"I'm old!" That will now and forever be my character's battle cry,

I stopped watching this yesterday. Turning it back on today the video picked up at: 'O God, we're in another battle. Let's get in here. "I'm old." Nothing like a Hankerin battle cry.

Your content is second to none! I have used a lot of this stuff, the dark fantasy, the moral imperative etc, to inform my own campaign design. As a beginner, it has taken my rudimentary understanding of room / game / campaign design to the next level! Thank you, sir!

Such a great idea and great kick down the door campaign! I have some friends that wanna play DND and never played and I was thinking of how to make a quick basic well rounded dungeon that forces them to experience all of DND in one night and this setup is perfect. Im gonna use this idea to DM them thank you keep up the great videos!

Man I tell you. I stumbled upon one of your videos the other day and it was an instant subscribe. You have great content. This is some choice stuff. This so far has to be my favorite. I just recently got a group together to start playing again. It has been some years since playing and getting back into this has taken some homework. Your content is very helpful with ideas and the way you present them is great and entertaining. As a DM in his early 40s getting back into D & D and catching up with 5th edition, I need some good ideas and advice that your channel is providing. I appreciate the humor as well. Also, your appreciation for Dwarves is well noted. They are the greatest race in the history of fantasy. Well, good on ya. Cheers.

That one uncharacteristically exhibited less the rings of insanity (my domain) and some evidence of whimsical proficiency. Regardless, it is clear that 'Lizardmen never last' but they kick your ass in the first Icewind Dale encounter.

Cool terrain, presentation, great all around.
...by the way, I too have a trademark beer stein, and I know it must seem very coincidental but I SWEAR it's coincidence! I only recently found your channel and did not mean to copy your shtick. Anyway, I'm a new subscriber for sure - I most enjoy your episodes that focus on how to run specific encounters.

1:55 Woah...People play Palladium? The group I used in high school during the 80s borrowed from that book in order to modify AD&D...I actually have the black book with the red lettering since then, like 1985 or something. Anyway...
2:55 What binds up all the Room Designs altogether? What is the common thread you ask? Well listen up: "It's the timer, the treat and the threat. It's the triple t's!" Timer = what makes the characters move or do something.
5:05 The timer in this lizard man thingamabob is the flood, which prevents them from going back. You use this to keep them from fucking around doing boring stuff.
5:35 A treat might be a plant or some bush or something. The people love it.
6:14 The Lizard Men, the Green Fiend, a Skeleton and 2 Rat Packs...Oh and maybe the Gelatinous Cube if they wander to the "back there" part for some reason that has noting to do with the story. It just lives there, and it is pissed they are eating the bushes in his garden. These are the threats in the triple t trifecta of ivan the terrible....
7:20 You don't want to confuse the players with a lot of gobbledygook that makes them look up rules and what not. That would suck. Instead, make them do attacks and handle situations because that is more fun. You ask "What are the situations?" Well they open the door and they say "Oh crap, there's a Lizard Man!" If they dawdle, threaten to flood them, or maybe just dock their pay.
9:24 YAY! Smart monsters who run away and get the others!
10:08 Freaky statue situation...Skeleton rages on character's face, but it's like totally the PC in the room...Freakshow badazz...
11:10 Now we have a spike trap situation in aisle 6...that could suck.
12:00 Oh great, now we are in a Gelatinous Cube room death trap situation...
12:39 And now the crazy badass boss Green Fiend situation...plus a developing rat pack situation...
13:43 Pin puzzle exit troll situation...
14:19 To make some depth to it, be prepared for history check details so it creates some mysterious raison d'etre...That's French for "weird nerd guy who knows stuff about whyyyyyyyyyyyyy."
17:04 Aw ya...The bard lays down the knowledge...

Great video as always. Glad to see you ditched that 2d stuff. You gave me a bit of a scare with that video. Of course, this is the way to go, when you've already entered the CraftGame. I hope your players are digging the new setups, enough to overcome the playablility issues, 3d bring along. Though it's hard for me to comprehend, anyone preferring a glasstable over this;-)

  • @derthknight45

    Thac0 is easy. for example:
    1st lvl fighter vs goblin:
1st lvl characters have a Thac0 of 20 and the goblin has an AC of 10
So: 20-10=10 so The fighter would have to roll a ten or better to hit the goblin

So when you do campaigns, like this one, do you stick the players in initiative from the get and they play in combat order orrrrrrr? This is an in general question

    • @Runehammer1
      @Runehammer1  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

sure, or roll each time, or just go clockwise... every night is different but clockwise is probabaly my favorite

  • @dkbibi

I get that it would be too complicated for what its worth to hide parts of undiscovered zones of the dungeon/encounter but do you actually put the figures in advance also or do you only wait for when they are in PCs line of sight?

Makes sense! Yesterday I tried doing the 2.6D wood/brick tile. Wasn't as nice as yours. I think its because the spacing between each wood stick was not even. I though it would make it look more old and scrappy but... Well actually it did look scrappy lol
