panel, a knife if drill to cut a slot in the top of the glove box to feed to USB cable, and everything else comes in the kit. Good luck and let me know if you have any questions!
Not a problem! Make sure your phone is connected to the MMI bluetooth - not the CarPlay unit bluetooth. If you want the CarPlay unit to be connected to your phone you will have to buy an aux MMI adapted for the center console. Let me know if that works!

The CarPlay unit automatically powers on when the MMI is on. CarPlay is activated without having to toggle anything. The unit will automatically disengage when the car is in reverse so you can see your cameras. And then it will reengage when you’re moving forward again.
That’s because you disconnected the “passenger airbag off” light. That’s okay, you’ll need to clear the code with VCDS or OBD11 and it will go away. As long as that passenger airbag light is actually plugged in
